Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

How Marcia help save Lucas from himself.

Marcia wasn't the only editor on the film. I'm sick of this narrative, to be honest. It is the editor's job to take ideas and scenes and fit them in logically, that's why it exists. No one has or will contest that ultimately most of the great ideas came from George. Shilling someone as "saving a movie" because they did their job and George did his is crazy.

They keep saying this but so far almost everyone (including most people in this thread) who said they loved this movie also said that they were never really into Star Wars and don't even follow it, only liking this movie as a mindless action flick. H Rose Tico still exists but her romance was axed not because of fan backlash but because of chinese backlash (and even then the movie still bombed in China)
Fans have been laughing at, dunking on, or being in despair of Disneys shitty pandering for months. The only thing i can think of to appease fans is rey training (too late), and bringing palpatine back. Bringing palpy back was a last minute arse pull to have a villain after TLJ and it still spits on Luke and Anakin's story arcs. Everything else continues to spit on what fans liked about the OT.

I think Rose was mainly axed for her inability to sell merchandise.
I remember someone mentioning before that firing Kennedy could not only lead to a lot of drama but maybe even a dip in stocks and problems with investors, and maybe Spielberg himself. Does anyone here have a good grasp of the potential drama that would unfold if they actually had the guts to take care of Kennedy?
They could promote her laterally to head of fox or something and give her a wrangler so only obvious nostalgia cashgrabs (like Disney's recent live action remakes) get greenlit by her.
I dunno, 70% dropoff might be a little optimistic.
Yeah even TLJ didn't make it to that number (well except in China) and that was one of the biggest big budget drop offs ever. I'd expect somewhere 55-60%
It can be a topic of it's own, but cgi action scenes in films is cancer. Like, "let's make every fight scene dark so people won't notice the quality" (Pacific Rim) or "let's give humans guns so they won't have to physically fight Orks" (Warcraft).
making action scenes dark, shaky cam, moving the camera and cutting on hits is a long standing problem with hollywood directors doing action. It's to hide incompetence of the actors in the scene and to save money. I like to point to this Every frame a painting of Jackie Chan's action and stuntwork as it really showcases this problem well
The same guide also tries to explain why the stupidly named "Holdo Maneuver" was only a 1 in a million thing and why nobody uses it. Suffice it to say, it sounds more bullshitty than the explanations surrounding Starkiller or Rey herself.
I know this ratio is due to the 1 in a million but it might just work trope but even that would be great odds and worthwhile to divert resources to make millions of small hyperspace torpedo's for the chance to take out the emperor's 1000 star destroyers.
If you look here it seems like the box office take is dropping rather quickly

To be honest, I blame Twilight.

Now wait, hear me out. Twilight Bella got everything she wanted, and because her blood tasted so delicious, it was a reason that she couldn't be injured in the series because even a paper cut put her life at risk from hordes of vampires. We all know the fact that it was a Mary Sue insert, that she could have been replaced by a Pecan Pie and the story would be the same.

Then suddenly if a female protagonist got injured, critics and smooth brained Twitterati screamed "TORTURE PORN!" and mistook normal anxiety for disgust and trauma.

twilight is a YA novel tho, unless disney wanted to make another hunger games/maze runner/divergent movie it can't really be blamed for it. injecting a romance plot is decades old, if not older. plus it doesn't explain all the shit female protagonists in video games where you usually have options to play whatever you want, removing the white/caucasian option doesn't really make sense when it's just a fucking color value.

as for female protagonists...

nowinscenario.jpg

iirc that pic predates all the [current year] shit.

So i have been thinking as to why rey was written to be a mary sue. It seems like it would be rather hard to write a character that doesnt face any adversity. It doesnt seem like this is incompetent writing as someone pointed out many pages back that since she can't lose, you have to stall or distract her.

...

This ties into something i heard called the 'Galbrush paradox'. Imagine some the worst character traits one could have. In this political climate, you likely could not apply these traits to a female protagonist as women will take it personally and assume you mean "all women are X" You can do this with a male one because men often dont take it personally.

the need for stalling and distraction is required so you can still have a plot. rey walking up to the bad guy and defeating him by just being in the same room in the first 5 minutes doesn't make for a compelling or exciting story.

as for what women want or not, I can tell you one thing: women want to be pretty. a bland blob of flesh for self-insertion doesn't convey that, so while that might cause some cognitive dissonance ("I want to be her but she's ugly" vs "she's prettier than me, fuck that bitch"), the latter usually works better based on simple pro/cons alone.

regarding gal/guybrush, turns out genders aren't equal and you still have some preconceived notions, which also affects their sueyness. E;R goes into that in case you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og77pfVFJTs

I highly doubt this episode could be made today without turning the main character into a superwoman who mows down white male Nazis by the hundreds.

isn't that basically wolfenstein: youngblood...

Man, out of all the OT characters, I hated seeing Chewie getting cucked in the ST and have him suffer from the loss of Han, Luke, and Leia alone.
but he got a medal this time, so he can use that to hang himself when he realizes all his friends are dead.

This!

Some OT fans are probably annoying in a sense that they try to discredit George Lucas' work whenever possible by saying how other people made Star Wars great while George had no impact or influence

The reaction to Rise of Skywalker among my friends is split.

Some hate it, others loved it and admitted to crying during the movie.

