Does anyone have any ideal how Rian Johnson's childhood was like? I don't know but he comes off as someone who was probably bullied as a kid for being a weakling unloyal prick by Star Wars fans. He never truly let go of that and his parents obviously didn't do enough (he does comes off as a single parent child) so now the Last Jedi was his way of getting back at them when those "bullies" had already forgotten him for years. He wants attention at the end of the day, he may never do a SW movie again but he know she that he has already won (especially with his career doing fine afterwards)....it's still Kathy's fault at the end of it, tho.

I'm gonna put MONEY that he was raised by a single parent. HE has a brother who's a singer of sorts. His ploy at "subverting expectations" comes off as "I know you LOVE this thing and for that I will wreck this thing because I can and you can't do shit about it."

He's a pretentious "LOOK AT ME!" shit stain that makes films that have artistic flair but very little in the way of cohesive story. Mauler put it best that TLJ was not 1 film but a half dozen film scenes put together because rian johnson wanted that TYPE of scene on the screen i.e. Bomber scene=Pearl Harbor, chase scene in casino world=fast and furious, jail break scene, fight scene, etc. all set pieces which he is good at utilizing. If he was held to account and had people who told him "Fuck no this is stupid, what are you doing?" like the early trilogy had (lucas is notoriously resentful at Kasdan telling him his ideas were dumb and to reign it in) the movie might have been better.

No, KK was all hands off secretary style so you had another Waterworld on the screen.

You nailed it. Rian CAN make a decent product if he is kept under a very heavy watch but TLJ shows what happens when you have full creative control AND, unlike Lucas, doesnt give a shit about the franchise in the long run (as flawed as the prequels were, they didnt hurt the franchise in the long run), TLJ seems to be made with the intention of "trying to make you think" when what Rian really did is just constantly shit on the Legacy characters (and even some of the new ones like Finn being a side character in a story he should have been one of the leading characters) because...aww...we didnt expect that and the Jedi really suk, lolz! Lucas did the entire prequel trilogy around the concept that the Jedi were flawed, not bad, simply flawed, Johnson simplified that by making the Jedi seem like complete murderous losers, especially Luke.

Rian comes off as the sort of man who wants to be remembered even if its unfavorably by others. He wants to be the man who helped DESTROY Star Wars and he knows he will always have a considerable amount of shills who will defend him at all cost even after he kicks the bucket. He may set the world on fire but he is content in being remembered as the man who did that. And it helps the system is rigged in his favour, where you fail upwards, he knows he aint getting punished in the long run, so he makes no more SW movies (tho he will keep trying, I tell ya), so what? His career is safe as people will flock to watch his next cinematic dump. Of course, Kathey is as much to blame, especially since she was so trigger happy in firing directors, like Trevor, for merely disagreeing with her (not just creatively but possibly even politically), which not only makes her seem painfully shallow and petty but highly unprofessional.

Rian Johnson is the modern Herostratus. I can totally get behind that idea.

Isn't Plan 9 releasing in two days in Japan or was that rumor a meme?

As far I care, in 1978 a Japanese film was released in those days of people trying to ride the wake of Star Wars' popularity that was better than any of the Sequels

Movies were made back in that time period trying to tap into that Star Wars fervor but how many of these starred Sonny Chiba and Etsuko Shiomi? Just this one, right. Though even the most questionable Italian produced knockoffs are preferable to the Sequels.

GeneralFriendliness said in this thread some pages ago that Rey "flat chest" Sue will bury the belongings of better characters in Tatooine as a homage to them. Ok, the scene is stupid but I don't consider it to be exactly offensive... But the item chosen to represent Solo will be THE DICES!!! These stupid fucking dices again!

"Sorry I let your son die. Here's your fucking dice."

Rian: I can be good at movies if I want to.
Kathey: *mockingly doing a blowjob gesture right at his side*
-
Rian: Its George Lucas's fault!
-
Rian: I myself am a former pro film maker. I made a decent episode of Breaking Bad and Looper, everyone remembers that one.
-
Rian: WHY AM I TAHXIC!??! WHUT!?
-
Rian: So fuck you if you are acting immature.

DSP's quotes just fit right at home...

edit: One more
Rian: I have TOLD YOU TO BUUUY THE FIGURE!

Edit 2: Last one I promise

Rian:....oh, the camera is on. The camera has been on the whole time!.........Helloh!

Man, you learn something everyday. Rian does fit the description frighteningly well. He has safety nets all over and a safe space bubble so of course he doesnt care about the damage to the franchise.
I could say that Heros is a cautionary tale about hubris and if you are going to be remembered, at least be about something positive but people like Rian really dont and never will give a shit.

Talking about this without posting images?
I am disappoint.

Gotta admit, they aren't big, but they ain't unsexy.
This is just saddening. What did Disney see in Daisy? The actress they got for the theme park to play Rey was a more convincing actress and cuter for fuck sake.

I still do not understand Disney's obsession with making the dice Han's signature item or some shit like that.
They were in one scene in A New Hope as a little gag, were never seen again after that, and were later given a retroactive story by the EU that only absolute fanatics cared about.
It's almost as inexplicable as Anakin's second lightsaber suddenly becoming the lightsaber/Space Excalibur.

What would be cute is if Han's item was his wedding ring or a picture of his son as a child or something. Can't have that shit though, guy probably sold them for booze money just like Luke's medal because he's a filthy white male.

Merchandising! Imagine cheap golden dice hanging from thousands of rear view mirrors across the world, each one a dangling $14.99 right into Disney’s pocket. That was probably the idea at least.

His blaster or a lightsaber are too pricey or risky, but some cheap tsotchke could be tried to be made into a new iconic item and cranked out to be sold to the masses. Problem is, the masses don’t care about it.

this. the first order are literally space nazis, all that's missing is the swastika.
Instead they have white power armbands in TFA...

Music score and track list leaked. Though it is FYC and may not be complete.

I guess this confirms some more shit. Including something I initially dismissed if the "healing wounds" track is anything to go by. If anyone remembers, I once posted a leak that claimed that the gang fights a sand worm and Rey discovers she has healing powers and uses them to save someone or something. I honestly thought that whole thing was too stupid to be true, but people are even talking about the sandworm now.

Even in said EU story, the dice were never treated as the main focus or even talked about. The story in question was the Millennium Falcon novel from 2008 that detailed the Falcon's history, but even then the dice are only mentioned briefly and off-handedly as being part of the lucky streak that won Han his Falcon, otherwise he doesn't show any particular devotion towards them or treat them as important outside of decoration and happy reminders. Aside from that novel, the only other time the dice were ever even given any attention was in a 1984 comic book which was the first and only instance of the dice ever being acknowledge outside of that 2008 novel, and even then Han only acknowledges their existence very briefly.

In short, the only reason he ever kept them around in old canon was apparently as good luck charms because they helped to win him the Falcon. In Disney canon, the dice really serve no purpose or posses any real value. They're just there for some reason. Even in Solo they serve no purpose and they don't even help him to win the Falcon, he just has them from the beginning and that's that. They just keep slapping these dumb dice everywhere in Disney stuff as though they're super important yet they amount to nothing. The design of the dice doesn't even match the originals. They were just a silly easter egg that Disney seems fixated on to make up for a lack of lore and history I guess. Weird part is that Disney drones claim that a TFA guide and Disney novel say Han beat Lando with the dice despite the shitty movie showing no such thing.
