IGN gave Jedi Fallen Order a 9/10 and it has a decent Metacritic score. I don't know if it's a good game or overhyping a mediocre game, but I'm still going to wait until it's at least 30 before considering buying it.
I don't trust IGN for shit when it comes to reviews, but Metacritic is more reliable imo. But a decent Metacritic score is not surprising. Most were already saying beforehand that at best the game would be an average Force Unleashed ripoff or a generic action game in the same vein as Prince of Persia or Uncharted that played it safe as fuck with nothing really unique or innovating which seems to be the case. However it bothers me to no end how no "pro-reviewers" and journos are bothering to talk about how shitty the graphics are.
So we have Tattooine, not Tattooine 1, and Not Tattooine 2......
And instead of Moisture Farms its Vapor Farms, instead of Jawas its Offworld Jawas and instead of standard Trandoshans we get humanoid Trandoshans. It feels off. Like why not just use the regular names and appearance? Why not just have regular Jawas and Tatooine? Or if it can't be Tatooine why not use an underused or rarely used world from a past piece of media that actually feels unique instead of making a Tatooine knockoff?
On a side note, one very minor thing that bugs me (that's not that big of a deal but still something I'd like to share) is the implication that Yoda's species remains in a defenseless infantile state for what might be hundreds of years since the baby in the show is already said to be 50 years old. That seems awfully annoying and hazardous to be stuck in a perma-baby stage for over 100 or 200 years while only having a lifespan of about 900. It makes you more vulnerable to threats and its not exactly convenient for a number of reasons. Again the baby of the Yoda species might work better for me if they just left the age unknown and try to avoid any and all mention of its species and purpose aside from maybe revealing who its parents are. Also I keep seeing people claim this kid is Yoda's reincarnation even though it was born 20 years before the prequels. An interesting twist though would be that it was Yaddle and Yoda's child and that Yaddle herself let a kid behind after she was killed (although her death only happened in old canon while Disney canon just states that she left the Order for no real reason and didn't die, despite being a Jedi Master and that going against current Disney canon claiming that Dooku was the last master to leave the Order in the prequel era). But again, its a minor nitpick. Do whatever you want with the little goblin and his parents, just don't reveal the name of the species or say they're from Dagobah.
I think there's a potential for the Mandalorian
Its best hope for longevity is for them to just drop any connections to Disney shit and stop using Disney references while never bringing up the First Order. The newest episode did good in not using any sequel aliens or references and sticking mostly to old movie and old EU shit (unlike the first episode). The action was surprisingly well done too in a very Genndy fashion.
On a related note, one thing I recently read that did peak my interest is an interview with Dave Filoni that may imply that Disney may actually try to put the Mandalorian in a different continuity separate from their new shit. In said
interview, Filoni reveals that the reason he created IG-11 instead of using an IG-88 duplicate is to avoid any contradictions with the old Expanded Universe, claiming further that he wants this show to not alienate old fans while attracting new ones with this revival (which is honestly what the fucktards at Disney should've done in the first place). Strangely episode 1 was directed by Filoni and it had some new aliens, but episode 2 which is not by Filoni has zero sequel references, so take that as you will.
