Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I've already said this before, but aside from the increase in furbaiting my main issue is the repeated usage of concepts and design origins when there's still so much of both the animal kingdom and of myths/legends that aren't even touched yet. It's fine when it's similar creatures but distinctly different species and designs. Ariados and Galvantula are both spiders, but have different secondary typings and they are clearly based on different species of spiders. Stuff like that is perfectly okay.

But then you get into things like Whimsicott and Eldegoss. Two supportive Grass types (the former gained Fairy later) based on cotton. Slurpuff and Alcremie. Two pure Fairy types based on cream-related dessert. That's where it gets rather repetitive.

Not to start shit here either, but I think it has something more to do with the fact that the art style is becoming more round.

Like, let me give an example:

I think Nidoking is a great example for this - To the left you've got Gen 1's official art and current artwork for the poison rabbit (and yeah, he's a rabbit, that's what the asethetic was for the Nido lines) If you look at the horns and claws, you can see that the older version has more jagged and rough edges to it, meanwhile the right version has a more rounder shape.

The right has a much cleaner look, and the rounder shape is actually playing off of a psychological aspect of rounder shapes, it gives off a much more friendly and approachable design. It's part of the reason why people take to Wooloo actually, despite it's extremely simple design:

Here's the thing that we need to consider, and that's how pokemon's demographic slowly shifted from pre-teens to kids, and let's face it, that is a different kind of demographic, as well as it being a much more broad.
Again, designs have changed to be a lot more 'softer':

Stuff like fangs and claws have dulled a little bit. Fur has become a lot smoother.

That isn't to say that those elements aren't there, but they're a lot less prominent.

And there's nothing wrong with rounder designs either, just pointing out a possibility as to why you're feeling this way.
Despite the art shift Lapras and Nidoking still have their beastly designs. I feel the shift is due more to what art style is popular at the time. 90’s anime had more sharp edges and current anime goes for a more softer look. They can’t keep that dated style forever without it becoming stagnant and forever stuck in the 90’s. Hell Clefairy was originally going to be the mascot before Pikachu became popular and that was one of the cutest designs of the Kanto bunch.

I feel like people forgot the 90’s Pokemon craze that swept the world. Kids did not care whether or not the old school Pokemon look more natural. They just loved the designs because they were cool and toys flew off the shelves. By Gen 3 all those kids grew older and became teenagers. I think that is what some of the resentment towards that gen and beyond is coming from. I don’t know about other parts of the world but the Pokemon fad actually died long before GSC came out in the US where I lived. Even the GSC designs got a ton of flak when they were new. I remember someone online complaining a very long time ago that they looked too kiddy and I have seen a small handful of people claim that the region was just a dumping ground for rejected Kanto designs.

Also can the Gen 1 and two fanboys make up their minds on whether the new Pokemon are simple shapes or overly complicated Digimon looking monsters with unnecessary doodads sticking out of them?

In an ironic retrospective sense, there's technically some truth to that. Several Johto mons were meant to be in the first gen but were left out due to constraints and then later put in G/S.

There's also the conspiracy theory that Munna was supposed to be in Gen one because of an NPC in the game describing it in dialogue

As we know from the Gold and Silver demo many designs were trashed for Johto and then reused years later like Leafeon and Tangrowth so this wouldn't be surprising. It's a shame because some of the designs they trashed for Gold and Silver looked really good.

So based on recent leaks, the GTS has been removed. You’ll likely have to pay for it in home.

If GTS is removed this game will crash and burn.

Hell yeah man, I think a Kyonshi pokemon would kick all kinds of ass. Seriously, chinese hopping vampire panda bear - That just screams awesome.

...

Actually that's a good question, considering the hype for all the beta pokemon, it raises the question why GF didn't try to make those an actual thing in games? Heck, I'm willing to bet if they did put those pokemon into SwSh, people wouldn't be complaining as much about designs.

Are you fucking kidding? The GTS was an amazing feature, and friend codes eat ass. Wonder Trade was great. I'm going to be really disappointing if that's actually cut. :heart-empty:

Well, it probably won't be cut... You'll just have to pay for the BS nintendo stuff for the switch.

Forcing people to exchange friend codes before trading removes the random, spontaneous nature of the GTS. Anyone could trade with anyone, and that's what made it function as a global trading system. You could throw up a reasonable-ish trade and have it snapped up in a few minutes by a rando. I filled out almost all of my living dex that way. Friend codes are clunky at best and a barrier to entry at worst. There's no point of a "friend" list if everyone goes to Reddit or Discord to exchange codes with strangers.

Wonder trade is in, and you can do it locally too if you go to conventions and such.

Wonder Trade was used by a lot of players to get rid of breeding rejects/extras and I doubt Surprise Trade will be any different, The loss of the GTS is really going to hurt players trying to complete the Galar Regional Dex since it was easy to get missing ‘mons.
I already knew that GTS will have to be cut or at least modified even before sw/sh was announced.

Never used it like I haven't really used the national dex
The easiest way to fix the GTS was making it so that you couldn’t request a Pokemon who’s gender/level isn’t unnatural, prevent people from asking for GTS-blocked Legendaries, and ban “show-off” trades.

The GTS helped me out so much, but it needs to be fixed. There's no point in looking because there are hardly any fair trades. They should have a function that filters out the people who want legendaries.

Hello! As a representative of many of the Pokemon fan, I would like to convey the gratitude of the Pokemon game software that everyone is who always developed. Unfortunately, there is a hard fact that not all fans agree with every decision, but anyway, fans love Pokémon game software and what titles will they bring to the world every time? I think that there are many people who are excited just to imagine what new Pokemon and characters can meet. Certainly there are a lot of opposition voices, and I think there are times when it is difficult, but remember that the voice is not the opinion of all fans. Finally, the Pokemon series is still attractive for children around the world. And there are many children who are looking forward to the release of the Pokemon sword shield and many fans who have grown up.

Yeah I agree but I knew that it getting axed was in the realm of possibility.

Honestly he isn't completely wrong, hell I even agree with him on some points. But he honestly does sound like was being swarmy though.

Holy shit Joe, He should just crucify himself already with the guilt he bears as a """Representative""" of the pokemon """community""" it's obviously too great for him to handle running a website that that people mostly use to check pokemon locations.

Yeah...I wouldn't dare associate with the pokemon fandom as a whole, let alone call myself a "representative" of it.

Both sides are equally annoying and stupid. But fun to laugh at.
