Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

I really don't think a media conglomerate mismanaging a hot property should be viewed by anyone as a sign of the end times. If Star Wars (and Hollywood in general) becoming shitty is a sign of the end of western civilization then we deserve to die. Hollywood's just a shambling juggernaut of Old Media that needs some hard times to figure out how to make things people want to watch again.
That’s why I’m being optimistic that Episode 9 becomes the Heaven’s Gate of tentpole blockbusters because Hollywood seriously needs a wake up call.

Not going to happen as long as the Old Media haves total control over the U.S Copyright Office and is an uncontested oligopoly. Trust busting, erasing the copyright extensions so everything older than ten or so years is public domain and anyone who tries to do another Disney-ish extension gets the shoot, shovel, shutup treatment no ifs, ands or buts. Especially when Hollywood gets tax dollars from the Fed, State and local Govts so anything they make does technically belong to the people since they payed for it.

So the new Rey+Luke comic we all talked about a few pages back finally came out where they "fix" Luke's interest in training Rey. Exactly as I thought, it was a setup for a giant sea monster fight, but instead of using the tentacled penis thing, they use a generic sea serpent.
1569465733860.png

Unsurprisingly. The sea serpent blows the fuck out Luke and Chewie so its up to Rey to use her amazing Force powers to stop the beast and save the day while Luke is useless and incredibly hostile towards the idea of using the Force. The comic then tries to downplay Rey's sue force by having Luke explain that the only reason the monster attacked was because Rey upset the creature's nest when she moved the giant rock, I guess to try and imply that she's not perfect despite being insanely powerful still, but Luke gets portrayed as a hero in the end to try and salvage this shit somehow. And for some reason Chewbacca almost sacrifices himself to save two Porgs for some reason.

Also Leia and Holdo go to a dance club and the green twilek from Rebels was also on Hoth during ESB and taught Leia how to ride a Tauntaun. Everything ties back to Space Aladdin & Friends now. Man the galaxy really is underpopulated (which actually seems to be the case according to the updated map of the galaxy from Galaxy's Edge).

It's not the apocalypse. It's just the American superpower reaching end-stage status. It's happened to a lot of superpowers in the past. The Fate of Empires is a book that breaks down about 12 of these historical empires, and the various stages of their unraveling. If America breaks up and fails, the balkanized remnants will forge themselves into something new and start jockeying for position. I'm not sure how the development of high technology and mass media will affect this process - if anything, it's made everything FEEL more apocalyptic and on a worldly scale, simply because we know more about what's going on everywhere, whereby in the past, you only knew what was going on in your back yard.

As for Hollywood, I suspect there are forces other than the raw free market determining what gets made these days. You can't have a media empire - an engine for producing works of art that influence impressionable minds and constructs their reality - and NOT have it being used by the powers that be to push certain products and agendas. A lot of people are getting savvier to media manipulation these days, but there are still lots of normies out there who will watch TV shows and think everything portrayed in them is gospel. My sister in law is convinced white men are bad and racism is rampant in society because she watched a hospital drama where the eeeevil old white guy who ran the maternity department and a bunch of racist white nurses let a black woman die because they didn't want to be bothered with giving her proper post-birth care. (And of course, the eeeevil old white guy got a lecture from both a black and an Indian surgeon about how his carelessness and white privilege caused a brave WOC to die.) These heavy-handed lectures are in DOZENS of shows now and their purpose is clear: "Whitey Bad. POCs good." And normies and Boomers soak this shit up.

Other than the fact they put her every-fucking-where, I don't have an issue with General Oola from Space Aladin being used as INSERT RECOGNIZABLE REBEL LEADER CONTACT as she seems to be mostly decent and not Sue'd to the extreme.

That Holdo panel. Jesus christ. "All the things". Everyone involved should commit seppuku.

The ego on these shitlords to continue to make Rey SUPERSPESHULAWESOMESAUCE invincible even after all the criticism lobbied at her is exceedingly irritating. I've never met a coalition of writers, directors, and overall creatives so far in denial that their character is shit.

Two movies and countless comics/novels and still not a single solid flaw on this broad. She canonically found out that she had the Force--what, two to three days ago?--and she's already lifting goddamn sea-kaijus. Luke couldn't even lift his ship out of the swamp without Yoda's help.

There's nothing wrong with flaws. Absolutely fucking NOTHING. Flaws make us human. They separate us from being perceived as robots or animals. A flaw is a project to work on, a step forward to overcome obstacles and change for the better. Development, personality, and relatability are all key consequences of a character having flaws.

Even if Rey being freakishly strong or talented was part of her character, you could still work some shit in. Have her be too arrogant or lazy enough to not apply herself except during useless circumstances. Maybe even give her an emotion-related excuse to be crazy strong--an overly large sense of empathy and a motherly need to protect others that causes her powers to surge to the point of being destructive. Any of this shit could work.

This is such cookie-cutter bullshit and I'm sick of seeing it. I was so quick to defend Rey post-TFA because I was certain she'd have her morally-gray moments in TLJ. I never imagined a studio and its arrogance could create so many frustrating ripple effects on how to totally ruin a character's potential.

