Assuming that actually happened and ignoring the issues other people have raised, that sounds incredibly poorly thought out and impulsive. Don't most people have personal data on their computers? Various internet accounts logged in with the passwords saved? Email client set up to download email? And he just handed that computer over to a complete stranger to keep?
Maybe I'm just paranoid about computer security, but I won't use a computer whose chain of custody goes through some random person. Corporations generally won't do broad-scale fuckery because they'll get caught, but that doesn't hold with some random who can pretty easily just give you a laptop with a physical keylogger installed and then peek into all your accounts later.
