Super Smash Bros.

Fire Emblem is popular.
It's only the mobile game which is popular though, the main series has been sidelined in favor of mobile garbage.

I was rather disappointed just how limited 3 houses was from a gameplay perspective. It also looked very low budget.

Like if shit is resembling an Aquaplus game and it's from a fuckhuge company it's time to spend a little bit more on the game development. We're getting to the point where Nippon ichi is putting out more technologically advanced RPGs than Nintendo.

I thought it does well in Japan and that’s why there are so many characters for the Japanese market.
It's the opposite actually, it's far more popular in the west than Japan.

And considering how well-received Three houses is, I'm not so sure about it almost dying multiple times.
Gotta brush up on your history then. Nintendo has outright stated that Fire Emblem was almost completely abandoned because of how bad sales were prior to Awakening.

Why does Nintendo Promote fire Emblem and not Xenoblade?

Fire Emblem is crap when compared to other existing SRPG franchises.
Man, that's a good question. Xenoblade's releases have been really clumsy in North America.

-Xenoblade Chronicles was released two years late, at a time when the Wii was all but dead, exclusive to Gamestop, full price, and it had a smallish print run which jacked up second-hand prices like crazy.
-Xenoblade Chronicles X was a Wii U exclusive that actually got a wide release, but it was Wii U exclusive so lmao (and it didn't review nearly as well as XBC)
-Xenoblade Chronicles 3D also got a proper release but WHOOPS it's New Nintendo 3DS only, one of only two games to be exclusive to N3DS for a long time, and the New 3DS (non-XL) released late and as part of an Animal Crossing bundle of all things, I don't even know if a non-themed N3DS ever came out in America. The fact that every New 3DS didn't even come with a charger didn't help matters, either.
-Xenoblade Chronicles 2... didn't have anything stupid happen to it, but doesn't have a representative in Smash and doesn't seem to be talked about much outside of RPG communities

But I guess Xenoblade doesn't have as many marketable waifus as Fire Emblem, so here we are. Talk about a franchise that Nintendo's fumbled.

Consdering they outright lied about why Rex couldn't be a character "His game released too close to when development finished" but still managed to pop in Belyth, who's game came out about 1.5 years after the fact, leads a lot of people to believe there's a personal grudge against the series.

Why did they keep FE going but kill off Advance Wars? I thought AW sold pretty well (excluding Days of Ruin)

The DLC was planned before it was officially announced and they were working on each DLC character individually. Nintendo already decided who was getting included and Sakurai also mentioned playing an earlier version of Three houses (along with BoTW). From what I can tell, there was plenty of time between the development of both the character and the game's release.

So what do you guys think the next 6 characters are going to be?

Dr Eggman, Kefka, Skull Kid, SOPHIA the 3rd, The Lost Dwarves, Captain N.

Oh you mean who I actually think will make it?

Scorbunny, Tingle, Tracer, Minecraft Steve, the Battletoads, Crash Bandicoot

another Fire Emblem dude

Doubt it, they mainly only add the MC of the game that was recently released until they want to go backwards and unearth games that were not released in america (but you can still play it because iirc the only one that was missing in english was 776 and was translated) still i can see them adding the characters of Tokyo Mirage

Why does Nintendo Promote fire Emblem and not Xenoblade?

I supposed they believe that because Shulk is there you dont need to add anyone else

This is actually quite legitimate. Before Awakening managed to get the series back on its feet Fire Emblem was on the chopping block. Awakening was actually required to sell a certain amount of copies or it would be dead, however it did incredibly well and essentially saved the franchise. Fates was a success monetarily though it was panned for various reasons.

Three Houses has been a smash hit so as long as they can avoid another streak of failures they should be fine.

As for Byleth being added in I can't say I wholly blame people for finding them unappealing, they're another fantasy weapon user. The series has loads of them but in this case they at least added the other relic weapons from the game to use and the House Heads skins too.

So.. meh. I'm clearly biased towards liking FE characters but even I think they play pretty similarly in Smash as a casual player.

Oh god apparently people are sending death threats and racist tweets to Sakurai and telling him to retire.

It makes sense why Three Houses was included.

Also kind of ironic people are complaining about yet another sword user (despite the obvious differences in moveset) want characters like Sora, 2B, etc..........who use swords.
