There's enough residual affection and interest for the franchise in North America, western Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand that they'll get their share of bodies in seats that this will not be the embarrassment it deserves to be. The irony that Star Wars seems to have become the ultimate Stuff White People Like franchise (plus Japan, honorary white people) should be lost on no one as this tanks everywhere else in the world, of course, but this is gonna do well enough that the usual suspects will all be able semi-critically shill about the "haters" losing.

And what else beside this and Jumanji is there to see? The nightmare fuel that is Cats? I guess there's a chance Frozen 2 does insanely well and holds long enough to hurt TRoS, but I think that's an outside shot.

Check out the box office numbers of the previous movies (prequels are a better thermometer since 70s numbers are not reliable for international gross) and compare to the other hits at the time like Harry Potter, Spiderman or Lord of the Rings. The ratio is completely different.

Star Wars was a 50/50 ratio in the past and still is. Nothing's changed.

But in the Soviet Union, there was a monopoly. In the global cultural context, most movies of the era (highly popular and highly profitable at the time) are dated (Soviet movie actors were theater actors, and the movies are extremely hammy as a result), but the books hold up, and the songs are fucking awesome. In contrast, Russia's traditional media of the capitalist era has been pure garbage.

Just watched Episode 2 of The Mandalorian:

Honestly a huge improvement over the last episode, and I liked the less dialogue heavy script as it focuses more on imagery and visual storytelling, which to me is what I wanted out of a Star Wars show like this. The action was quite good too and I won't say more than that.

But...I'm expecting them to fuck it up very very soon. And I still hope it doesn't turn out it was a woman the whole time because that would be weird and shitty.

I just watched Doomcock's video on the ending leaks and reshoots. Good lord the Top 3 ending all sound A-TROCIOUS from Rey curb stomping the emporer, to a secret skywalker (fucking mara jade i bet) , to all ghost jedi's vs. palpatine. All of them are fucking dumb.

He even goes into the fact that folks were walking out when the Falcon gets exploded. Priceless.
