Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

When did I miss the meeting where it was decided that Dark Empire was shit?
When the EU started, DE and the Thrawn Trilogy represented two different visions of the Star Wars universe. DE and TOTJ were fantasy, Thrawn was military sci-fi. The Thrawn vision won. I think that had as much to the mass market paperbacks being more readily available than comics as it did with their relative quality. Back then it was easier to buy a Bantam paperback (and there were a lot of them) than to hunt down a back issue or find a TPB.

The Prequels also had an effect. In Dark Empire, Vader was a Jedi who was seduced by the Emperor, served him for a couple decades, then broke free of his conditioning to save his son's life. It's a dramatic story, but a very personal one. Vader is forced to make a choice, to acknowledge the spark of light that remained in him or to continue laboring in servitude to the Emperor. Luke and Palpatine can have their own story, without diminishing the importance of that choice. In the prequels, Anakin is Space Jesus, destined to bring balance to the Force or destroy the Sith or something. (It's not very clear even to the Jedi what the prophecy means). This prophecy is the crux of the entire Star Wars Saga for prequel fans. The whole six-movie story is about Anakin destroying Darth Sidious. Anakin's choice at the critical moment--the act of choosing--is almost irrelevant, because he is simply fulfilling his destiny. Palpatine's return ruins Anakin's arc, because it means he didn't fulfill the prophecy and he died for nothing.

Looks like the leaked pics are officially legit as Disney is now panicking and trying to SHUT IT ALL DOWN.

Something is definitely going in Lucasfilm if the employees have no issue with sharing this now. Question is, why are employees leaking shit now instead of before? Is this an underhanded attempt at generating hype? Were the employees under some kind of strict form of consequence that only became inert after the trailer dropped? Were they privileged with a private screening of the film on the night the trailer dropped so now they wanna leak it all?

Anyway, its only a matter of time before Kiwifarms gets another DMCA, this time from Disney itself... Can Null survive?

2D Clone Wars will always be superior to 3D for me. Filoni is an overrated hack and he took five times the screentime to tell the same story as 2D, before meekly surpassing it by virtue of having a lot of time to roll new things out.

Also Ahsoka a shit and Anakin didn't need a fucking padawan.

You see, 2D clone wars came out right before Ep 3, so it was sort of intended to bridge ep 2 and 3 (Order 66 wasnt a thing yet).
But with 3D, with the added established knowledge, you can tell better stories.

I just wished that we could have had the stories of the 3D series with the animation of 2D (not that the 3D was bad, tho).

I seriously believe people on the inside are spoiling shit because they're a part of the old guard Lucasfilm working against the Kennedy loyalists. They're the Hollywood insiders that have been talking to the Fandom Menace this whole time. Some of them may be false flaggers like Jason Ward, but I believe most of them are legit, since we now know all the leaks were true. Even Terminator seems to have the same situation.

When you are constantly shat on and pushed around in the company for being a straight white male, eventually you will grow vengeful of your dumb fuck arrogant superiors and wish nothing less than their complete and utter failure at getting money.

Honestly, I am one of the ones that is completely fine with how the original duel between Vader and Obi-Wan went as it was a big tower of power half machine going against a far past his prime warrior, so it being limited made sense to me.

However, this redo is shockingly good.

it looks ok (for a fan creation), but even if the original was flawed it still works better for me. the video at least doesn't have the over-the-top flailing around with glowsticks like the prequels had, but oh look, conveniently placed barrels for vader to throw around and still more style over substance.
when you start with the OT you learn through luke what the force is able to do over time, and telekinesis was a big point in ESB. for me it felt kinda surprising and cool when vader casually brakes stuff off without even looking, while yoda himself had to focus on it when doing it earlier. and vader using it offensively possibly adds a "damn, never thought of that". it's much better pacing and shows how the powerlevel ramps up. you wanna see what's gonna happen next.

another annoying thing about fights like that that for me the force doesn't turn you into superman. when you're old you're old - but on the other hand your mastery of the force should be on a level it shits all over some dude with a stick. a simple physical confrontation with some forcejumps/push to spice it up is stupid when it should be the other way around. of course you want some amount of flashy effects because 2 dudes trying to mindrape each other isn't that exciting for people to watch, but there must still be better ways than turning yoda into a green rubber ball. it's also adds to the original that it was very subdued in physicality, and more a battle of the minds between 2 expert force users, who also knew each other well enough. especially like you said vader being vader vs an old obi wan.

a good example would be the TOR intro where darach saves satele, having the battlefield awareness while duking it out hard is a great "show, don't tell" (and how bioware managed to pull off in 6 minutes what disney couldn't in hours of fucking movies is still a mystery)

Yeah I agree I always saw it as a formality between them; like a fencing match that gave Vader a chance to gloat. I never got the sense that Obi-Wan was fighting for his life.

