What Are The Worst Character Designs You Have Ever Seen?

I think this was an early insertion to represent blind people before the raging AUTISM came on the public stage.

Lol. I'd want this said in front of a bunch of Arnold fans. The batshit reaction.

Velvet from tales of Berseria.

I can't believe this thread has gone on for 21 pages and a year and no one has mentioned Delgo
I mean look at this shit

Some of the designs in girls frontline are pretty bad
Desert_Eagle.png

This is deagle an anthropomorphism of the desert eagle handgun. The desert eagle is a big fucking handgun that fires big fucking bullets so how does one represent that on the design? By making her a loli of course! Yeah, it doesn't really work but most characters in gfl are only loosely based on their firearm so how's the design on it's own?
For starters she looks as if she were to fire her gun her arm would be ripped off by the recoil. Also her clothing is just bad she has an overdose of frills, there are two weird pieces of clothe coming from under her top that simply don't make sense for anything she could be wearing underneath and the top itself simultaneously exposes her tummy and is long enough to be dragged on the floor.

G41 honestly doesn't really pull off the heterochromia and the hair accessories are kinda huge but the overall design is okayish when censored
Ameli.png

Ameli has two major issues:
a) Her hair looks more like a Christmas tree than hair
b) Her top is a mess I get that the artist wanted to show off the balloons he drew as her boobs but the corset-boob holder-shoulder warmer combo just looks dumb. Is a simple low cut shirt too much to ask for?

Yeah. I got definite "Uncanny Valley" Creepiness from the trailer alone.
Kinda surprised how well received it was overall with the audience, even if partially it was because it was touted as the non-SJW female lead counterpart of Captain Marvel. One of these days I'll check it out to see how good it actually is, though none of the trailers have been particularly convincing to me.

Those designs are god-awful and overdone. Battle lolis are almost exclusively the worst characters, worse when they get saddled with oversized weapons. It's the most obvious design idea to the point of lacking creativity.
For the sake of contributing here's another one, though with a less oversized weapon:
1569539068840.png
Edna from Tales of Zestiria
Odd weapons can be excusable, but it shouldn't be a surprise that this girl's a bitch and uses the umbrella to act like a bitch. Plus, she's the little sister bait character. Those dumb oversized boots are her big brother's, and the plushie is a spirit her brother bound to protect her. (no, it doesn't actually do anything in the game except be a shitty OP boss).
Through the game her brother is inexplicably cursed in a dragon form, and in the prequel game his connection with her is completely sidelined and phoned in, and it makes no sense that he would later be cursed and unsaveable.

Her outfit also just generally makes no sense for the era the game is supposedly set in. I hate how it looks like an outfit from the real-life current era if a bit more fantastical.
Presea from Tales of Symphonia

She's the only one in her family who could work and got contracted to cut "sacred" wood. Her growth was halted due to an experiment (the thing on her neck) so it kind of makes sense she's a loli. It's a very simple design that fits the character profile. No giant bows or unnecessary bullshit. It's still anime, but not unbearably so.

>Jace will never explain his justifications for why EGL is tactical and realistic after seeing this
:heart-empty:

Jace I assume is a cow? And what's EGL? I'm still kinda new here
Jace was a character who figured prominently in earlier days around here. He was the leader of the Deagle Nation and involved in a lot of silliness.
EGL is a weeb fashion style "elegant gothic lolita", that frilly dress stuff.

Girl's who are basically anthropomorphic guns? I swear Japan. Everytime it looks like the rest of the world can say "our fetishes are the strangest around" Japan says: "Hold my beer."

This is China's doing. Not that Japan hadn't tried it already with upotte they seem to have opted with giving everyone a school uniform in that tho.

The inexpressive, hyper-simplistic, stiff hipster girl style. Similar to the noodle-armed, cucumber-mouthed Adventure Time style in how little genuine emotion it gets across and how flat and boring it is (likely intentional, given the ukulele hipster's desire to be ironic or at least avoid complete emotional sincerity) - except here, the faces look like they came out of Christian iconography, and instead of being awkwardly rubbery, the anatomy and poses are awkwardly angular and pointy. Yeah I am mainly dunking on Noelle Stevenson here though this old Anita pic also springs to mind.

Noelle's comic Lumberjanes actually wasn't drawn by Noelle outside of the covers. The other artist, Brooke A. Allen, is... actually pretty competent, if you look at her old art. But she had to try and draw in Noelle's awful style, and the final result was a goddamn mess. That comic has some of the ugliest, most incoherent and half-hearted art I've ever seen, with the animal designs showing signs of competence but the humans being the wonkiest shit imaginable. It feels like she drew it all with a gun to her head and secretly hated her job.

OZYCz5T.png

Also note the dumbass mouse hands.

I'm not sure why exactly, but while the "cucumber mouth, noodle limbs" style breaks gender boundaries, I can't think of a single man who draws in this other style. Can't say precisely where it started, but I assume Kate Beaton influenced a lot of artists to draw this way. I won't post her as an example though - as much as I personally dislike her style, I can't say it's irredeemable, especially as of late when she tends to make faces more anatomical and expressive. I get why others would like her stuff, at least; meanwhile the derivatives are pure tripe.

What you pointed out here (quite well, I might add.)... Is pretty much why stuff like Adventure Time / Regular Show (in some cases) / Steven Universe (although I can only hope) / OKKO - Let's Be Heroes (Especially!) are not going to be fondly remembered in the years to come.
THAT's Especially when (not if, WHEN) a proper counter-culture overruns all of these examples - besides more kids & teens turning to anime/manga, due to knowing better than letting themselves be sold cheap stuff.
Even if some people might have liked these examples I've listed, they look and feel too cheap to be remembered fondly and can easily be replaced by something much better looking (even if the writing / characters ain't exactly stellar, either - it just has to look more expressive and articulated, that's all.).

Of all the shows you mentioned, Regular Show is the only one whose art style I can tolerate. It seemed (slightly) more in line with what CN was producing in the late-00s compared to most of the other post-Adventure Time shows.

Pardon my autism for just one moment... Or unpopular opinions here, whatever you call it.

The sad part is I legitimately like 3 out of 4 of those (AT, OKKO, and especially RS!). That doesn't mean they're safe from the valid criticism of the FACT that all of them look and feel unremarkably cheap, character design wise - I admit the backgrounds in each show are alright, but that only means, again, so much....

As for something that's still popular like SU, it has simply no excuse for how unfortunately bad it looks, overall, if I must be brutally fucking honest here. Then again, OKKO looks so much fucking worse than SU/AT/RS combined, so.....

I'm gonna have to throw myself to the lions here and take a shot at defending Kinu Nishimura's design of Solange from Code of Princess.

People tend to post ONE specific picture of her - I won't post it, but it's the one with particularly strange anatomy (the hips especially). But I would generally not call it a terrible design at all. It's a self-aware one that, even in-game, acknowledges the ridiculousness of bikini armor - other characters mock it, and she points out that it's purely decorative fashion. The frills, hair-flowers, cape, everything enforces that.

The game has kind of a conscious theme of bizarre fashion, with "Lady Zozo" obviously being a reference to Lady Gaga and her ridiculous fashion statements. Her design is an intentional clusterfuck, but manages to be held together about as much as you possibly could by its color scheme.

It's some the strangest fucking art Nishimura has ever done, and I completely understand if you prefer her more normal stuff like the Capcom Dungeons & Dragons designs, but this stuff is pretty consciously nuts.
