Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Just when we all thought things were finally slowing down, more bombshells were dropped this last week than over Dresden. But let's attempt a slightly anachronistic return to normalcy with another nice convention story from @EriMin earlier today.

Now I'm sure we're all curious as to which convention and which CEO, but that's a bit of a mystery. However, I do recall that Erica worked at AWA for many years, including those when a certain affiant for Rial and Toye had assumed leadership of the convention. I wonder if this is a story about him.

Edit: Also, I hadn't seen this posted either. It's a few days old, but still relevant.

Maybe Monica, Jamie, and Chris are jealous of Vic for his amazing friends.
God she's so fucking cool.
I'm very happy she's speaking out so loudly against the toxic "listen and believe" culture that's going around.
I appreciate her greatly.

Honestly the idea of SJWs loving anything made by Rumiko Takahashi is hilarious considering how insanely politically incorrect her stuff is. She is very proud of sexualizing her female characters to the most ridiculous degrees it’s downright comical...also she loves perverts, and in Inuyasha the only major gay character was a villain who was a homicidal maniac.

She’s also an absolute sped and I love her for it.

Then again 99.9999 % of anime is politically incorrect to the West and yet these people cling to it for some reason.

If Ranma 1 / 2 ever got a reboot after so long, the NPC Crowd would be on a bigger rant in their warpath worse than Shield Hero or Fire Force~ From Ranma in his female form parading around with no tops in certain circumstances, Ranma attempting to change a “lesbian” straight by wooing her (Not knowing that the girl was actually a trap) to the villain Pantyhose Taro mostly using transphobic and homophobic slurs at Ranma’s expense.

I would pay money just to watch their heads implode from this.

You make me want this to happen from the comedy goldmine alone of just how Ranma is a genderbender and they already see genderbending as transphobic for some re.tarded reason. But the amount of crap she injects into Ranma is enough to make any one of their heads explode from just 5 seconds of it.

...then I remember Mike Dumbford admits he’s a fan of Ranma.

If I may devil's advocate here for a second:
  • Nick gets sued for some stupid bullshit reason. (Doesn't have to make sense, just has to be plausable enough -- defamation, TI, theft of trade secrets, etc.)
  • Suddenly, Nick is a party to the greater legal action against KickVic.
  • This means that Nick discussing it on his show becomes problematic from an ethics and legal standpoint, if not a legal defense standpoint.
  • They might even demand a gag order or a protection order from a judge if they go the "he's leaking our TRADE SECRETS" angle.
  • Thus, they silence Nick, at least temporarily
Which is their goal. Shutting Nick up. Considering he spent last week completely destroying Ron, Funimation, and when he covers Sabat's Rape Dungeon he keeps at the Otakutron 5000 offices -- you can call it a casting couch if you want, I prefer "Rape Dungeon" -- on tonight's stream, well.

They're probably pretty damned desperate to get him to stop talking by now.

Them attempting to do so in a Federal Court would be interesting because IIRC Nick has said he hasn't taken the bar for Federal cases or ... somesuch. I don't fully understand and may be misremembering. But the takeaway I got is that a Federal Court would require he get an attorney, because Nick doesn't do federal cases.

In addition, by going federal, even if it's bullshit, they might avoid Nick's home state's Journalist Shield laws. At least temporarily -- They would no doubt try to push the case to be tried in Texas, Nick would push to have it in Minnesota, and as we've seen with Meyer vs Waid, jurisdiction games can take fucking forever.
Other people have already commented on the particulars, but I ask you: what have these people done so far that suggests the ability to prevail in a Federal lawsuit? Even on a motion?

I mean, between J Sean, Lemoine, Law Twitter, and Renfamous, there's little besides gay ops, botched attempts to avoid discovery, affidavits that are contradicted by facts / video evidence, rejection of confidentiality that has done nothing but hurt the defendants, the refusal to turn over anything in discovery, and just general incompetence.