I hate falling behind on this thread because there's so much meat in the pages I feel the need to read through them all.
I've never understood the whole "I can only like characters who look like me" mentality.
While I agree it is ridiculous I have occasionally had that "wow the character looks like me" moments when a character is left handed. Being left handed I notice it in film and shows almost immediately. Most people are portrayed right handed. There have been moments where I've been more drawn to a show when there is a left handed character, but I'd never demand more left handed people show up, and it doesn't stop me from identifying with right-handed people.

Really though we should be doing our best to eliminate right hand privilege. They have a monopoly on everything right now.

owned it for years while never closing her mouth.
Last year a friend convinced me to go over and watch episode 8 (I skipped it in theaters). About 1/4 of the way into the movie I verbally noted how much her mouth was open in a scene where she was silent, and began to point it out every time. It was ridiculous and I can't fathom how it wasn't addressed on set. it makes her look horrible.

This is autistic, but in TFA, why couldn’t Kyle Ren just have the First Order venture out in the missing area of the map he was looking for? To me it get like a massive dumb plot hole.
I hate how people justify this, but also say Luke shouldn't've been able to fly an X-wing. Maybe if they had explained the space in that area was some sort of massive expanse, or the path to nun planet was protected by an asteroid field and required specific coordinates to use for a flight plan. Easy explanation and it doesn't make the movie look silly.

but the comic will apparently reveal its real name, which is apparently... Han the Porg.
If my best friend Jack died in front of me I wouldn't be walking around later with a pet seagull named Jack (wearing little copies of his clothes). Who thought that was a smart idea?

A bit of a blast from the past I found the old Dresden Codak thread here on the Farms. I had forgotten but he also posted a lot regarding a project he was working on called Star Wars '99 (linked his tumblr archive which has the remnants I could find.) If anyone feels like checking some of it out feel free. Dresden has this issue of sticking his hands into other people's cookie jars (he caused quite a stir with some of his art regarding a female Link.) He also had some weird ideas regarding old canon, and pretty much called Yoda a liar (archive). Here's his introduction to what he intended to do (archive) with the project as well.
Also the fan art he did for TFA:

He quit working on this project, but I thought some of you might like to read through some of his stuff for a laugh.

Even so, I wouldn't call it quits just yet. The free internet outside of Google's eye still exists regardless and if theres one thing true about any empire, including that of the elites, it's that if they don't die then they will st least thoroughly change. The current crop of silent generation and boomer mishandlers is nearing their death and no matter what they try, they will die and rot like anything else. Their children, even if fully aware of the purpose of these mechanisms is still comprised of different people with differing wants, cares and abilities. This machinery by it's very purpose will collapse on itself their if not anywhere else by the very nature of its purpose (to inspire a dull, unfulfilled and narcissistic generation) backfiring like most deeds, good or ill. The question is whether it will take us all with it and as long as the question is valid instead of answered, we have a measure of hope.

You cant have a fucking LOTR sequel where Sauron returns more powerful than ever and when someone asks how and why, the answer simply being "does it matter?". Thats fanfiction tier level writing!
There is overexplaning every detail and then there is simply not caring about logical consistency. If you shot a band of bad guys and kills 4 out of 6 dudes, you cant expect them to come back 5 minutes later with 30 dudes armed to the teeth without a damn good explanation!

Stuff like this is the "we dont care, this is fiction, why should you care?" equivalent, complete lack of respect.

it's not hard with the right... talent. also, speaking of LOTR

Random sped musing here: Tarantino wants to make a Star Trek movie, but surely Star Wars would suit his talents more? Space samurai, twist connections between characters etc?

both big enough that you could all kinds of stories and at least star trek was always more about the crew than MUH ENTERPRISE, while even lucas fell for revolving everything about the skywalkers, when TOR proved the opposite.
depending who you ask he's kinda of a hack tho, but at least the movie itself will be entertaining on some level.

Tbh white "men" have only themselves to blame for still obsessively consuming "pop culture" aka media and merchandise aimed for children while well into adulthood.

that's bullshit, and you know it. it's like saying you're not allowed to eat chocolate after a certain age (obligatory food analogy).
the basic themes of the heroes journey have no age rating, it all depends on the execution. same for most other stuff.
retarded consumerism has nothing to do with target of the media itself.

Seriously, we are heading towards a joyless unhappy age, now if this is intentional or not its up to you (I personally think it was carefully crafted by the elites to make western society passive and "comfortably unhappy" so we will be easier to manipulate). Everything is wrong, everything is racist, homophobic, islamophobic, phobic this and that...I honestly see this as a bubble and they know its going to pop sooner or later (just look at H.K). And if it ever goes into a civil war, remember, one side hates "mean old guns" and the other have them by the dozen...good luck.

bread and circuses only works when you keep the population happy enough to be complacent, and it's only a problem for western civilization really. asia is either too poor to give a fuck or does their own thing, africa will be fine (as fine as it can be) since no one gives a fuck, south america will probably profit in the long run if they don't slaughter each other first or china/india fucks up the planet completely.
as others said, empires coming and going is nothing new.

