The wording is pretty interesting because it is a classic example of pigroach logic at work. I'm sure he justifies his spending so much money because he isn't "dropping his life fucking savings" into the game, and he'd never be that crazy. But, you know, dropping hundreds of smaller transactions is totally different, and he still spends money on food and utilities and at least one of his homes, so he's not like those other irresponsible whales.

I know there's no way to currently find this out, but I'd be really curious to know if Kat makes as much in a year as Phil has spent in WWE Champions.

Every time Phil has talked about mobile games in the past 5 years, he warns people what a money sink they are. Phil knows, but he can't control himself at all. His mind is an interesting study.

Kind of like how Phil before moving to Washington after his first massive bout of credit card debt would say 'Credit cards are the worst fucking thing in the world, stay away from them. They make it way too easy to spend money you don't need to,' and Wakando Phil The King of Suffering says 'I have 25 credit cards. I kept opening new ones with 0% interest intro rates and transferring my debt to the new ones, but I ran out of cards and now I'm stuck with exorbitant interest rates.'

So I got a new phone, decided to check out some new games on it. One of the games I'm checking out is Fire Emblem Heroes, and yeah, I can easily see how this sort of game scratched Phil's gambling itch with it's skinner-box pulls, and I wouldn't even say FEH is that predatory. Spend time (or money) to get nostalgia fueled characters that make the game easier? Right up Phil's alley, he's got no skill but a ton of cash.

I will never stop wondering how much he's spent on other gatcha games like that DBZ one he praised.

Imagine if you saw a shiny new unit on a banner that was introduced just yesterday, and you think to yourself "I'm gonna +10 them".
To maximize a unit's potential, you need to pull 11 copies of the same unit with odds starting at 3% for 5* focus (desired new unit), while they also share the same exact odds with another set of 5* units (off-focus, called pitybreakers). Every 5 summons (20 orbs á $10), your probability of pulling a 5* units will go up by 0.25%. I've seen people go as high as 7% on a regular banner, which is god awful but not impossible on a regular basis. You can get shafted in a lot of ways while relying on the summoning aspect of FEH.
Now, how many orbs does it take to reliably +10 a unit? - roughly ~1550. It's different across the board depending on the color you're going for, but we're looking at $830 if my math checks out.

You're right by assuming that FEH is "less" predatory than the rest of the bunch, but FEH's gotten worse in terms of powercreep and catering to their whales. Players do get a decent amount of F2P orbs every month, but it's a tedious grind that requires a lot of patience if you want to acquire enough orbs to +10 a unit.

TL;DR
Fire Emblem Heroes is definitely right up Phil's alley. It's a game that promotes whaling, but even whales frequently get punished by these terrible rates and the god awful summoning pools. It'd be easy for him to spiral down a spending spree because the summoning aspect of the game is incredibly frustrating.
You're not safe out there in the realm of gacha games, kids. They're not worth your hard earned money (except Phil's).

All that being said; did Phil ever mention that he played FEH? I'd be surprised because he wouldn't even touch Three Houses with a ten foot pole for obvious muh-wife reasons.

Basically I think Phil's issue is that he just spends money when told to and he happened to pick one of the more predatory gacha games.

Fair enough and very informative, like I said I just started playing it out of curiosity and haven't done much of it. And no, as far as I'm aware Phil never mentioned FEH, I only brought it up to say "Yeah, I could see how Phil could get addicted to something like this". I don't think Phil likes tactics, plus anime waifus don't get his dick as hard as wrastlers.

I think it's safe to assume he's on it any time he's in the bathroom. MrHuth noted an increase in DSP's event score before and after his mid-stream break (yesterday, I believe).

I’ve pretty much moved on from this thread but has there been any logins that might point towards this not being him? I really love the idea that despite knowing we found out about this account he doesn’t give a single fuck about throwing us off the trail and is just bullheading through like normal.

Wow. It's amazing how none of this exposure has made him suppress any of his activity in the game, both monetarily and playtime. Phil is definitely going to be in trouble when his spending is dissected

I feel like he was close to VIP 13 when this all broke out, as his account seems to be a similar power level to his guild mates, not to mention him being able to compete in game-wide events at a high level. But it seems clear that Phil has somehow rationalized that stopping his CT condo payments justifies spending hilarious amounts of money on this game.
