I was reminded of the town on the planet Camazotz in Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time.

"And they're all made of ticky tacky, and they all look the same."

Is it autism that makes these special individuals search for social and philosophical messages deeply obfuscated within a television show about talking cartoon ponies manufactured for 8 year old girls? Or is it just a lack of meaning in their lives?

Surprisingly good grammar and syntax for Chris. Is he getting better?

yeah yeah, bring on the Optimistic ratings

That was my first impression too, because the equality people seem to not like the main characters. They seemed creepy, and making a statement that supporters of LBGTQ are creepy would be a BALLSY AS FUCK move. So I'm thinking they're going with the "everyone is the same" idea.
I expect rage on Facebook when this airs and the "Equality Village" is defeated or something.

I work with a brony and his defense is, apparently, "the writers of the show are aware of the adult following and are making the show more sophisticated for the adult viewers, so it's not technically a kids show anymore", I shit you not.

Quite some level of sophistication, having brightly colored ponies with cookie-cutter stereotype characters discover the 'true meaning of friendship' ie: sugarcoated timewasters for children with superficial, overused morals.

I love that bronies always try to rationalize and explain why they like the show even when no one asked. If you like a kiddie program about horses hugging each other and having feelings, then fine Trying to explain why you do like it like some self-satisfied post grad student is not necessary. You're still watching a kiddie program about horses hugging and having feelings, ya freaks.

Oh they know about the gregariously obnoxious culture of loud adults who watch the show. They just don't give a shit as long as they have ponies being bought at KB toys. It's just fantasy to think that the producers of the show would suddenly change their content demographic to match the adults who watch the show. Bronies who champion the idea of Hasbro putting in subversive messages and morals pertaining to adult sexuality already seem to have the minds of children, so why change?

Lol, more like the opposite is true: they added a mentally challenged cross-eyed pony to make it more relatable to the autistic adult fanbase. Chris is a major fan of the character, if I recall correctly.
Not really.

The cross eyed pony was actually an animator's in-house gag for a three-second sequence in the first episode. Originally, there was another pony in front of the cross-eyed one but a last-minute repositioning left the eyes visible without anybody noticing. While the budding fandom at the time latched onto the pony purely because it was a cross eyed horse, the animation staff turned her into a "where's waldo" kind of thing in the background as a fun little thing to acknowledge the fans.

Then Derpygate happened back in 2012 when they actually had the character's name stated and even the pony herself voiced, causing a minor shitstorm due to a bunch of idiots and Tabitha St. Germain admitting she hadn't known those lines were for a female (she said they were based on a little boy who lived in her neighborhood). The episode was subsequently pulled and re-edited to basically censor Derpy, and the character wouldn't show up in a promiment role until two seasons later, but even then she is no longer to be addressed by name nor be allowed to talk.

That being said...

Nah, I expect the whole "Equality Village" is going to turn out to be some Stepford Wives esque mindfuckery. Not like for much of the show's run, people kept thinking Rainbow Dash's tomboyish attitude and rainbow coloration made her secretly butch or something.

Sure, they put in little nods to the older viewerbase here and there such as Derpy, or in one S4 episode outright Slenderman making a non-sequir background cameo for no reason, but beyond that the show is not being written to appeal to exclusively the older audience. Faust's initial gameplan was to make a girl's show that didn't treat its audience as drooling morons and was instead something the parents who would have to watch the show with their kids could have a little fun with the occasional adult joke (I.E. In one episode it's psuedo-lampshaded that Mr. Cake is not the father of his newborn twin children because they aren't the same kind of ponies as their parents...by Mr. Cake himself). Why on Earth would the show start being written more towards the wrong demographic than its target audience when it was fine the way it was in getting both groups to watch it by just being a decently written show? Especially when I doubt it was only the adult fanbase that pushed MLP into being Hasbro's current "Billion Dollar" franchise as of this week's New York Toyfair (read: MLP IS NOW MORE PROFITABLE THAN TRANSFORMERS).

But to tie it all back to the topic at hand...no, this isn't going to put ponies into being ballsy and saying something about LBGTQ subjects just because of what uses an "=" sign. Hasbro went into panic mode when a tiny amount of people lost their shit over what was nothing more than a harmless nod to the fans by giving Derpy a name and voice over accusations of negatively portraying a "mentally challenged" character. Kicking the exponentially larger hornet's nest of LBGTQ subjects when their star franchise is at the top of the world will bring it crashing down from a wave of controversy. Not a good move to make since Hasbro has also confirmed "My Little Pony: The Movie" for a 2017 release (and no, it doesn't appear to just be another Equestria Girls, either)

This makes more sense. I clicked on a trailer link and all I saw was just basic cartoon stuff and I couldn't imagine how he got to his conclusion. It looked like he was coming up with all this stuff out of nothing.

Never forget: Everything -- and I do mean EVERYTHING -- you see, hear and read is
a) secretly about Mayor CWChristina struggles against da twolls.
b) made by twolls as a cruel mockery and dark parody.

Yep, leave it to Chris and a bunch of people to put commentary on a kids show that has absolutely nothing to do with the issues they want to raise.

Seriously. The horror stories I hear from parents who bring their kids to actual MLP conventions meant for kids and 20-30 year old men are there, creepily, clamoring and bugging the voice actors.

I legitimately wonder if people realize just how creepy it is to be obsessed over animated ponies to this degree. I mean, I know Chris doesn't, but you think someone would find the light switch in their head at some point. :/

You realize a lot of it is fabricated, right?

I mean, I'm a 4channer of /co/ (who saw the inception of the fandom), I won't deny there's loads of autism in MLP and the conventions are full of spaghettis, but I've also seen lots of autism against it (Tumblrina saying "it's stealing my show for little girls, and underage facebookers because they see ponies on TF2/Cawaduty making groups dedicated to hating it) making tons of shit up, and I hoped this place wouldn't dwelve into that.

And Brony spergs all around the world will rejoice about this incredibly innovative twist and accuse everyone who dislikes it for not understanding the 2deep4u messages and the important life lesson of not being a dick.

I've watched episodes of MLP and I can tell you without any doubt that it's written with little girls in mind. The stories are simple and easy to digest with the message of being nice to each other. It's not complex nor is it worthy of the insane fandom. And yet ponyfags are totally into it because it's soft, pretty and lets not kid ourselves here, they want to bone one of the characters.

Adult watching a show aimed at pre-teens and getting so invested that you try to decipher it and seek hidden meaning? Grow the hell up.

When I was watching Dr. Seuss with my little cousins I was shocked to see that his cartoons had political messages in them (i.e - Snitch/Segregation, Zax/Korea & Vietnam, Horton/Hiroshima, etc). It was pretty fun going through my old Seuss books, that I got when I was 4, and try find the references to real life.

I'm not so sure about this actually. I went to an anime con a while back and some of the things I saw would not have been out of place in a 4Chan cringe thread.

No wonder Chris is obsessed with it. He can understand the themes and the way the morals pan out ( -> be nice and good things happen to you) is also in accordance with how he wishes the world in general would work.
It seems he's fond of Derpy pony cause she's a lovable retarded challenged special individual (the way he'd love to be seen as) and he seems to adore ...uh... that flying pony with the rainbow hair (since that's the way he'd like to be)... come to think about it, maybe he had a slinky on his head at the LGBT picnic cause that was his cargo-cult rainbow mane.
Either way, his attraction to the show most likely originates from the ponies being easily discernable in design and personality and they offer a pleasant way to kill some time...

So basically it's non-threatening, mindless fun and a gateway to entry-level furfaggotry?
Not like I'd approve of this, but it's not like I give much of a crap either.