The later reaction baffles me.
I got sick on the way out of The Last Jedi. Odds are I'd cry at the end when Palps wins.

Oh, how's this 3 dollar pick up for Memberberries?

Always wanted it as a kid but my Mom wouldn't buy it. I figured I'll enjoy the stroll down memory lane and my son will too.

Unpossible that Scott "ShillSucking" Mendelson is on the same page as most of the audience. He's still a cunt fucktard who uses the word "Problematic" like any NPC douchecanoe but hey a win is a win in my book whomever the speaker.

he's the worst kind on sleazy journo-whore that knows how to play the clickbait game and cause controversy but never far enough that you could nail him for it. 80 years ago he'd be a top dog in the reich's ministry for public enlightenment and propaganda.

well, there's a strobe warning for a reason...

Wow, reading through this thread after shitposting, some of the opinions here are pretty gay. Anyone saying Disney shouldn't have killed the EU should watch my favorite RedLetterMedia video ever:

Also I'm pretty sure they killed off the EU for legal reasons because Star Trek's awful, muddled canon gave them difficulties shutting down fan projects.

I don't think this one is hitting a billion. At least not domestically.

Does anyone know if this can even be shown in China? Undead Emperor, Force Ghosts like a bitch, I'd be surprised if the Chinese censors let this movie slip through especially given the last movie's dismal reception over there.

but disney didn't kill it, they just put it in a blender, chugged it down then vomited it back out.

if you're the IP holder you can try to shutdown whatever you want, even more so when you're one of the biggest media companies in the world with it's own legal department.
I agree it was probably for legal reasons, but more so they don't get into PR trouble with authors while ripping shit off left and right anyway.

FAst and Furious in Space movie.

even the worst FF movie has more thought and soul put into it than any nuwars episodes. just look at 7 and how they handled paul walker dying.

It's playing now in China, and not only is it playing now, the gay kiss made it past the censors.

This is something I’ve been noticing since I looked up some shit about Fallen Order and started watching RLM. Are there really that many fucking Star Wars lore spergs on YouTube? I’m seeing something in my suggested vids from some fuck named The Stupendous Wave about “Why Palpatine FEARED Jedi with Yellow Lightsabers The Most” and it has 43k views in 3 hours. Are they botting this shit? That sounds fucking asinine.

Ah, yes, because I too cherrypick the stupid shit from the old EU and ignore the shit that was nearly as good if not better than the actual movies. You don't have to suck off RLM on this one, it's okay to make good non-movie material as long as it's unique and stands on its own. Mike wouldn't be happy unless Star Wars was a dead series, good material or not, because he can't comprehend anything but the OT existing. Also, the point of nixing the EU was ostensibly to make things better, not more stupid.

Yes, they're everywhere. They almost always take a few pages from a comic book or a section of a Wook page and stretch it out to ten minutes, and just narrate exactly what happens in the material. It's definitely asinine.

There are dumb lore spergs like "What do Palpatine and Vader like to do in their free time?"

Well the TLJ cultists are sucking Rian's dick on twitter and made it trending because apparently a movie where a woman literally got thousands killed because she never told anyone anything, a woman prevented a sacrifice that would save many out of lust, and a woman who acts like a teenage girl into bad boys is considered progressive

"But its fine! And its fine that he's forced to give away his best friend's ship to some girl he doesn't even know. He gets a participation medal!" - Yellow Yoda

Also how the fuck did Yellow Yoda even know he didn't get a medal? Did Chewbacca tell her how fucking miserable he was over it or does everyone know? Its another example of how small Disney's shit feels. Also the original premise was that Chewbacca was too prideful as a wookiee to accept such a trinket. And even then in both old and Disney canon, Chewbacca still got a medal despite his protests.

In the old, he gets the medal in the after-party where Leia puts it on the frumpy wookiee at Han's request despite his bashful protests.
1577157730482.jpeg

And according to Disney's retelling of ANH, Leia gives him the medal at the same time as Han and Luke in the movie which definitely goes against what we see on screen, but it doesn't matter because Chewbacca still didn't want it and gives it away to some random girl he just met.

But this just seems to confirm to me that Disney's shit takes place in a fucked up timeline. But regardless, Yellow Yoda giving him one makes even less sense. And if the medal she gave him is the one that Han sold to her for beer in the Plan IX tie-in, then honestly that's just horribly awkward.

Also IRL, Chewbacca got a medal at the 1997 MTV film awards.

Murphy's law sucks.

Pretty much yeah. I also find it odd how everyone is quick to form a massive hateboner for said material, yet Disney's EU gets a pass on almost everything, including from HelloGreedo, and is actively promoted and celebrated by people who hated anything outside the OT before despite the new stuff having shit that would even put the worst of the old to shame. I'm free to poke fun at Jedi Prince all I want, but say something about how fucking ridiculous Wendig's Hillary Clinton in space is and before you know it in comes the Troon Squad.

I've mentioned this before, but a few old authors have spoken about Disney using their characters without credit years ago, but one such author when asked said he couldn't do anything because he gave Lucasfilm full control over what he created. Also Disney constantly re-uses characters and things from old lore on a whim and without a care, much like Thrawn. And Zahn himself has said that he has little control over the Thrawn character's fate despite creating him.

According to Leland Chee, the reason they probably trashed old canon (then recycled it) was because Chewbacca died.
