There are plenty of coffee shop type jobs he could also get anyway, seeing he lives in a city, not in the boonies. Hell, dude could really make bank if he went off to Kalgoorlie gold mines or wherever and worked on the mines in some capacity even in an entry level job. Not that he would like that roughneck, isolated lifestyle at all, and his gaybro enby tranny SJW shite would make him at best a laughing stock or at worst a daily punching bag, but eh. Money's there if you're prepared to sack up and get on with it. Knew people back in the day from very middle class homes who went out there for 6 months to make money quickly for varous reasons and survived.
I don't know how it works down under, but couldn't he help with disaster relief or something? I'm sure there is something relating to the wildfires he could help with.

Regardless, if he truly cared about his kids he'd find a way to see them for Christmas, come hell or high water (again, given he didn't have other circumstances at play). Hell, he could go suck dick for money if he was truly desperate. But he's not, he's lazy and would rather mope around and play the victim. I'm almost sorry he and Tess didn't work out. They were both so dysfunctional they were perfect for each other.

A number of those firefighters in Australia are volunteer. They go out there to protect the community not a concept that Nick or Tess would know about.

The fires getting the publicity are in New South Wales and Nick's in Brisbane in Queensland, a long way away. Doesn't look like it on a map at first glance but people have a tendancy to not understand how truly vast the country is. He's probably about a 1000 km away from the nearest NSW fire. As the other poster said, a lot of the firefighters are unpaid, local volunteers and others brought to deal with the situation by local government will be seriously skilled professionals. I doubt there's any paid work at all for anyone without highly specific skills that Nick won't have. Also moving long distances costs money, whether it's $$$ in petrol or a flight.

He's in a city of over 2 million people in Brisbane, he can find some minimum wage job there. Australia is really a few major urban population centres, a fuckload of fairly deadly desert/bush, and a lot of farms and some very small rural settlements and tiny one horse towns. He's in the best place if he wants to get an actual regular, waged job exactly where he is.

Plus don't forget the guy is an alkie, self-centred, mentally ill piece of shit whose probably shouldn'tbe trusted with anything important. I think slinging coffee or similar is at his level.

Centerlink (ie dole) payments top out at around $550 (that's Aussie dollars,s about $380 US) every two weeks. Not sure how he'd fare given he's been away years and not paid in though, any Aussies around able to speak to that?
Newstart rates are:
Single, no children AUD$559.00 per fortnight
Single, with a dependent child or children AUD$604.70 per fortnight
I have no idea how his child would be counted but they may be as he is obliged to support it. There is no 'paying in', as a citizen he could (and no doubt did) sign up the day he got in from LA. It's free money (not much but still) and he likely stays with his folks since he seems to have time to post on reddit all day and isn't talking about having difficulty surviving. He's supposed to sincerely look for work while on the dole.

You can't just do that, the volunteer fire fighters come from the regions where the fires are, they're involved long-term and they're trained. There isn't really a massive scale disaster relief underway either, it's just town by town. Nick lives in a city of 2.2mil people, away from all of that. There are no major calls for volunteers. He could find other volunteer work though.

Airfares to LA for christmas peak were probably around AUD$2300 and upwards, so I believe him that he spent his money and couldn't do it. At this point I don't expect him to overcome the inertia of distance, having a free place to crash, a youth substance abuse meeting to attend and a trickle of free money at his disposal.

I was unaware it was primarily exclusive to NSW. I thought most of the country was on fire. Mea culpa.

Tess decided to dress as a holiday ham this year.

In my home country we put the pig in the oven, not under the Christmas tree, but what do I know ...

Oho, what's this? New Getty Images pics?

You know Tess doesn't do shit for one of her kids without there being something in it for her. In the case of her taking Bowie to Disney on Ice, Tess allowed Bowie to tag along while "mama" got her red carpet time and Mama Jolene did the parenting.

Tess has been aging so badly. No amount of makeup can hide how bloated her face looks. Also, with how cartoonishly big her lips are, bright red lipstick looks ridiculous. Her lips look like those candy wax lips you get as a joke.

It doesn't help that on top of her awful lip fillers, she overlines her lips until she looks like a clown. She still thinks if she makes everything else big - big lips, big hair, big fake eyelashes, etc - then she won't look so gigantic. You can't hide an extra 300 pounds with drag queen makeup.

Wow, not even Nick's beloved mum will allow this leach to crash on the sofa - he went all the way back to Brisbane to live in a group home. Sounds like Nikki needed a proper drying out facility, and they couldn't afford it in the States so he went back to Australia for some of that government healthcare.

I wonder if they even have insurance for the kids. They probably qualify for Medicaid.

In a place like that, there's often a contract where they'd take 95% of his benefit payment for his room and board and give him some tiny amount, even just $20, to spend. Presuming they provide his food. Source: friend works in transitional group housing for homeless men, it's funded that way. There is usually access to social worker support in these places so I wonder if he'll squeak his way onto a disability pension for psych reasons. It used to be you could get it for being a drug addict, not sure if that clause still exists but if so, he's set.

edit it's home group not group home

It's a very large place with all kinds of landscapes in it, cities too.
