It just seems that would be a minefield they wouldn't want to enter. While an informed person might know that telling Chris to dress properly has merit, it would be easy for someone who had never heard of Chris to see "judge tells autistic transsexual that he cannot be a woman in his court" and be offended. Probably not that likely, but you never know when some local reporter is going to be hanging around the courthouse looking for a story, and it would set off a minor shitstorm of Social Justice fighting.

IANAL, but that appears to be the process, according to websites of actual Virginia lawyers. Preliminary hearing, then a grand jury, and then he enters a plea after that. That's the Virginia felony process.

I don't think Chris reads kiwifarms that much. Unless it's being waved in front of his face, it's unlikely Chris saw the descriptions of the hearing. Also he forgot about the trial after he left the courthouse. Chris really doesn't give a shit right now.

Every newspaper article about the Albemarle county court system says it is very overburdened. Disappointing as the continuance was for us, it seems not unusual given that.

While it was more or less an attempt to get China in the beginning, as it is now he's pretty much just got a lot of gender issues and hasn't had any kind of help with them.. so we have a Chris Tran on our hands. I wouldn't be totally surprised to see him make legal changes if he heard about it being a thing, personally.

There's nothing really that unusual about a delay by itself. If you need any indication of how quickly these cases usually move, bear in mind that it took two or three court hearings for the state to decide that Chris's "disturbing the peace" charge after the first Target incident ten years ago wasn't worth the effort to actually take to trial.

Besides, I'm guessing that a lot of the continuances last time around were the result of Rob Bell using procedural matters to string things out. Chris's PD likely isn't going to do the same thing.
