I don't think the movie even mentions the republic until the very end. So, I'd say that's an easy no.

It's just something I'll never get.

I could understand reduced military spendingafter a war when rebuilding is a major concern, but why a total wipeout other than so the movie could happen?

Maybe they go back to the style of military they had before the Clone Wars with defense being handled on the sector level with only an administrative Republic command. Maybe some sectors rely heavily on mercenaries. Anything but Rebellion boogaloo!

Speaking of Doomcock, I wonder what the reshoots changed. From what I remember, for instance, Kylo climbing out of the pit and reviving Rey wasn't in the original leaks. Neither was Han, that was remarkably well hidden until now. I remember you commenting that there was conflicting reports on Rey returning to Ahch-To, that might have been a reshoot.

Doomcock's leaks were a bit off it seems. Overall, he had a shitton of leaks of dubious quality.

A smart story might have brought up issues such as the real-world issues of de-nazification in Germany and similar issues in Japan after the war.
That could have been an interesting starting point for a conflict, but nope... we can just have magic Empire-Larpers that pop out of nowhere and a New Republic that just doesn't exist for no reason. Explanations are for book-reading nerds!

alright, i’ve gotten my thoughts mostly in order, so here goes.

i’ve heard from reputable sources (including @themandalorianwolf) that all of the leaks are true. r3ylo won. shit storytelling won. racism, sexism, and abuse won. the promising start that we got with TFA did not have a satisfying conclusion. if you’re a fan of finn, or poe, or rose, or jannah, or rey as she was written in tfa - or of luke, leia, han, even kylo ren as we saw him in tfa - i do not recommend seeing this movie.

i’m furious. i’m furious with myself for defending jj abrams for all these years, for giving lucasfilm my money twice, for expecting so little – all i wanted was finn to get the respect he deserved – and receiving nothing in return. jj abrams lied to john boyega, to all of us, that this series would have a satisfying ending. i will never see any movie made by him again. star wars, with the exception of the original and prequel trilogies and the mandalorian, is dead to me. lucasfilm and disney are dead to me too.

it’s okay to grieve. any emotions you’re feeling right now are completely valid. we were promised answers and diversity - we were left with more questions and everybody was sidelined for kylo ren’s development. it’s all such bullshit, and i’m so sorry.

that being said - i still love finn, and i love finnrey (at least the finnrey we got in tfa, everything after is awful), and i will keep running this blog. i will finish my fix it fic series – in which finnrey is canon, finn is treated with the respect he deserves, and rey is a skywalker, available to read here. i’m working on the next chapter as we speak, and plan to finish the fic and its sequel soon.

despite the crapshow we call canon, i enjoyed my time in this fandom immensely. i’m grateful for everybody i met, and for all the fics/art/graphics that the talented people in this fandom created, including @finnreyfridays. fuck lucasfilm. you guys are the best. (not you, r3ylos and kyle stans. you can choke.) thank you for everything.

Mulling over the plot of Plan 9, I realized that the bad guys win.

All of the Skywalkers are dead, the New Republic's ineptitude means it'll never reform, the Resistance's leaders are a fucking janitor and a potato sack, the First Order is still in control of the galaxy, and the only person who could rebuild the jedi is a Palpatine.

Disney screwed up Star Wars to the point where the saga ends in the worst way possible.

I THINK, dont quote me on this since I dont care (it aint canon at the end to me), but I think the new republic wanted to avoid a take over similar to how Palpatine did with the clone army after order 66 so in their painfully naive logic, no army, no take over, right? There are still soldiers but their numbers dont compare to Clone Army numbers. It doesnt help that there was the first order threatening them but, again, in a mixture of naivety and corruption, they decided they are a strong indepedent republic that need no army....aaand they got reduced to a bunch of cosmic dust like they

You could cut that out and replace it with: Kylo falls into the pit and dies, Rey barely survives.

Yep. Reylos can be spergy and annoying and apparently some are currently throwing hissyfits over their husbando dying (which other Reylos aren't thrilled about), but for the most part they historically haven't been the ones engaging in harassment or /pol/tier shitposting and trolling . I've mentioned in the shipping thread but I think it's because out of all the ships Reylo has the fewest SJWs, because SJWs declared it Haram right off the bat and started harassing anyone that liked it.

But of course SJWs will fuse them all together as one evil Nazi boogeyman that robbed them of their BASICALLY PROMISED ship.

If this was something they painstakingly added in reshoots then I wonder whether KK was autistically insistent on Kylo dying and Rey taking over as "uncontested hero and real true face of the franchise" and JJ was only allowed to turn his embarrassing death into some cringy and contrived melodrama in a desperate attempt to temper the shipper rage that was going to be thrown against him.

Seriously, from the filmmakers perspective killing off Kylo is just a pointlessly dumb move. You automatically drive the shipper untermensch into an enraged frenzy against you, you sever the last skywalker legacy and thus alienate any remaining fan who while not giving a shit about Kylo might hope for a movie set a hundred years in the future with some shit like Nu-Cade Skywalker so the franchise might yet survive and have a second chance, the normies dont get shit out of it, and hell none of the franchise haters will be won over by this.

They were the ones who harassed Mark Hamill (after he posted the photoshopped image of Luke, Han, Leia and Lando together) and Anthony Daniels, but they definitely weren't the ones harassing KMT. They loved Rose because it got Finn out of the way for Kylo and Rey to take center stage. Also, take a dive into twitter and you'll realize Reylos are SJWs, they just jump through hoops to justify why they like their bad boy white dude and make self aware jokes.

the whole timespan between ep6-7 is retarded as fuck. just look up operation cinder. and I vaguely remember that leia got ousted after people found out she's vader's daughter (how? who knows? who cares!) and it was basically mon mothma's idea (you know, the leader who actually was in the fucking war).
