Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

I got sick on the way out of The Last Jedi. Odds are I'd cry at the end when Palps wins.

Oh, how's this 3 dollar pick up for Memberberries?

Always wanted it as a kid but my Mom wouldn't buy it. I figured I'll enjoy the stroll down memory lane and my son will too.

I have that book and others in the series. I also have the books for Droids, Vehicles, Planets & Moons, and Weapons.

They give a very high level view of the OT characters and those of the EU, and all the other books follow suit. They are basically "Wookiepedia" before the internet became what it is today, and they were released before the prequels and before the Special Edition.

The books themselves are fine. Nothing you wouldn't find on Wookiepedia, BUT, I am very nostalgic for them because they represent that period where all we had were the Original Trilogy and the Expanded Universe, and it was a great time to be fan. Before the Special Edition reared its ugly head, before the Prequels tainted it, and before the Disney buyout, we had this simple and fun period where we got to enjoy the movies as the classics that they are, and get extra material like this to keep us happy.

It was a simpler time, and it was a better time.

According to the new IX dictionary and guide for the film, Disney will no longer be using BBY/ABY (Before and After Battle of Yavin) for the Star Wars calendar's dating system. Instead they'll be using BSI/ASI (Before and After Starkiller Incident) for all years in SW from now on... So currently it is now Year 1 ASI in Plan IX. Therefore Rey and her gang have officially replaced Luke and his friends in every conceivable way.

The same guide also tries to explain why the stupidly named "Holdo Maneuver" was only a 1 in a million thing and why nobody uses it. Suffice it to say, it sounds more bullshitty than the explanations surrounding Starkiller or Rey herself.

ARRRGGGHHHHHHH. Well, consider this more proof that the "plan" from here is to jump forward into the distant future, past the ST.

Where everyone is gay, of course. Rabidly, wantonly gay.

This is something I’ve been noticing since I looked up some shit about Fallen Order and started watching RLM. Are there really that many fucking Star Wars lore spergs on YouTube? I’m seeing something in my suggested vids from some fuck named The Stupendous Wave about “Why Palpatine FEARED Jedi with Yellow Lightsabers The Most” and it has 43k views in 3 hours. Are they botting this shit? That sounds fucking asinine.

It's being promoted by Youtube. Draw your own conclusions.

Marcia wasn't the only editor on the film. I'm sick of this narrative, to be honest. It is the editor's job to take ideas and scenes and fit them in logically, that's why it exists. No one has or will contest that ultimately most of the great ideas came from George. Shilling someone as "saving a movie" because they did their job and George did his is crazy.

The edits truly started with Marcia editing (well, reediting) the battle of Yavin - Marcia then had to go do her job as an editor for other films. This by Lucas' own admission made him realize the film needed some serious edit work and hired the other two editors. No one is disputing Lucas' skill & imagination. George is brilliant, but he needs someone to keep him reigned in.

You've got a generation of supplementary material to work with and an age where people can make money just by posting semi-popular vids. Ergo, there's plenty of people who are going to be like "whoa this Jedi had a wife and acted as a double agent against Dooku" or "that one time Anakin trolled a drunk gambler and made Palpatine laugh" and just regurgitate comics for YouTube bux.

Well the TLJ cultists are sucking Rian's dick on twitter and made it trending because apparently a movie where a woman literally got thousands killed because she never told anyone anything, a woman prevented a sacrifice that would save many out of lust, and a woman who acts like a teenage girl into bad boys is considered progressive

I know everyone shits on Rose, but Holdo is probably the single most baffling character in all of Star Wars, at least in the movies. They wanted us, in the end, to think of her as a hero and that she was right the whole time...but she wasn't! At all! She caused way more shit than she needed to.

And as I said a while back, all they had to do was have her give some coded message to Poe saying "There is a mole on the ship. I can't state my specific plan. Find the mole" and boom! There's your subplot. Instead, they just basically made her a villain until she magically wasn't.

The reason the OT works so well is that you have other minds guiding it in the right direction and George listened to them. I think Lucas is a very smart man and has a wonderful imagination and he's actually one of the few film makers I'd like to sit down and have a talk with because I think it would be a fascinating discussion.

But the prequels highlight his short comings well. Great imagination, some interesting ideas, but he can't have sole input into the Star Wars stew otherwise you get what we got from 1999-2005.

The sequels have the exact opposite problem where it felt like "Do whatever you want and we'll figure it out later" and the end result is an unfocused mess of a trilogy where all three movies seem to be at war with each other. That would have been a case where it would have been good to have George around as a consultant or fuck it, just use the damn outline he gave you because I guarantee it would have been better...ok, maybe I can't guarantee that, but I know it couldn't have been worse and at least everyone would have had a framework to guide them.

