Because that is a nothing concept. Sure we can all joke about moon wheat, Star Trek spaceships and robot bodies, but in practical terms, Robert's "superior future" means nothing, it is just a fantasy that Robert has created for himself to sustain his self perceived image, AKA, "I'm better than you".
By that I mean, superior future isn't a specific goal, but more of a musing that Robert wants people like him on control of everything, and how Robert sees himself?
That is easy, highly intelligent, learned and culturally savy, that can embace any and all culture equaly and will put artistic and scientific endeavors above any other human activity, and as being this notorious man of culture and therefore righteous, he will advocate against any perceived injustice of the marginalized (but never really interacting with them), ever so streching the definition or cause of such injustices to be ever on top of this example of enlighted man for our generation.
Robert want these extraordinary people on power because he belives he is cut from the same cloth, vain self-satisfaction of beloging to the rigthous and just, or in simple terms: being of one of the "good guys". Sure, Robert believes if the good guys are in power, segregations will be over, all cultures will reach an understanding and we can colonize mars.
But Robert isn't interested in any of that, what good is cultural variety if all he watches is hollywood trite and silly chinese kung-fu crap? What does he really care about ending marginalization if not even once he ever mentioned doing any social work, besides walking around in a ineffectual protest or actual interaction with any marginalized group? What does he envision with space exploration if he barely leaves his home and only travels out of his town to just go to pop-culture shit cons?
All there is left is just a pitfull self satisfaction of being "better than the rest", a attitude he caried his entire life, that this frustatred, sad lonely man can derive from being a representative of the "superior future".