These people live in the Twitter universe. It's not compatible with the real world court system. Let's say Funimation brings out the big guns, retains a competent firm with good attorneys. What exactly are they going to do to shut down a journalist? Don't answer that, I can think of a few things but they all end with sanctions and attorney's fees. And competent counsel generally does not go there.

For that matter, the Streisand Effect. This is Nick, beloved of Dick Masterson, EVS, YBZ, Tim Pool and The Quartering, who have all been attacked by the same SJWs going after Vic. Do you really think Nick is suddenly silenced if he gets served? Seems to be they would be handing him a megaphone.

No one wants to ask for trouble, but I see no worthy adversaries. Just clowns who like to Tweet, with empty lines at conventions, who have no real relationships outside their tiny power bubble of VAs. And the lawyers who represent them, and the others who covet clout.

My main issue is that in modern day if we remade a show like Ranma 1/2 where nudity is very prevalent in the story, you'd probably get light/steam nipple censors and have to pay for a Blu-Ray release for the uncut fanservice.

I've never observed a cursed friend group where money and company positions are involved.
That's got to be a whole 'nother level of bitterness and backstabbing that I lack the processing power to mentally model in my mind.
High functioning nutso adult children can get insane enough to where you worry about someone getting into a fingernail fight when it's only small levels of local social approval on the line.

Anyway, have you ever observed a tight knit clique where the members repeat this joke:
"we have so much dirt on each other we have no choice, hehe!"
Never got why that was funny, but maybe it was a deep cry for help. I've seen it a few places from a certain type of clique, and they would say that line more often than a boomer guy proud of his Mickey Mouse impersonation would flex his Mickey voice around kids.
I wonder if anyone else has seen a clique use that joke before, and if they had the same "creepy people who never mentally left high school energy"
I have seen it in multiple groups too. It's not uniquely a political thing, it's more-so interpersonal with personality types. Of course there is a correlation, but not causation. I had a friend who would cut herself and would coyly show it off because they knew I didn't like self harm. Not that I am afraid of blood or getting hurt, but rather that I see it as a cry for help. The way she was acting was not like she needed help but was using it for her own manipulative benefits. We had been best friends for a while, but after I took some time away I saw the many things she would do and I realised what sort of person she was.

The people I trust the most out of my friends are those who have had genuine issues and spoke to me about them, and I do the same. You can really judge a person by how they react after you confront them on something. Another best friend of mine was making things up about me behind my back and I confronted them, lightly. They said sorry but her friend had blocked me indicating she wasn't stopping.

The story for both of them was simple: Excommunicado. I stopped talking to them and made it clear. Both of them know outright as do our mutuals. Some of those mutuals sided with me and joined me in ignoring one or the other: Turns out everyone else wanted a get out but people were too scared to confront a friend about their behaviour and were stuck in. Ofc I found out more information from these people which enforced my choice.

And I take it to the flipside too. Had another person who is a good friend of mine who heard other lies about me before she knew me and she started with a bad taste in her mouth. Eventually she got to know me and realised it was all all BS. 2 Years later she is siding with me during unfair unrelated issues and is someone I can trust to keep a secret (Which means a lot).

Point is take your criticism on the chin because the people giving it become your good friends and will back you up when it's unfair, and dish it to friends because they may not even consider you a friend in the same way unless you test that faith. I still have friends who I have known for more than half my life now because I treat them like people and can go long periods of time without talking and still know we are happy to see each other.

These cretins treat people like pawns and when they eventually are knocked down will find themselves losing even more to get back up.

Funimation and Crunchyroll stream uncut versions once they're released.

Anyway, I think it's funny just how hard they're jerking off lawtwitter, when Lawtwitter is the first ones to get the knives in the back once things go downhill. Fuhrer Lemoine will be incompetent, the threadnought full of ignoramouses who encouraged the wrong behavior, etc. If only they had better lawyers, they'd have beaten Vic's obviously frivolous and wrong lawsuit!

I wish it could happen, because we have more examples such as:

-Akane’s obsession with being more "feminine" and horrified that Ranma can do several "feminine" things better than she can (cooking, sewing, etc.) and Ranma himself using his girl form to eat sweets without being insulted or made fun of by others, as a guy.

