Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Well boys and girls, kiwis and lurkers, this is it. The Season 2 finale of WeebWars is almost upon us. Season 1 had a shaky start, with just Nicky Rackets trying to hold the story together, but really picked up steam with the introduction of Ty Beard. And that triumphant ending as the lawsuit was filed and the opposition was sent scrambling for cover as the war truly began. Here, we either enter Season 3 triumphant, riding the high of the TCPA victory, or we are left hanging, with an inconclusive hearing, or even a loss. Either way, the writers have truly outdone themselves. Season 1 had a great cast, Shane, Marzgurl, Beth Elderkin, ANN, io9, all the classics. Season 2 really brought the heat with the Lawtwitter arc, and although Douchette, J Sean, and Dunford may not have lived up to Shane, they have brightened all of our lives and thrown the story into fresh new directions. And who could have forgotten the Leaks arc, the Toye revelations and subsequent downfall of the Tragic Hero Joseph, followed immediately by the DB audio leaks. It may have seemed corny on paper but damn it if the animators, writers, and actors managed to pull it off. Lets just hope that the writers keep up the quality of pacing and characters, despite the already high bar.

Season 1; The Phantom Lawsuit
Season 2; The Mignogna Strikes Back
Season 3; ???????????????????????
One word: Cocaine.

I'm guessing perhaps the Kiwis haven't been to many anime conventions? Every single one of them that manages to book multiple VA's has several 18+ panels all in the evening. This is at least hundreds per year. Why isn't anyone scouring for recordings? They would make the Funi leaks look tame. The format is typically Q&A that goes 80% sexual. The drunk VA's, not actually being clever, go for cheap laughs by being as vulgar as possible about fucking each other.

When the female VA's participate, all the male VA's include them in jokes about fucking, orgies, how they would have sex with each other, etc.

When attractive female audience members ask questions, I've heard the male VA hosts work in jokes about how they're going to need to get their dicks sucked if they want to get a response.

This is constant proof of a joking atmosphere involving insane amounts of sexual innuendo and straight forward references.

I'm all for whatever type of humor they want to provide but this kind of comedy is definitely a part of the culture that they're all involved with.

Facts. Lots of anime convention culture borrowed from many popular anime shows that had jokes and sexual innuendos in them. Many shows still do have them today. Back then it was popular to repeat lines or recall things like Lina Inverse boob jokes, Ranma gender jokes, the many times that Goku roasts Bulma, yaoi paddles, unwanted glomps, etc.

Although, the innuendos and memes that can be related have kind of died down a bit since cosplay became more popular. Most of the raunchy stuff are reserved for late night 18+ panels, especially hentai dubbing.

The leaks are to show how bullshit the investigation that led to Vic's firing. You are one week late about the funileaks. Monica and Jamie tried to paint Funimation as this wholesome company and vic was the homophobic rapist when they have possible casting couches, audio outtakes of actual homophobia, rape and pedophilia. The leaks is pointing out the hypocrisy of their employee handbook and bs investigation.
Just had an idea jump into my head.
If Toei revokes Funi's license for Dragonball because of the leaks, would that give Funi grounds to sue Nick for TI?
My first thought is "probably not", but it'd make for an interesting development.

I want to say no because nick is not attempting to make toei break a contract. This might make toei decide to not renew it, but it would not break it.

More importantly, he has not actively made attempts to have toei cancel funi. He has not called them up or attempted to make them break contract, unlike ron and monica. He is acting as a journalist in this capacity with the leaks. Otherwise news outlets would be getting sued left and right for reporting a company doing something stupid and share value going down as a result.

Been too busy with IRL stuff last couple of months to autistically check up on any weeb wars related thread. I've only been keeping up with what Nick's been posting on twitter directly.

Could anyone be generous enough to explain briefly what is this all about new counsel being brought in? Or at least point me towards a relevant post.

