Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.

You have to respect made up pronouns and they don't have the foresight to see that policy being abused.
The internet just wouldn't be the internet if we don't see half the accounts now wanting to be addressed as "panty moistener" and "apache helicopterself"

Stack Overflow not backing down on their personal pronouns enforcement
The dumbasses never do once they drink the kool-aid. Suddenly all criticism and disagreement is "bigotry" and "harassment." Handy way of ignoring dissent.

It's all so tiring. StackOverflow has long had a "shitty mods and power users" problem but this will add a whole new level of douchebaggery to the mix. Can't wait until they run everyone off the site except the dangerhairs and pajeets.

Oh, well, too bad. Now where will I go when I need to pretend to be able to program?

One of the founders (CodingHorror) is a megafag so no suprise that this shit went down.
A while back he complained that the goal wasn't just to answer the question but to create an artefact that would help future coders. Oblivious to the fact that the reason this constantly happened was that mods shut down anything even vaguely "off topic" or "too broad".
He hasn't been staff for a long time but I just want to illustrate that this cancer has been here from the beginning.

I think the general design of stack overflow in that respect was a good thing. It's not just a meandering forum thread. We've got plenty of those. It's specifically "how do I do X?" Oh, "you do X, Y and Z". It's fair to trim down off topic conversations.

I think that's perfect for what stack overflow is trying to be and it fulfills a really useful niche online.

I just want to see someone create an open source Q&A board clone of stack overflow because it's obvious they can't be trusted with corporate stewardship of the site/concept.

This is some funny shit. Just went to Physics Stack Exchange to find out some objective factual science shit and right there in the sidebar is an apology to the LGBtranny community and a thing about gender pronouns. Like fuck?

What's next - you gotta learn about girldick before you can use Matlab?

We will be adding anti-evil clauses to all free open source software licenses that require you to certify that your point of view is compatible with the software author's world view. Open source, after all, is a progressive field and it is important every participant follows progressive ideology against fascism, ICE and TERFs.

Hacker news! You can also pretend to be a very important engineer at a Big Tech Company(tm) there too as an added bonus! Note: no technology is discussed.

I don't mean pretending ON the site, I mean pretending irl by just looking up any incredibly basic thing I don't know how to do. It used to be useful for that and now it's just going to be troons who are even more useless than I am at that shit.

For what it's worth, I've seen some seriously bad code presented on that site as a solution to a problem with no one offering corrections. Stuff that's bad (or dangerous) to put into production. What you'll typically find on SO is pajeet-quality. Of course now it'll be pajeet- and troon-quality, which is far worse.

I wonder if the helpful autists will reappear somewhere else. It seems like a helpful autist thing to do.
Their entirely faggotrocious insistence on calling the legbutts "the lavender community" is stupid as all hell. Does anyone else literally anywhere do this? I have only ever seen this turn of phrase on SE and it's somehow even more grating than morons talking about being kweer.

What really bugs me is that there's no place for tech that isn't flooded by either troons, pajeets or virtue-signaling soyboy webdevs that feel nothing wrong with a text editor needing 4 GBs of RAM and who won't shut up about their Macbook and Elon Musk. You know the type. Some /techs/ on some image boards here and there sometimes have their moments but there's also lots of noise.

It's even worse when other people who are equally as wrong agree with the bad solution and give it an air of legitimacy.

Which is why you write in a language which has an actual barrier to entry

His overall idea was in the right place: have Q&A with a voting system instead of reading through pages of forum threads. (The same actually applies to the Lolcow Wiki. It's a lot easier to make a forum reply but a lot more time consuming and informative to organize information)

There are niche forums and mailing lists but they have the opposite problem where they can be really hostile and unwelcoming to (good-faith) newbies.

What's worse is that all this focus on woke CoC stuff detracts from actual issues in tech, like the increasing web centralization and corporate influence. All this focus on female CEOs and pronoun games does absolutely nothing for the end user who then gets screwed over by ever-intruding advertisement, data collection, and websites software built on frameworks that get slower and more bloated by the hour. The whole industry is a masturbatory endeavour, just look at the top tech startups and count how many of them are about marketing and how many actually improve the life of a real human being.

I'm all for making the computer department less of sausage party but when it's one of the bleakest places to work in, with the highest turnover rate and nothing of value to show for it, maybe you should reconsider your priorities.

It's easier to have shitty hiring decisions and just hire incompetents who check off the right boxes than actually make a workplace somewhere women would want to work in the first place. And even if you did optimize the workplace, what if women just don't want to do [thing] in the first place? Force them to?
