Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

I always expect projects like this to be late. Nearly every Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, etc. I backed was late, no matter what it was. The one that wasn't was YBZ with Iron Sights, which wasn't colored. Like, if you back anyone on any Kickstarted project, especially with it being their first one, it should be expected. I mean, not really very many go on time even if it isn't. Also, a ton of these projects fail to ever get delivered as well.

I'm not saying "COUNT YOUR LUCKY STARS YOU GOT YOUR FROG BOOK ASSHOLE" I just don't get the mentality when delays are very common with projects like these. Yeah, if you never get your shit like the Rob Liefield one, start storming the gates. A year late sucks, but with a first project that's very big, it isn't all that uncommon. If it gets to be a tradition, that's a different thing. If you can tolerate it being late, that's your decision. If not, well, lesson learned this time around. At least you got it and it didn't disappear into the ether like so many others. You just don't back another campaign of his.

And all projects on Indiegogo and Kickstarter are ALWAYS 'caveat emptor'. You may never get your shit. So don't put money into these without being aware of that risk. I'm not saying EVS will rip you off, but this happens too.

I’m glad it’s finally getting into people’s hands. Looks like all the goodies like the bookmark and trading card are there too. I hope EVS uses his experience with this to crank out his next book faster. It’s amazing how quickly Twitter spergs will shut up about you when you prove them wrong in every respect (ex: Zack).

Hello everybody. I don't follow comicsgate that closely, I'm not that into western comics, and I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I was watching one of Zack's videos where he talks about how the only industry statistics that are available are the Diamond sales figures, which don't really talk about sales to end users and how that doesn't really help people figure out what's actually going on. Does anyone here think it could be possible to implement a website that allows comicbook shops to self-report their sales and then compile that data into a publicly view-able spreadsheet that gets released once a month?

No.

1) What incentive(s) are you providing retailers to spend their time updating your spreadsheet?
2) How would you ensure that any data they provided was truthful and accurate?
3) How would you prevent Marvel/DC/Diamond from instantly shutting you down?

If you had the resources of, say, Nielsen, you might be able to pull something like this off. But some schlub starting up a website and asking retailers to report their own numbers is not something that will ever be successful.

Well I don't think that Marvel, DC, or Diamond have any ability to shut it down, but the other two points you made are correct. There would be nothing to use to incentivize people to self-report or to self-report accurate numbers.

What? You mean people like Mags and Zoe would lie and claim they sold eleventy billion copies of their colored toilet paper? I don't believe you.

The numbers I'd love to see is how rampant "overshipping" is, and who are the biggest offenders. Order three copies of Ms. Marvel, get ten, etc. But, yeah, this probably isn't feasible.

Kudos @FROG , you managed to get them out this month. Hope any future products have less delay issues (since despite my kvetching I still like the Reignbow Brute idea) and you get on with finishing Zack's cover.

Nice, thanks Adamska. REIGNBOW BRUTE is going to have a lot more merch attached to it, so I don't know about how long it'll take. I'm in no rush to start the campaign though, so I don't consider the clock started until I do. I've gotta make all of these 80's girl relics come back to life, including Scratch N Sniff stickers, a Trapper Keeper, a lunchbox carrying case, and maybe a PVC eraser shaped like REIGNBOW. It's a huge gimmicky release, so I'll draw most of it while working out those extras, and put it out when I've got it mostly together.

I hope you get a laugh out of it and find it amusing. Have a good one!

That sounds like a brilliant idea. I think you should probably get someone experienced in that sort of thing to handle the logistics and make sure everything runs on a set schedule.

@FROG Remember these?

@FROG LOW BLOW EVS! Quit flexing on us, big boy, we all know you make fat stacks. Not every hater cares about your penis size. You don't have to tell every nobody on twitter.

Ethan Van Sciver watches the haters cry while he sits on 2 acres of land in a pile of money.

And hey, while I'm here, let me highlight the "great successes" of ComicsGaters. The people making over 8 times Tim Lim makes. Keep in mind, Black Hops is only at 9k.
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/deathsworn-book-one#/ -This one looks pretty good, might get up to 30K!!! WOW!

AND MORE!!!

The sad thing is a few of those books (GROM for example) look somewhat professional. The general concepts of them are just incredibly lame. Tim Lim has an audience and he knows how to play to them. He does most of the art himself so even if one of his books underperforms he’s keeping more profits than most of the other crowdfunded books

But punching down like this @FROG is to quote Trump is a "Low Energy" move

Tim has an audience, and he makes money. Not a LOT of money....but he is MUCH earlier in his career then you. How much cash did you make starting out?

He's been Opping Gaily against me for more than a year, trying to peel off supporters and other professionals. Looking for dirt with secret codes and handshakes. And he pretends to be a victim, to be innocent. I've just kinda lightly made fun of him in return.

I like his work, I'd love to promote him, and I wish he'd just knock it off and join this group. But he's got a real chip on his shoulder from last summer, when I offhandedly declared that Trump satire comics were kind of a waste of time. I must have apologized a hundred times for it. I dunno.

Good lord. This must have been how Joseph Smith felt when Moroni showed him the Golden Plates.

For your next campaign: "As I understand it" some of those mail/stamp things can populate an email with a tracking #

I appreciate being able to track my stuff

Good tip! Did you receive your book yet? I'm hearing from England and Florida today...so it's hit a pretty good shipping radius.