-Happosai basically being “Rape Culture” or at least being the gropey monster KV sees Vic as in their eyes.

-Shampoo basically being “Me So Horny, Me Love You Long Time” incarnate.

-The entire quest to make Ranma a “Man Amongst Men” with Genma making a four year old sign a contract to his mother where she would kill him if he was anything less.

-And finally, LGBT being met with disdain and disgust by virtually everyone in the entire series even from the faintest hint of being a homosexual where lesbians and gays were labeled perverts. This doesn’t include when Akane called Ranma a freak because of his curse in one story, and concluding that he’s “sick and twisted” due to it.

Holy fuck, we need a reboot NOW.

...wait... I just saw this episode. These people are the spider demon clan from Kimetsu no Yaiba. They're a bunch of Ruis who can never have a real human bond, and so replace it with fear.

Kimetsu no Yaiba is a breath of fresh air in a somewhat stale genre. I was blown away by the animation, especially the sword forms and combat, and the story is compelling. Despite "spoiling" the Anime by reading the manga I can't fucking wait for the next episode to drop every week.

I could do without the fanbases creepy obsession with Nezuko, but that happens whenever there is a badass/cute female character so *shrug*

Vic is such a dork. 😄
What is it about? The wine?
Yeah, I don't know where the impression that Yukana plays games with Junichi is coming from. She's the classical 'looks like a slut but is actually a bit of a shy virgin' trope from anime with a layer of bimbo dropped on top. Ranko is the one who is the tease trying to mess with the MC.

I think the dub is quite funny, though. I think it handles Junichi being freaked out by Minoru better than the sub does.

I don't think Ocean or Harmony Gold or any of those should make a comeback, as they are just...not great dubs. They gave dubs the bad name they have now. Handing it off to Aniplex/Sony/Sentai would be better.
That's why Yukana is best girl. Yui is beautiful, but she's an evil thot.

Reactions: Hotfartz :)
This would be pretty awful considering Nick has, what, five children?

Children of a "Nazi." That's fair game in the SocJus religion.

His career. His marriage. His wife. His kids. His house. Their futures. Their happiness.

They're all fair game to SocJus. If anything happens to any of them, the SocJus types will shrug their shoulders, smirk and say "freedom of speech not freedom from consequences" and play meddlesome priest.

But if you even show up to ask them a rude question at a convention, it's the literal worst thing ever™ .

What an absolute legend

Nah, they don't think Genderbending is transphobic. They think Genderbending characters are transgender.

No, literally. If Ranma 1/2 came out today, they would insist that he's a Transgender lesbian icon. Because the trans borg thinks that they own ALL gender tropes. Every single one. Guy dresses up? He's trans. Guy forced to turn into a magical girl in a 1 episode sailor moon parody? Clearly trans. Girl feels comfortable in pants and doing manly things like fixing cars? TRANS TRANS TRANS, FUCK YOU THEY'RE ALL TRANS. Translator fucks with the source material by inserting stupid pronoun bullshit that wasn't in the source material? GUESS WHAT YOU CISGENDER ASSHOLES, XIE'S TRANS TOO!!!!!1111

Infiniteloops covers this here, as the "trans borg." Basically, Transgenderism -- chronic gender dysphoria, the mental illness -- got merged with every single thing gender related. Drag queens. Transsexuals. Autogynophilics. "Political Transgenders." Et cetera. All in a desperate attempt to destroy gender norms, normalize their fetishes, and mine fresh new layers of oppression.

There's an entire Tumblr fandom dedicated to this sort of bullshit -- https://transcharaoftheday.tumblr.com/, for example. It's not good enough to be represented. They don't care about "representation." They care about forcing their stupid fetishes to be normalized.

If Ranma 1/2 came out they would be unimaginably smug. The only thing that might throw this off would be fanservice, or Takahashi outright ruining the "she's trans lol" thing -- which she, being kinda Politically Incorrect, would do in a heartbeat. (IIRC, she's done so before specifically with "Is Ranma Trans" thing.)
