Star Trek - Space: The Final Frontier

Yep. Have you seen the TNG movies? There's a reason why the character doesn't act like TNG Picard. Stewart wanted to be an action guy. He wanted a dune buggy in Nemesis, in STPicard he has a baby-killer dog instead of a horse, because Stewart is a pro pit bull activist.

But seriously the director of Nemesis was a friend of Patricks and knew how much he was into IRL dune buggies and put a dune buggy in

whats weird is given Marina's past at Canon why she kept letting Troi get raped

I figured that was more due to hollywood, you can't just put a TNG episode on the big screen for 90 minutes, else you end up with something like insurrection.
his other big role is professor X which has even less action.

either way I don't expect much from the series. cbs wants GOT in space to sell their shit, nor can their woke diversity writers whose first star trek was probably jjtrek do the character justice

Stewart is a pro pit bull activist.

isn't he kinda of a lefty?

Maybe Picard will visit all the places he visited in TNG and apologize for being a white human male, only to be told to shut up by the black female lead now and then.

There's no way this show is gonna be good. The place it grew out it just isn't. It's like burying apple seeds in a desert area directly into the sand and being surprised you don't get delicious and juicy red apples as a result. There's just no framework. Maybe we shouldn't have taken the rampant rape (statutory and otherwise) and coke out of the entertainment biz. Maybe they needed that to come up with good stories.

Also the Actors are in it for the money, and if not for the money then for the vanity. Actors are an incredibly vain lot. I always liked Patrick Stewart because he's a charismatic guy and pleasant to listen to but if you ever heard him talk any stretch of time and are entirely honest to yourself you'll notice that he's pretty full of himself. I mean yeah, he played a pop culture icon in one of the best decades of western pop culture but in the end of it all, all he ever was is an actor. Same for Brent Spiner which I 100% remember saying (when he was a lot younger too) that he's getting too old to play an "ageless" android and that it's time to put that role to rest. So much for that I guess. Also such known actors tend to be surrounded by yes-men and bootlickers. They might not even be aware how bad the show is. If somebody follows you around all day and declares your every fart a "craft masterpiece" that tends to happen. Happened to George Lucas too. If you research good old TV shows you'll often find that most of them had quite a lot of conflict behind the scenes which helped the shows to grow. This is true for TNG too. I could imagine that's also lacking in a vanity project like this.

Also Stewart looks decrepit in some of the scenes and like he's confused to be there. You always have to imagine these are the good scenes, they don't show the cut ones. The less is said about how Spiner looks, the better. (and he would've been so easy to replace while keeping the character, too! They could've even changed his gender in their woke campaign and it would've been all easily explainable) A show that makes such choices and tries to run off nostalgia fumes is never going to be good.

EDIT: me spell poorly

Actors will trend with whatever is politically correct/trendy/shallow, those that don't know better than to voice their opinions.

Anything right on the spectrum of sean penn ranting on US policies as if he was an elected official will get you trouble getting casted.

Sorry for the rant I'm watching season 2 of discovery and I'm in a pissy mood.

I'm betting they persuaded him by promising him they would use state-of-the-art de-aging SFX that have been invented since he said that. The joke is on him from the looks of it.

Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan hated each other during the entire run of VOY and years after the end of the show and it's only recently that they decided to make peace. I wonder if Mulgrew did that so she could also star on the Picard spin-off.

well, he's a bong and done shakespeare, kinda comes with the territory. but his bits in extras back then and doing family guy/american dad don't make him look like he think he's good's gift to acting and star trek etc. is beneath him. he's definitely aware what type of character he played and what kind of fans it attracts.
some actors also (at least in part) keep doing a role for the fans. no idea how active he was on the convention circle, if he still did it regularly even when he didn't really have to (being one of the few with somewhat of a career) is a good indicator if he's not just in for the money.

just random thoughts tho, personally I try to enjoy the role/music/book/etc as is. knowing what kind of wanker the person behind it is would just drag it down. ignorance is bliss.

to be fair almost everybody hated each other on VOY, which is one of the reasons it's such a mess.
didn't they make up long before before STD was even a thing? and considering mulgrew seems to be on the cunty side it's questionable if she would even come back for janeway anyway.

yeah, they usually tend to be more liberal because MUH ARTS etc, but the whole pitbull thing is kinda the opposite of that. or maybe it's just my prejudices.

Sorry for the rant I'm watching season 2 of discovery and I'm in a pissy mood.

why would you do that to yourself...?!

The show tends to have that effect on a lot of people. I used to rage during the first two seasons, now I just get sad when I see the Short Treks.

Brent Spiner did give us this gem.

Galaxy Quest is pretty much an unofficial Star Trek movie.

No other movie has surprised me more than Galaxy Quest, I remember my mom rented it once and I begrudgingly watched it with her, thinking it was going to be lame because of Tim Allen.

So imagine my surprise when it turned out to be FUCKING GREAT, no other movie has exceeded my expectations to that degree.

I saw Patrick Stewart when he came to Calgary Comic Expo, he didn't wabt to talk Star Trek (Why people knew him) but wanted to talk about his theater career (Shakespeare, not cinema), i knew then he couldn't be trusted as far as Star Trek was concerned, now i learned today he was a socialist.
Never, EVER meet one of your hero kids

I knew Discovery was bad, but the 2 or 3 snippets of it in this video alone... Fuck.
Whoever wrote Captain Stronk-Womyn should be beaten to death with a typewriter.

The "He was an idiot" made me recoil from the screen. I shit you not.
Jesus fucking Christ. The saddest bit about STD is that despite everything, the cockmunchers behind it will never lose their jobs, no matter how much they suck at it. A monkey smearing feces on a giant piece of paper could be trusted to write a better script.

I haven't watched anything beyond the first few episodes of STD s1, much less the Short Treks, but even considering contemporary mental illness in mass media, this looks like at least a comedy, or an attempt at satire, right?
The second season is way worse because they saw The Orville and now they're trying to add their own cringe humor into Kurtzman Trek. They have completely misunderstood the appeal of MacFarlane's show.
