I am resigning effective immediately from my position in CSAIL at MIT. I am doing this due to pressure on MIT and me over a series of misunderstandings and mischaracterizations.

I actually heard thst wasn't true.

The main contention uniting these attacks was ostensibly rooted in data: According to one Github repository related to the project, astrophysicist Andrew Chael wrote “850,000 of the 900,000 lines of code...in the historic black-hole image algorithm.” But this is a laughably simplistic assessment for a software library that was built with and released on open source licenses, which allow anyone in the world to use and adapt their code without much consideration for the number of lines of code shared along the way.

He didn't get anywhere in corporate America. His whole movement started when he noticed people in MIT's AI lab parting out pieces of software that were collaboratively developed in the university and using them for closed down software projects in corporate America. That fact that they want to replace the most eminently qualified programmer for a country mile with a indoor garden and another women's center instead of maybe hiring another eminently qualified programmer is pretty telling.

Stallman might be the most autistic man alive. He is such an absolutist. He is freakishly deadset in the way he lives his life and uses computers. Carl Sustein in one of his books recalls spending time in the same dorm as him and Bill Gates (at different times). Gates was this low key dullard in comparison to how the nerds at Harvard adored stallmans intensity and intellect.

Him resigning from MIT probably means he is homeless now. From what I recall he doesn't work there, but they granted him a residence to live in.