Not much, Just an attorney that Ty faced off against in the past that works in the Fort Worth Area joined in. Not much known reason but Ty thinks he is a good lawyer. We will see if he can Dethrone Jack Atlas as the best Kaiba.

Some lawyer named An Lee Hsu: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/weeb-wars.55345/page-9#post-5286819

Nick said he's someone who was on the other side of a case Ty litigated and he was impressed. (I'm not sure whether Ty or An won that case.)

He appears to specialize in corporate and securities law with an emphasis in contracts. Nobody knows as of yet exactly why he's been brought on board but apparently he's been involved in the case for some period of time before actually entering an appearance.

This also goes to show you that if 2 lawyers do not act hostile towards each other or start making it personal(lemon fuhrer started making this personal), that networking opportunties and partnerships can sometimes happen.

Good luck trying to silence freedom of press.
technically he has journalistic protections. This is partly his ability to say it, freedom of speech, and partly his ability to put it on blast, freedom of the press. The Press in "freedom of the Press" is the Printing Press which essentially individual access to the means of mass communication. I'm sperging on this because the professional journalists have worked hard to make people believe this is about creating a special class of people out of themselves. In fact, when they try to get Alex Jones kicked off YouTube, Twitter, etc. They are violating his freedom of the press rights. Unfortunately for Jones, this only applies to the government.

Meant to add his ability to put it on blast lets him do that free from consequences for the incidental chance Toei might hear it.

Actually is sends that message quite nicely. It does make the friction between Ty and Lemon seem personal and more Lemon's fault. It's like Ty saying, I get along fine with my colleuges, adversarial or not. It's almost as if that's half the purpose. The other half is the past few streams, Ty looks tired and desheveled. Seems he's overloaded (Vic is probably not his only case) and pulling in more help seems appropriate.

It was in the 60's in MN yesterday. I've come to the conclusion Nick does not own pants. He is the pants-less lawyer and we're lucky he doesn't stand up during streams.

@Blain20_ posted a video from AnimeIcon 2011 where Jamie Marchi tells a story about a crazy fan who she credits as the reason why they had "those locks" at FUNimation and why people needed a pass and a badge to get in.

She said this guy had previously entered Funimation's studio when they were in their old building and preformed a monologue for the talent coordinator and was asked to leave. He kept trying to audition and was not very good. She said that he had moved from Tennessee to be a voice actor at FUNimation and during a panel at a convention he made a scene about how he was the next Vic Mignogna. He left and later, he cornered a voice actress against a wall and demanded that she help him get into the industry. He was kicked out of the convention and was no longer allowed at any conventions in Texas. After he stormed into FUNimation at their new studio and had to be forcibly removed, "those locks" were put in.

The comments say that this was Johnny Otaku.

So some crazy guy who thought he was the next Vic Mignogna makes a scene at FUNimation. The employees jokingly refer to their new security system as "Vic Locks". 10 years later, this bit of FUNimation lore is used to impugn Vic's character by someone who was there when it happened and would know the history behind the so-called "Vic Locks".

Apparently, there was a video of the altercation Jamie describes in the video, but it's no longer on YouTube.

Once again, it proves that this clique has agreed to lie in order to defame Vic.

It also dawned on me that Nick would also have to directly contact Toei and attempt to induce a breach. We have no evidence of that, and I think it's safe to say that Nick isn't exceptional enough to even try.

And another one busted.

I missed like 10 minutes of Nick's stream because it died halfway, but apparently, he teased he got a phone call, and this mystery person is going to be a guest on the show. Could be Dark Horse Steph?
It could also be the Funimation insider who leaked those audio clips to Nick.
It would be far better for it to be Stephanie, though.
It's a safe bet that the Funi clique will run a full-blown smear campaign on her if she goes on Nick's show.
Another.....remote......possibility is that Ron tried to intimidate Nick, and Nick managed to record some of it.
I would love to hear Ron when he's REEEEEEEing. Does he still sound like an effeminite soy-filled cuck,or does he do a Jekyll to Hyde transformation?
