There doesn't seem to be a rule against it, but that doesn't mean it's in any way likely to happen.

I'm not seeing much wriggle room for reconsideration here considering the notice of appeal has to be filed within 20 days of the decision and then gets on a rocket docket in the appeals court.

Also the judge shut down the defense lawyers after ruling in their favor before they'd even made their full arguments, so if he reverses himself without having considered what they WOULD have said, now he's prejudiced them. The way he bungled this entire hearing means everyone involved has reversible error of some sort if he rules against them in any way.

Can he call them back in for another TCPA hearing?

was about to say, didn't he already prejudiced himself with the "Nah I got the defenses binder here" line? I mean why stop once maybe he's playing a prejudicial version of "meow"?

I think Nick meant that the judge can make a bench ruling (e.g. Marchi removed on all counts), but in his written ruling basically go "lol no u" and stick her with defamation, for example. Will it happen? Probably not. But can it happen? Apparently it's possible.

But like you said Chupp ruled himself into a corner. Dismisses all causes of action? Ty takes it to appeal and probably has a decent chance on at least TI-EC. Chupp keeps his current ruling (defamation plus conspiracy on MoRon, and defamation on Funi), the defendants file an interlocutory appeal, and (I think) Ty files a cross appeal. Chupp loses his mind and reinstates TI and brings Marchi back on some counts? More defendant appeals.

That salt would be glorious for the third option, though.

So what's been goin' on in stream? I've been drinkin', watching Star Blazers on Youtube, and dealing with a close relative havin' a baby.
Nothing much really, he talked about the GFM and some other stuff early on then started playing Ace Attorney. Stream seems to be over now.

Crunchyroll/Viz merger after Toei meeting? Color me intrigued if it's true

Also @Hotfartz :) I dig the avatar. Good series.

Crunchyroll is a little too in-bed with Funimation, I'm not sure I like that. Crunchyroll's anime, Bungo Stray Dogs, is one of only two anime so far to have actually aired episodes with a replacement Vic VA. I've pointed out they seem to source their VA from Funimation, but the point remains. Right now Viz has shown and said nothing to indicate they won't work with Vic, but if CR took it for some reason it would likely shut down an avenue for Vic.

Because they actually are rotten people.

Funny, when it was first (incorrectly) explained to me, it was as 'female otaku, those who have husbandos and waifus like male otaku, are considered "rotten women" for being into anime/ecchi' and I was like 'aw man, crazy Japan and its sexism, look at it go' but...actual fujoshi are indeed rotten women.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that the person who first explained the term to me was in fact a fujoshi.

Ditto on the Enterprise theft thing! She's a beauty...

EDIT: to add drool-worthy video of her I took back in Feb

I find something strangely amusing about the fact that it seems you popped over to your friend's house in the middle of a crisis (as it was in February) while he was on the phone apparently getting annoyed at someone over his house in California and were like 'hol' up. gonna whip out my phone and get some ship porn for my stash'.

It's really pretty though, love the spinning lights.

DS9 for life.

I THINK YOU MEAN VOYAGER.

I kid. DS9 is the only correct and cultured answer for 'best star trek'. It's painfully underrated.

So the thing that's coming next week:

- is something nobody expects
- is very weird/strange
- "so weird it could mean either very little or a whole lot"
- Nick doesn't know what it's going to mean or how it's going to work
- people who think they are out of the lawsuit may not be
- is not a filing

Funimation settling might fit that criteria. They already stated in their responses that they never intended to imply that Vic had harassed anyone, so they shouldn't be opposed to making a statement like that. I suppose it's weird that it would be happening now, before the judge has ruled, but there would have been appeals either way. Maybe Ty's terms have come down since the hearing or Funimation got cold feet. Depending on what he gets, it could mean very little or a whole lot.

Of course, it's an absolute lie. They said something that sounded like they were calling Vic a sexual harasser and confirming the allegations against him, everyone who read it reacted to it like they were saying that, they didn't correct the record, they're now claiming in court they did an investigation and he actually is a sexual harasser, but despite believing that, and publicly saying shit that indicates they believe that, they really never actually said it, honest injun.

It's a little ironic just how ignorant some weebs can be of Japanese culture. Whenever I see somebody proudly describe themselves as an otaku, I immediately think "do they even know that that word is not considered a compliment in Japan?"

A fellow man of culture, I see. Whenever I'm in the mood for Trek, 99% of the time it's The Sisko (first name Don't Fuck With).

It's considered insulting, but it's not inaccurate to say that the otaku have taken the term and claimed it for themselves as well. It's less negative now than it used to be. Fujoshi is still pretty negative, though. That said, I believe NEET and hikkikomori are more along the lines of the undesirable portion of the population that otaku used to be considered. Though it's not uncommon to just tie up otaku, NEET, and hikki into a bow. Japan is not at all a fan of people who don't conform properly.

DS9 did 'Star Trek but different' correctly. Discovery should be more like DS9.

I'm feeling it's going to be kind of a nothingburger.

Kind of feels that way. I really don't know that anything groundbreaking is going to come from whatever he has to say.

If it was something big I think we'd be seeing evidence of it elsewhere or at least indications of what it could be.
