Random: has anyone ever worked out just where all DSP's money from the boom times went? Is it all sunk in the condo? Like, besides that and his leased BMW, it doesn't seem like his tastes are that expensive. He eats cheap food and drinks cheap booze. He had what, a few thousand dollars' worth of figures and maybe another few thousand of DVDs? He bought plenty of games obviously, but wasn't he formerly in the habit of selling them back to GameStop? In general he seems to overpay for the commonplaces of life, but not to the extent that hundreds of thousands of dollars would go up in smoke. So... what gives?
You know what I kind of love about this? Imagine the cash he would have saved if he had actually put the smallest bit of effort into PC gaming. I'm not the sort of asshole who thinks everyone who owns consoles is stupid, I own some, but by and large PC gaming makes more sense economically for someone who plays games for a living, doesn't it? A good PC can run you maybe 2k nowadays, less if you cut some of the fluff out and just get what you need (cheap case, 8gigs instead of 16 of ram, not bother with an SSD, etc) or go for cheaper options of what you do need. The PC i use for gaming currently is almost 10 years old and still works great for most games and I spent maybe a bit over 1k on it.
If we just look at what consoles ran him since starting:
PS3 20 gig(cheaper option than 60gig): 499$
Xbox 360: 399$
Wii U: 299$
PS4: 399$
Xbox 1: 499$
Switch: 299$
I'm not counting peripherals or the Wii since I don't know what he bought for them or if he had a Wii, but napkin math here, - taxes of course comes out to 2394$ just in consoles. Those are effectively dead for his business once the new consoles come out, unless he plans on being the sort of streamer who hunts down obscure older games for these past consoles, which he's not. HE could take that same money, lets just round up to 2.4k, and have got a fuckin nice rig that would have lasted ages. All he's getting with these consoles are a few console exclusives every gen, and when was the last time he played one of those?
As for games: like above, most games release on PC as well as systems, only a few come to mind that don't, primarily games like NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and I think Fifa. If those are games that are interesting to you, buy a console that has the exclusives that you want and that you'll get mileage out of. The fucker barely plays his Xbox 1, so why have it? Even better, Windows 10 supports most Xbox 1 games now and you can play them if you have the OS installed. Looking at that recently on the Microsoft site, you'll see it's for about 189$ for the home version. Less than the Xbone. Then you have store fronts like steam which have massive fire sales every weekend it seems for games large and small. That and the bounty of indie games that steam is crawling with. This is all assuming that he has his hands tied in legally acquiring the games and doesn't just pirate them for free, which is easy as fuck on PC and literally everyone does.
He claims to have built gaming PCs which i don't think anyone believes, but let's assume he did. He has experience putting this shit together, which isn't particularly hard to do, so why not go to a local computer store, fuck even Best Buy would be able to help him out with this, explain what he needs, what he wants to spend, and even get a refresher on how to put the rig together if he needs to. Literally maybe a couple hours of work here cumulative. The money he would save over the course of years is ridiculous, it's why so many variety streamers shell out for a solid PC.
But I'm making the assumption that he thought about that. I'm making the assumption that this shut in manbaby didn't just take the laziest route possible regardless of money and quality and frankly long term ease, and didn't just latch on to this is what I'm going to do, I'm always going to do it.
Like I said, I'm not the sort of guy who looks down on console owners. To me, it makes sense that if you aren't big into games, or are only interested in certain games on a certain console, buy the console and enjoy it. I own a PS4 to play with some people like that as well as exclusives I'm interested in. I'm not trying to run a business based around video game streaming though, so what do I know? I'm probably just a mentally ill virgin kid.
At least i know what 8+5 is though.
