It just seems that would be a minefield they wouldn't want to enter. While an informed person might know that telling Chris to dress properly has merit, it would be easy for someone who had never heard of Chris to see "judge tells autistic transsexual that he cannot be a woman in his court" and be offended. Probably not that likely, but you never know when some local reporter is going to be hanging around the courthouse looking for a story, and it would set off a minor shitstorm of Social Justice fighting.Maybe but Chris has made no effort to change his gender identity officially so as far as the judge or bailiff knows he's just a crossdresser.
If that's the case maybe they wanted to let Chris know that it's not an appropriate place to do that? (Since Chris is autistic and they're trying to be helpful)
And why would he be aware of what efforts Chris has made to change his gender?
On the other hand, you let him dress as a bag lady, and noone really cares. If I were the judge, I wouldn't see any upside in telling Chris not to dress like a woman.
