A lot of the time it's usually because testosterone triggers receding hairline - Male / Female pattern hair-loss . I guarantee the short shaved look is so common because nothing will trigger the panic and depression in a woman like hair loss will. It's easier to ignore it when you've got little to no hair, or very short hair, because you're not as likely to find strands everywhere. Out of sight, out of mind.

Secondly, a lot of them are so insecure about how the world will judge them and immediately clock them that they can't bring themselves to go outside, let alone to a barber, so they do it themselves.
