I dunno, maybe it's because i've watched them for years, but when it comes to pure voice acting i think they do a pretty good job and voice their respective characters well.

The only one I don't like is the Goku actor. Being soft spoken & high pitched is fine for Gohan, but not for Goku.

They're profiting off a license they don't own. I mean, they even removed the non-profit part of their opening disclaimer. I know people like to say abridgers should get paid for their work but there's only so much they can make hiding behind fair use. You can make an argument their editing, additional animations, voice overs, and changes to the plot warrant some kind of ownership but it doesn't change the fact everything else they're using is another person's property. TFS can bitch about where the fair use is all they want, they're still making money off something they don't own.

Enough about that, though. I'm happy to see cancel culture is further being cancelled with every passing controversy. First Chapelle, then projared, now this, and that one poor bastard's suicide. Gonna take a while but we're getting there.

I hope Vic gets to voice Broly more in the future. Can't imagine him voiced by anyone else and I can't really stand the sub of DBZ. Hope whoever Toei chooses to dub DBS when all this blows over doesn't have their head up their ass. Shit is bound to change hands.

If it were just a Patreon and no merch then I wouldn't care about that or see a problem with it, but since there is merch you do have a point.

But do they care if a dub actor comes back to voice a character they voiced previously? That's what I was referring to. Outside of just wanting things to stay consistent, I don't think they're super invested in that regard,

The actor who plays a character role is part of the marketing, that's the important part. I would still prefer Schemmel over the previous actors who played Goku if we could turn back the clock and undo all of this.

Just sounds like complete bullshit to take some blame away from Funimation. If a skit of He Man saying gay shit made by Schemmel is still being cited to this day than certainly audio leaks saying faggot and the sacred ointments thing from all the way back in 2002 would've cropped up a couple of times over the years and been used for those old youtube poop videos as jokes or have been brought up during a Q&A during a con or something. At no point in the 17 years since people claim they leaked has anyone ever brought these up. They were stored in Funimations servers all these years because someone thought they were funny and then an insider leaked them out just a few days ago.

If no VA ends up tweeting about the leaks it 100% proves Funi does have control over their "contractor's" social media activity. There is absolutely no way all of those dumbshits would be able to keep their mouths shut about this without being explicitly warned to by their employer.

Wasn't it already implied that Funimation has control, since Monica sent emails begging to be able to respond to the controversy?

I've heard that story from him (or at least an account of him speaking of it), but I think a substantial part of his commitment has to do with him wanting to do the role despite how much it slaughters his vocal cords. It was definitely the case when the Broly movie broke records in anime movie history, but even before that, it's hard to imagine that Sabat wasn't trying to voice half of Dragon Ball on his own.



If he was trying to impress a fujo, he deserves to get pound metoo'd on that alone.

Vic comes off as someone who both really just loves voice acting, and wants to be helpful. He mentions in his deposition with his previous careers that he quit simply because they weren't what he wanted in a career. He also mentions in cons that he never planned on a VA career either (I think he preferred theater/live action originally) but despite that he's never moved on from it. That says he really loves his job. Also, he mentions many times that he just asks 'what role do you need?' and anything they need, he happily does. Thus, while the vocal cords are a painful thing, and he laughs about him going to the directors each time with "HE'S DEAD THIS TIME FOR REAL, RIGHT?" and his dawning horror when he realizes he needed to voice Broly in the games too, I think he was happy to help.

Over the years, though, as people recognized him as Broly, and then he got to voice a new version of Broly and that movie became so big, I think he became very attached to the role as well.
