That seems like way too much forethought and planning for DSP. Like everything related to DSP's troubles, it stems from little to no impulse control and a need to have a complete disconnect from reality.

He probably wouldn't have even considered his compulsion as being an addiction, had detractors not made the link in the first place.

Then again, he's made some pretty oblique-yet-self-aware statements regarding mobile game addiction; much like a junky or drunk does who knows they have a problem, but haven't yet admitted to themselves how serious the problem really is.

His whole rant about being addicted to games sounded more like the closest thing to a serious cry for help, that DSP will ever make.

he has whaled out on atleast 3 or more mobile games, he should be aware by now, but I can only imagine the dopamine hit by spending thousands on gacha

he probably gets drunk and just spends

I think a main trait of addiction is regret, which he showed on the wwe supercard forum when he announced his retirement, but ended up returning

Every gambling addict that I've ever known has also been a problem drinker; the worst cases being guys who sat in their rooms and played online games.

I've had to babysit the finances of several who lived in the barracks, to the point where I had to have their room's internet cut off, and give them legit orders (under penalty of UCMJ) to not play ANY online poker/fantasy football. All of them failed to follow those orders, and had to be brought up on an Article 15 to make the point.

My drive-by theory is Phil is aware of this, and will try to use it as a defense in bankruptcy court. Gambling used to be no excuse, but there's a lot of activist/bleeding heart judges now that are willing to give people with gambling problems a lot more leeway.
that's assuming he admits he has a mobile game addiction to his lawyer. he may have already come up with a lie that he thinks is brilliant to explain what happened to all that money.

Maybe.... but it'd be less work (and probably more lucrative) to play up the addiction angle.

He wouldn't be the first junky to get booted into NA/AA by a judge; talk the talk when they need the pitybux or extra legal leeway, and but keep on operating as normal.

But it's gotten to the point in our society that when they're caught, they screech about addiction being a medical condition and are ultimately not responsible for their actions.

That type of addict almost exactly reminds me of Phil, precisely due to his favorite method for weaseling out of responsibility.

if he thinks he'll get something out of it, and he's not being recorded, he will make himself out as the most pussy of pussies
if he thinks saying he has an addiction will let him keep his wakhando, he will do it

He was already VIP 12, and we have no way of knowing how close to 13 he was. The $10k is the total amount needed to get to 13, but he could have spent that over time. This only indicates that he's probably still spending money. Exactly how much (recently) would be unknown.
According to that chart it takes $19,355 just to get from VIP level 12 to 13 by itself. Getting from VIP level 11 to 12 is what costs $10K, getting from VIP level 8 to 12 costs $19,621. It takes a total of $38,976 of in game purchases to go from VIP level 8 to 13.

In this video from March 30, 2018 it seems the new VIP features were very recently released and this guy talks about 'some previous purchases being applied to your new VIP level', so this would be around when the new VIP level cap was released. This guy is VIP level 7 in this video.

So now we have a nice timeline. It has been about 22 months since the new VIP level cap was released. This would average out to Phil spending $1,771.64 per month on WWE Champions from April 2018 through today, or $442.91 per week, or $63.27 per day, if you believe this is Phil as I do. If he was spending in splurges when he was flush with cash or an event was happening as seems to be the case the routine money dumps into the game would be lower with various spikes of splurge spending.

ETA: Maybe Kathy is actually helping out with bills and the extra money she's giving him is going schtraight towards half-naked hairy pixel-men. This would explain why her 2nd income isn't helping them at all, and Phil says he's only been making minimum payments on his credit card debt and loans and getting threats to send him into collections.

It makes me wonder that maybe it really isn't him.
Ever heard of sunk cost fallacy?
It's super easy to be a whale or even a dolphin in those gacha games while never thinking about seriously quitting the game, because you're already knee deep in shit by regularly investing money and time into a "long-term project".

If we're being honest, "DSPGaming" itself is a perfect case study of sunk cost fallacy (not trying to insinuate that Phil ever spent money outside of his Lemon PC to improve his content or gaming experience, but you get the idea).
Phil is too much of a wrestling fan and an addict to really quit this game. We're talking about a guy who developed wet brain because of his excessive alcohol abuse. He ticks all the boxes that make him an addict in denial, and that's in regards to both his drinking and poor spending habits.

Tons of gacha players are self aware about throwing money at jpg waifus.

I bet if someone trawled old posts on that wrassle discord theres tons of posts by Phil and other people making fun of themselves for whaling out.

Unless wrassle gacha fans are weirdly self serious they all know how fucking dumb it is at the end of the day. People meme about it all the time.

Phil's not so dense it doesn't sink into his terminology when he's talked about gacha in the past. Hell, calling the fucking game gacha is already a sign Phil's 'into' the culture.

Where'd he pick up the lingo? Maybe a discord channel?

Maybe.... but it'd be less work (and probably more lucrative) to play up the addiction angle.

If he tries that he'll find his creditors even less likely to extend any slack. Every bankruptcy lawyer is going to know that means it's time to go in hard for every penny you can get because the junkie piece of shit is actively destroying the estate every minute you let him go.

Shoutout to MrHuth (mrhuth2 on Twitter) for noting Phil's continued spending on the game:

I did wonder why his progression for this event was a bit stagnant, now he has fallen out of the top 100

probably cause he doesn't get his $10,000 check for 2 weeks

shoutout to mrhuth for keeping track

edit:

info about how to whale on the event, so i'm guessing his lack of leaderboard placement is due to not spending being a massive whale, still probably whaling though

How do adults watch anime or [insert sitcom].

With the right mindset wwe can be fun since its just Murrican Live Action Battle Anime.

Its clearly designed for kids/teens but when the storylines are (rarely) good it can be interesting in a dumb camp way and the stunt work is occasionally impressive.

Not sure if its still on Netflix but Lucha Underground was a short lucha series that did episodic storytelling well and its worth a gander if you want to 'get' wrestling (the first episode or two are rough til they start storylines).

I usually watch wrasslemania every year and its a good time with some beers.
Interestingly, WWE has so few young fans now that the average viewer of Raw is over 50 years old. So the question of why an adult would want to watch something with a storyline written at a 10-year-old's level when they're 50 or 60 is relevant (well, not relevant to Phil's mobile games spending, but some other discussion somewhere else).

On topic comment: Cash for store balance cards to spend online is how this is being funneled under the radar of bankruptcy, for the time being, is my guess.

Second one was the same guy as the first time, this one however is a new guy. First and second times were in the same city, plus I actually approached the first guy at the show the first time so I recognized him the second time...Small edit with more info:
First sign guy was in Denver, Colorado, Tonight's NXT show took place in Phoenix, Arizona.

Can you share any interesting tidbits about first DSP sign guy at all with us? Sounds more entertaining than the sports entertainment being presented that night I imagine.
