It depends on what you're looking for, but you have to recall that SA isn't/wasn't just a forum - it was a lot of things accidentally rolled into one and it's success as a website was predicated on the idea that alternatives hadn't popped up yet. So it depends on what you took from SA, back in the day, to find out where you've got to go now. No matter what you're looking for, though - it's already moved on elsewhere.

Kiwi Farms / *chan for the meaner side of SA, Reddit for most of the mildy interesting content from SA (such as "I work in a weird job, let me tell you about it"), Slickdeals / Nerdwallet for the thrifty SA stuff, NeoGAF/Penny Arcade/Reddit for the video game shit, Youtube for the new versions of literal SA video content (Mega64 and Yahtzee, to name a few), Twitter for the weird FYAD-style posting, and so on.

It's probably not a killswitch per-se, just that the code is such a cobbled together mess that if you delete FYAD it breaks the whole forum structure.

FYAD has mellowed over the years, just not at the same rate as the rest of the forum because they ddnt police language.
