Are you saying because IGN doesn't like it that means it's bad? Or are you saying multiple people are saying it's bad? Because everything I've seen is 50/50. Most people seem to think the gameplay is boring but the story is stellar. Either way, I'm getting it, willing to see a unburdened Kojima let loose. Always been a fan of story heavy games over most others.

Dave will play this. He'll shit on it, he'll shit on Kojima then at the end he'll say he either liked it or gets why people do. Did with every Kojima game so far, don't see the trend breaking now.
It looks bad to me. Story looks okay, but I'd rather read the spoilers on the plot than play the game.

I mention IGN because IGN gave WWE2K20, legit one of the most broken games of all time, 4.3/10. So for this game to get 6.8 is their equivalent of a thumbs down.

But this game looks terrible to me, and I like MGS games. It's been a while since I've played them though.
I'd bet everyone has enjoyed a game with a poor review score. If you're interested in it get it and come to your own decision. If not no big deal. Personally been interested about Death Stranding and would have picked up a copy no matter the Metacritic score.

Phil has locked himself in a prison where he is almost forced to buy every AAA game even if he knows he'll hate it in advance and pass up games he actually seemed interested in because they're "niche" and he thinks they won't bring in money.

I think he's now only partly locked into that.
Sometimes, he'll play a game he wants to play that isn't really "AAA", but refuse to admit that is why he is playing it (WWE, Plants vs. Zombies), while avoiding some AAA releases because he doesn't really want to play them, but refuses to vocalize that and instead comes up with weird reasons like "Well, nobody said it was a 'game of the year' contender..."
He'll also avoid indie games that people ask for, then play one and scold people for never wanting to see indie games. Some, he'll dodge because 'nobody cares about indie games'.
Sometimes he'll play AAA games day one and screech about how people need self control and not watch early adopters, sometimes he'll screech that they should wait for reviews, and other times, screech that people need to ignore reviewers and judge for themselves.

Phil's problem with game selection has become his hypocrisy. His standards are erratic and nonsensical. Everything he says contradicts some supposed deeply held value he had previously expressed. In reality, there are two criteria - first, will the game damage his ego in some capacity, or will the game stroke it. And second, how much money is he thinking he can make off it.

If it strokes his ego but may not make money, he'll play it and blame his audience for being apathetic. If it hurts his ego but makes money, he'll do it only if he feels can make enough money (ie. Dark Souls). He'll get salty and clown it up to cover, but he'll take the money on the table. If it hurts his ego and makes insufficient money, he will avoid it (most fighting games), but will make up as many cover reasons as he can. And if it strokes his ego and makes money, we'll put it in the 'chill stream' rotation on an endless loop until money falls off. No matter what he chooses, he dresses it up like some moral high ground.

Yeah this year especially may be the most erratic his schedules every been. He'll avoid something like Code Vein, which in theory would bring in money, but pick up Dragon Quest Builders because one guy paid to walk him through Minecraft. Then he spend the summer replaying games nobody has any interest in and more recently played some SNES games for seemingly no reason. Then some games he'll only play if they're paid for ahead of time with credits. He's been all over the place this year for whatever reason.

Phillbert is just throwing stuff at the wall, seeing what shit sticks and brings him the most money for the least amount of effort and damage to his ego

i've always assumed if its stupidly exceptional, like so fucking exceptional someone would never admit to it that dsp must be telling the truth. why would someone admit to paying so much for a forum that hosts 10 people when he's supposedly constantly in debt
Literally ego, because he wants to pretend even on the weak-ass level that he's a big boy business on the internet and at the time a lot of those had their own sites.

I wouldn't be surprised if he loves Death Stranding. Game is a walking sim with tons of cutscenes and those are generally his favorite games. Unless he really struggles with the bosses and combat (very very possible we know how he is) this is gonna be one of his favorite games of the year.

Even the good reviews pretty much say the actual gameplay sucks but Kojima so 10/10. I'm gonna just watch a youtube vid of the story personally.

He does like to be a contrarian, but he hates Kojima. He also likes to fake "changing" by praising something or someone he used to shit on all the time. It could go either way and the deciding factor, like everything else in Phil's life, will probably be how much money he makes.

Hullo everyone! Dave's halloween stream inspired me to make some fanart.

Discord's harder to control flow of info, and is new unlike the older forums like cinemassacre and so on that Pig spergtastically mimicked poorly. That and Pig is stupidly autistic and fixated on doing the same thing over and over again until he finally spends himself to death (despite making 100k+ a year).

I agree 100%. Boring ass walking sim with an impossible to lose difficulty setting means this is Dave's GOTY.

You're underestimating how bad he is at games at a fundamental level, and how easily he gets confused by too many mechanics and item-based dynamics in video games. He can't sneak for shit, he complains about too much traveling in open-world games, and even in easy games he gets flustered by challenges involving enemies or puzzles.

I'm predicting he'll be handheld throughout majority of Death Stranding, he'll bitch and moan about the combat or the boss challenges, he'll whine constantly and ask for help, and then at the end he'll say it's a great game and never return to it ever again.

It's a masterpiece!

Also, anyone else think Dave is a character straight out of Ayn Rand's shitty shitty abortion of a book "Atlas Shrugged"?
He has money, but he's evil, there's no real backstory. He's here now, but he could just fuck off tomorrow and the plot moves on like he was never there. There's an odd amount of depth to specific portions of his life for no real reason, yet any exposition that would make us feel for this character she completely forgot to write.

I'd say Phil is more like a Phillip K Dick or even George Orwell character.

A man growing up in the heart of the American dream, lands a nice job and enjoys his wacky futuristic fighting games to the applause of fans using the futuristic interweb, so much so he can start to earn a living on this wild and zany medium. Then he accrues huge amounts of debt trying to keep up this life he's become accustomed to on the teat of cheap / disposable interweb entertainers. His life becomes a slow downward spiral, his life imploding as the glitz and glamor of the brave new world of opportunity becomes his cage, his hobby now his rock to forever push up a hill while begging for help rather than enjoying applause. All the while his friends have left him and he now remains alone to play videogames for change to keep his head above water, everything he wanted to be and yet the most miserable fucking person.