Good to see Diaz continues his tradition of making anything except for updates for his webcomic.

Kevin Feige is apparently making a SW movie.
He should become the new head of LucasFilm and let Victoria Alonso destroy the MCU.

It speaks extremely of the arrogance of the Elite with them actively screwing with the "bread and circuses" keeping the normies placated. U.S. normies had been very happy with being completely utterly fucking complacent to point they're proud of it. By screwing with the "bread & circuses" even the normies are waking up from their stupor and wondering what is happening. U.S. casuals while not red-pilled are those normies staying awake and starting to pay attention to WTH is going on in the real world. Hence the declining box office in ticket sales, same for sports viewership and almost everything else that's been messed with like Star Wars.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I for one would fucking love a Rated R Star Wars made by Tarantino (if we could throw out the Disney shit, that's what I'd start with, probably.). Motherfuckers would get slaughtered with the Force left, right, and center.
Was there ever a time when there was no distinction between Sith and Jedi?
Cause Tarantino would rock the fuck out of a movie in such a setting.

With Luke in the OT, there were some stakes that Luke might fall to the dark side (I mean, when you're genre savvy, you know it won't happen, but there was a chance that he might be tempted). So while one might expect him to end up a good guy, you simply didn't know whether he might be tempted and do something bad or how he'd overcome the temptation.
With Anakin in the PT, we knew he would be tempted and fall to the dark side. We just didn't know which direction the temptation would come from and how it would take shape and pan out.

With Rey and her lack of flaws, it would be unbelievable for her to fall to the dark side. Even if there was a scene where she was tempted, there wouldn't be the slightest shred of a doubt to her overcoming the temptation. That is boring.

Maybe if they had explained the space in that area was some sort of massive expanse, or the path to nun planet was protected by an asteroid field and required specific coordinates to use for a flight plan. Easy explanation and it doesn't make the movie look silly.
Or they could have put the planet in a nebula, would also have given an interesting set-piece and something unique to look at.

Unless it's 3 months from now and IX will make Rey the Chosen One, in which case it'll be stunning and brave, since there has never been a story with a "chosen one" woman.
Just like there was no movie with a female main cast before Ghostbustettes 2016. Or how there was never a black action movie star before whatshisface that played Black Panther.

As a sidenote it's really funny. These progressives do not want to support ongoing social progress, they want to be at the forefront of the change itself. They want to be the spearhead of the movement, therefore they have to be the first ones to support something and if anything similar or identical has ever happened before, it has to be ignored.
That's why Rey is treated like she's the first female character in a movie that's not just a screaming, fainting 50s horror-schlock bimbo.
SJWs don't want to support a movement that celebrates Rosa Parks as a great personality that made a change, they want to be Rosa Parks - and just to top that off, they want to be Rosa Parks by tweeting the right tweets, consuming the right products and regurgitate the right agenda bullet points.
They march in the endless lockstep of anonymous masses of SJWs, expecting to stand out from the faceless, nameless crowd, for doing the very same things everyone else does.

A German writer coined a neat term: Gratismut. Essentially, it's "costless courage", which is the spirit of saying or doing something, that carries no risk whatsoever, it's saying what no one would argue against, doing what no one would disprove of. The difference between this costless courage and regular cowardice is that costless courage is treated like it's a brave thing to do, a sarcastic self-inflation and virtue signaling amongst a crowd of like-minded people.
It's SJWs in a nutshell.

But I digress, Chuck Wendig is a terrible idiot and I would not be surprised if he thought LOTR was written around the early 2000s when the movies came out. Otherwise, I see no reason why or how he could criticise the books for using a "tired trope", the book is so old, it predates these tropes.
Also, the whole point of the book is that it's not a novel, it's a chronicle, so of course it has a lot of worldbuilding in it. It's not meant to be a modern, plot-driven novel, it's meant to be an epic tale in the tradition of Beowulf or the Song of Nibelungs.

And for that jab at the world being too white, male and straight, man. I hope I ever get the chance to punch this fucker in the face. He's the Dobson of literature, only he managed to suck enough cocks to get a few awards and a jig as a writer. I've not yet read a line of text written by this clown that wasn't cringe inducing as fuck.

nd for that jab at the world being too white, male and straight, man. I hope I ever get the chance to punch this fucker in the face.

Wakanda is too black, straight and male. The women exist only to serve the men directly or narratively without any agency. The happy ending is an isolated ethnostate embracing racial colonialism.

Just some suggestions for what to say between face punchings.

The SJWs are pissed about Feige working on a Star Wars movie.

Yes, these exceptional individuals think Star Wars was improved by Disney.

Oh geez. How could this happen?
Disney was pandering to these people with their products, now the very same people demand more and more?
After it happened dozens of times to dozens of companies, I sure as shit didn't see this coming at all, this time.

I especially like how many of these people obviously do not care for the quality of the product and only for the ethnicity and genitals of the people involved in making it.
And then they call themselves "true Star Wars fans", the irony.