Slightly related is another short fan creation that always stuck with me:

eh, it's the very definition of dumbing down a scene. PREVIOUSLY ON STAR WARS!
obi wan only conveying via voice and mimics when speaking of his memories has a much bigger impact than "HERE LET ME SHOW YOU IN CASE YOU FORGOT!". of course you need a good actor for it else it turns into total cheese, but alec guiness nailed it in that scene.

and even when you watched the prequels first, at that moment you'll remember what you think was most important and memorable, which is probably totally different for most people than showing how anakin turns into charcoal (which is borderline comedy in that context).
but then ambiguity is a lost art and mainly used to cover plot holes these days.

One thing that struck me rewatching ANH was how Alec Guinness played Ben like he had PTSD with all those pauses and faraway looks he gets and it just fits all the shit he went through as Obi Wan to a tee.

I would agree considering for how long we've been getting these leaks. But I'm befuddled as to why we're seeing so many pictures now. Before I don't think any major pics were leaked, just the bottles of Tatooine sand and Exogol dirt, a lot of verbal information and poorly made drawings of scenes (like Rey, Kylo and the throne). But now after the trailer drops there's a sudden flood of new pictures and spoilers and even Disney is forced to start cracking down. Why are these coming out only now instead of before? Why didn't they post pictures before the trailer? I wouldn't be surprised if they leak the whole movie at some point, but what kept them from doing so before the trailer?

My paranoia and cynicism immediately jump to it being an intentional campaign by the rat, JJ's or KK's squad.

If they don't have confidence in the movie, they can point to leaks as to being part of it's underperforming. If a portion of the leaks are disinformation they can lower expectations while also decry the leaks as misogynist trolls lying. Hell, it may just be part of a spat between Bad Robot and Lucasfilm.

stroke that broke the camels back maybe? I mean disney managed to piss even normies off (or at least make them indifferent). and being on the inside they're more aware of shit going down so maybe they don't give a fuck anymore or it's trying to dish out some revenge when they know they'll be canned after EP9 when it inevitable bombs.

I'm not so sure I think it's more infighting than anything else.

There's apparently something about not having the TV stuff tie into any of the movies because they want them to be their own separate thing which is what the marvel stuff had and it's a new rule for star wars. They're in the process of transitioning the teams it seems. The people who are to take control have an entirely different mindset than the current team, I mean for one they're actual nerds and how they did the marvel movies was probably the best you could ask for with comic books. Marvel is in a state of disarray because they can't build up anything big yet due to the Fox Acquisition still requiring a shitload of lawyers to figure shit out. Marvel's next big deal is the X-Men and you can't have another property compete with it in the MCU, it's the main event. So all the movies coming out can't be these decade spanning epics that build shit up, they have to be maybe one movie and a sequel at most. So Marvel is going to get forgettable movies for awgile, outside of another Guardians of the galaxy.

I think the story and lore crew are gonna get the axe first along with the marketers. A numbered Star Wars film bombing is unheard of, the prequels didn't even manage that. Episode 9 would be a major black eye for Disney, something that would forever tarnish the company's whole image.

As if shit wasn't bad enough with Star Wars, now Disney has to fuck over the entire classic Fox library and throw it in the Disney Vault forever with the exception of Rocky Horror Picture Show for some reason. Oh well... Being locked in the vault is a more merciful fate than what SW got. Unless of course this is their attempt at erasing the past so they can make remakes/reboots...

"Let the Past die. Kill it if you have to."

Also fuck you Iger and your useless buyouts.

Trust me, I don't doubt for a second that there's infighting going on. I've been saying it for ages that Lucasfilm is probably a cesspit of drama and they want to screw each other over. Question IS why they didn't post pictures before if they hated each other so much? They posted leaks and info, but now they're actually posting pictures. So why didn't they post pics with past leaks? Only other pic I can think of was the costume leak and the storyboards, but they weren't footage from the actual film... Is it possible that JJ was the only one allowed to look at it during editing which is why we're seeing it now? Now that editing and reshoots are over the crew was allowed a sneak preview? Or were employees under some kind of strict observation? Or is it what @WaltherPPGAY said which I'm very inclined to believe.
