farewell, it's always a mix of honesty and lies in these sort of videos. In the end here are my takes on what is real and fake.

Living in a tent - fake (pity points/comedy) Greg streams every day from his home.
Divorce - fake (pity points, click generation, purposefully vage)
People trying to 'ruin' Greg's life - true (pity points, victim mentality) he see's himself as a victim in all this
'fired from patreon' - untrue (pity points, victim mentality) he broke terms of service, Greg most likely honestly believes he is in the right
Onion bullies "yet there are literal entire channels that make more than 10 thousand dollars a month, more than 10 thousand dollars a month obsessing over hatred of me.' - true (pity points, victim) you better believe that Onion is serious when he breaks out his calculator and and starts analyzing views/money someone else is getting. Probably this is the thing he is most pissed off about, he really has never minded videos that called him out as long as they generated views/money for him.

It's a civil matter, though, and someone would have to bother bringing suit against them. It's not something the cops do. Most YouTubers either don't make enough money to hire attorneys, or have a big enough platform the slanderers are a mere mosquito in their ear.

I'll take that one step further... For a lot of youtubers, libel and slander are the way they generate views. Drama and controversy is their business. I think it could be argued that people don't look to youtube for the truth the way they look to the TV news. In fact, they expect youtube to be full of half truths and lies. This might make the legal standards for fairness and honesty on youtube almost non-existent. If that's the case, then Chris Hansen on TV would need fact verification and oversight, but Chris Hansen on youtube can say pretty much whatever he wants without fear of being held accountable for it.

He has to be a little more careful because he's wielding the kind of reputation damaging power he would if he were still on actual TV, but without the safety net of a team of lawyers going through everything he says. He has to do that diligence himself.

Turn that around... What if he is using the respect he earned on TV to cover playing dirty behind the scenes? What if he sees the "due diligence" as a hindrance to getting views?

I'm sure that Chris Hansen is totally aware of what his limits are, and like every good reporter, he is going to take advantage of every loophole he can to get his story out. He's playing ball by a totally new set of rules now, following the lead of youtubers, not newsmen, He can be down and dirty at the same time he's exploiting the respect that he earned with totally different set of ethical rules at NBC. That would certainly work against a small fish like Onion who has no clue about how to fight back against that. The bluff would steamroll him over.

I'm going to maintain my healthy skepticism about the truthfulness of "facts" presented in youtube videos... even if they come from ex-newsmen.

If you look closely, it is actually a large framed map on the wall. On the chair there appears to be a child's jacket and shirt. Maybe there are some toys and such by the Christmas tree. It strikes me as some sort of cabin in the woods. I feel like they took a vacation ie. hiding from the feds. I just cant quite get the timing straight. Are they still out in the woods somewhere? There have been at least 2 different hotels and now him filming in this palace of panelled walls for some time now. Is he still doing his live streams? That would probably put him back at the swamp shack.
