This one looks completely natural. Coronas wouldn't meet "my" standard for potential bioweapon. I might engineer a beauty - long incubation period with transmission possible before the person transmitting it shows symptoms, a week or more flat on your back & a loooong period needed to recuperate but viruses, especially RNA viruses; aren't known for following any agenda but their own which is simple - make more copies of themselves. RNA viruses are notorious for rapid mutation so the 'perfect' weapon I might create could, within a few generations of transmission, revert to a mere cold. Note I'm speaking theoretically; I have neither the education nor experience to do anything like that.

Cultural factors are definitely in play, 1 of the reasons western public health types keep a close eye on Asia. Human settings tend to be very crowded, sanitation sucks & livestock aren't as separate from humans as we are accustomed to. It is what it is & over time, some part of Asia, usually China, produces a real stinker... most dangerously novel flu strains come out of China & as we've now seen, (at least twice), 2 interesting iterations of coronavirus.

It takes the right bug, right population & right circumstances for a novel virus, (new to people anyway), to take off like this & humanity has survived far worse. So far, this virus is doing what I call "nibbling at the edges of humanity"... meaning it's killing the elderly, immune compromised; in short - the weak. Not trying to sound callous - most of us have loved ones who fit that categorization & sweating out a loved one's touch & go illness sucks the big one. Nobody wants that.

You miss an important thing about India being such a disgusting shithole. The result of living in said disgusting feces filled shithole has made it such that Pajeets are largely unkillable by biological means. And they can probably withstand more hard radiation than cockroaches. I mean they survive coming in contact with the Ganges routinely.

Doctors at hospitals are using surgical masks to treat the infected.

Those surgical masks are for blocking blood spatter. They don't do anything to stop airborne pathogens.

Those same doctors are treating people who are uninfected. Wait a couple weeks.

the sad thing is if you look, the masks you mostly see people wearing are actual surgical masks. Ie the ones OR staff wear to prevent them spreading germs (and spit) into the patient. They do remarkably little to prevent the wearer from breathing in the CoronaChan virus. They work in the wrong direction. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so terrifying,

This might be already stated by someone else but although India is a place full of horrible unsanitary conditions, the way they treat food preparation and what they eat on the whole helps to lower the risk of zoonosis and trans species mutation of virus's. all the stuff you can get from Goats, sheep and chicken are already common place for humans and we as a whole have adapted to them. you don't see Indians chowing down on Bats and Mice and shit. sure the bacteria run riot with the horrible hygiene standards that they run over there, but if you grow up covered in E'coli, your immune systems gonna fucking kick ass at fighting it.

Most of the diseases that fuck over westerners in India are things that already exist and pass person to person. Delhi belly, Giardia, E'coli and if you are really fucking unlucky, Typhoid.