Which is bizarre since Disney's new shit is only about 5 years old, yet now they have a library that's even bigger than the last 30 years of Star Wars content (yet ironically less than a handful of video games) and more youtube videos covering that shit than anything that ever came before. "Find out how proud lesbian Dr. Aphra was the true hero of Hoth and not Luke Skywalker!".

Considering Star Wars has had its shambling corpse paraded around for two terrible trilogies I don't disagree.
Yeah, and in that time we've gotten a wide variety of games, comics, shows and books that do their own thing and are even often written better than the OT was. RLM makes a point in the IX review about there being the mystical side of these movies and the technical, and wonder aloud where the fuck all these ships came from, but then they mock anyone who's interested in the technical side of this universe and the worldbuilding that explains how all this happened. Or the mention that they like the Mandalorian, which is absolutely an EU heavy work. On some things, I can't take them seriously. They're ultimately a comedy channel, not everything they say is right or makes sense.

I don't think this one is hitting a billion. At least not domestically.

Does anyone know if this can even be shown in China? Undead Emperor, Force Ghosts like a bitch, I'd be surprised if the Chinese censors let this movie slip through especially given the last movie's dismal reception over there.
They cut out as many ghosts and made them voice-overs as possible to avoid the Chinaman banhammer... all for nothing by the by.

By the way, how good was West End's take on the franchise tabletop wise? I'm mostly familiar with Edge of Empire's books and haven't gotten much of a chance to look through it myself.

I've never actually played it. Trying to get a group of friends together for one of the mini-modules to try it out, though.

These shots are actually really good. It makes the Rebels seem like they're really trying to be an army rather than little more than a bunch've militia who have managed to slide past due to the Empire's ever growing incompetence. It makes sense considering the Rebels can't afford to hand an untrained pilot or driver one of their machines, they can't afford to continually replace them.

A lot of EU and even the old OT novels made it clear that X-wings were precious to them, they couldn't afford to replace them at a decent pace - if at all sometimes.

Ah well. Now everyone just.. I don't know, dyes their hair purple and becomes an admiral because raisins.

It's only 13K tweets, and this is already on Twitter, a well known hugbox, so it's not like it's mind-blowing, That said, some of these tweets are retarded.

It challenged my pre-conceived notion of Rian Johnson being a good film director, most certainly.

Anyone who has depression and wants to work on it should be horrified by how it's (supposedly) portrayed in The Last Jedi. Luke almost murders someone and gets many of his students killed. That isn't a simple failure, it's what we would call attempted murder and criminal negligence.

:horrifying:

Reylos, as expected (it was a pretty good scene).

In what universe has Star Wars not shown that hope is the birthright of everyone? This goes back to the fact that everyone who seems to like TLJ are completely unaware of any Star Wars media outside of the OT, and otherwise have never seen the OT or barely remember it before becoming sequel shills.

Screenshot 2019-12-23 at 11.14.46 PM.png

Here's an example. What do you know, Reylo.

Screenshot 2019-12-23 at 11.00.39 PM.png

"Selfless" = Rose preventing Finn from dying for the greater good, "pacifist" = Holdo killing thousands and thousands of people, "anti-war" = a baffling both sides are exactly the same and military-industrial complex message, "lightsaber duel not being a duel at all" = not a fucking Star Wars movie.

REYLOS

Absolutely fucking bonkers if you don't think ESB and RotJ had themes and were about something.

Screenshot 2019-12-23 at 11.13.57 PM.png

"Respecting our intelligence", also, Reylo.

They have to live in a bizarro world where The Last Jedi actually had all the shit they're praising if for in the actual movie, instead of being a terribly paced and written mess.

Some good dunks, though.

Screenshot 2019-12-23 at 11.01.13 PM.png

Finn stan, I'm assuming. I feel you, TLJ did him dirty.

Screenshot 2019-12-23 at 11.01.25 PM.png

Absolutely correct, George is 10x the man Rian is.

Mike wouldn't be happy unless Star Wars was a dead series, good material or not, because he can't comprehend anything but the OT existing.

...

Yes, they're everywhere. They almost always take a few pages from a comic book or a section of a Wook page and stretch it out to ten minutes, and just narrate exactly what happens in the material. It's definitely asinine.

that's more rich, mike still has enough headcanon for new stuff (going by the star trek series), my assumption would be that they're just sick and tired of star wars right now, especially with most of it shit and people constantly demanding material for it.

narrating shit over a webpage is pretty common, heck most of the stuff linked here is just someone talking about an article for 30 minutes with opinion mixed in when I could just read that shit myself in a fraction of the time.

The anime statues will save the star wars trilogy.
already did
didn't get them and now with disney in charge new run never ever
