Powerleveling a bit here, but I was actually just recently in a layoff that involved well over a hundred employees being let go from the company. People keep saying "It's nowhere near as bad as being fired", but it's effectively the same thing. You just get a severance package, in my case at least.

Getting laid off rocks, I've gotten laid off and my last day is the 30th sept, I've been on paid gardening leave for the past week, starting an identical job at a different company on the 30th so little will change except an extra 10k in my bank account.

Uk fag though, we actually have employee rights over here if that makes a difference.

Maybe I'm being optimistic on this one but would translating subs and dubbing fall under "acquire and distribute." If not, it would certainly explain the layoffs, you wouldn't need a bunch of translators, typesetters and audio engineers if those things are no longer being handled in house.

I have no idea how this merger or whatever it ends up being will pan out but I'm not optimistic with it being Aniplex. Their pricing model is a very none starter for most people and even if they have a series I'd like to own I don't care. There are several similarly expensively priced things that I would rather spend my money on.

I'm surprised the ANN, with its desperate clickbait nature, would not jump on the chance to be able to put out an article on this new event. Them being quiet is very strange, you would think they'd immediately write a speculative article wondering if there will be more layoffs to come. I also love how he's implying that 8 people losing their jobs to "redundancies", a job they might have worked at for many years or a decade, isn't newsworthy to them unless it's more people. It doesn't matter to them that people that could have been very good at their work have been cut just because of "redundancies" and are now forced to find more work, I have no idea of the job market there, but getting layoff can be an absolutely horrible experience for people.

It honestly disgusts me how callous he is when talking about "ANN had bigger news to cover" as the reason.
