Holding the belief/idea that it's OK to celebrate someone's suffering and dying of cancer (or other diseases) if you consider them trash human beings is in itself despicable. So even if Rhys was not celebrating in this case (we know he is, he's just lying), he could be celebrating someone else in the future. That in itself deserves the scorn. At the very least, keep it to yourself. But seriously, there's no two ways about this: "Oh this TERF is dying of cancer? I think it's fine to celebrate it" is pretty clear cut.

it will depend on the nature of the conduct as well as the university itself. the only way i can see this tweet being troublesome for him is if one or more of his students feel personally uncomfortable with him as a teacher . if a student had a terminal illness and disagreed with him on matters of sex/gender, i'd be very understanding of that student being deeply uncomfortable in the classroom with a freak who would celebrate their death.

i dont think this is really a good idea. sure, the comments are gross, but as leiter rightly points out, they're none of the university's business. additionally, moves like these will only serve to make him look like more of a victim. a better show of solidarity would be for all those profs to join the forum and post in this thread making fun of him, exercising their contractually protected extramural speech here themselves.
