When I was a kid, I wanted to be an engineer, a nurse, a psychologist, an historian, an astronaut, a model. It was until much later when I decided my career*. My parents didn't pander to each of my pseudo-callings as soon as I opened my mouth. It was the same for my sister. The only one who was consistent about his career since he was a kid was my brother. There are cases in which people end up being what they wanted to be as a child, but there aren't many cases and it's not the norm. Just leave children being children. Support and encourage, but don't manipulate them.


*ETA: Now I think about it, most of those happened because I saw something on tv that made me say "omg, that's cool, I wanna be that!". Yes, children adn teenagers are that easy to influence. It's not necessarily wrong.

I actually wanted to be Jason vorhees when I was kid, but my babysitter took the sisscors from me before I could cut more than just her hair.

I’ve been lurking since the Yaniv debacle went mainstream but with this item I felt the need to share my experience and perspective. I got up to speed on this trainwreck with much personal reflection given that I enthusiastically came out into the gay scene in my late teens but have since (mostly) left it.

This is definitely sexual and wrong. Sure some people find acceptance and a “second home” in the gay scene after they’ve been rejected from their family, but it’s mostly about finding sex and partying.

When you come into the scene as “young blood” your body becomes an instant target. I was good friends with a 16 year old and knew 13 and 14 year olds in the scene and they got as much or more attention than me as a slim, young-looking 18. I don’t think gay men are much different than straight men in this regard but the issue is when you’re out in the gay scene you are basically implying you are here to have sex with other men and those looking for something young will act.

The difference between the younger friends I had and Desmond is that they came into the scene through their own volition AND post puberty. Even though Desmond has been dragged into this shit by his mother the sexual message is still there and predators take notice.

Add in drugs and everything gets even crazier. When you start taking meth you temporarily become a sex addict and your judgement is definitely impaired. If you had thrown this ghoulish kid in the room when I was on a meth, g and cialis binge I would have unquestionable been sexually interested and I knew a handful back in my day who would have definitely taken action. Plus the kid is going to be curious about drugs and someone on meth in poor judgement will oblige him. He’s hanging around with Alig a known meth user so I wouldn’t be suprised if this has already happenned or will so soon.

This whole situation is not good for children and its also not good for gays. I’m not sure if I’ll ever again go to a gay bar (probably) or bathhouse (hopefully not) but I don’t want it to be raided after the societal backlash over this insanity occurs.
