Canada... Can you just shut the fuck up and do what's sensible once in a fucking generation? Fucking once?
If we did, we'd actually have an army. And a Prime Minister who wasn't just voted in because he had his father's last name and wanted to make weed legal.

This one actually worries me more than swineflu and aviationflu did. Not completely sure why, but does not china seem more worried this time? Cant really remember my thoughts on the last scares cuz i smoke so much weed all the time and everything is hazy in my head. For you guys who followed swine and aviation flu progress in early state...is china taking it more serious now you think? I got gasmask and shit at home but no food, im bunkering up on Heinz baked beans tomorrow. I think maybe large farts can kill off lots of airborne viruses?
Oh China's worried, just not the government for some braindead reason.

It's amazing how social media seems to be a prominent contributor to social unrest and mass hysteria. It almost feels like it's made everything a lot worse. Hmmm...
Speed of communication between individuals is the most powerful and important invention of mankind. The only people who really think it's bad are the governments, like China, who are pants-shitting terrified of their fuck ups being widely known. A hundred years ago, you could wipe a town of the map with a group of soldiers and deny it ever happened. Today all it takes is one cunt with a smartphone to show the world an atrocity.

People panic, people get scared. Doesn't make any difference compared to live tv updates or radio.

News from Finland. A Chinese tourist on quarantine in lapland over corona suspicions

Edit: sauce

For non-fins

UPDATE:
Confirmed Corona case. First in Finland

Edit: Possibly 15 more

New info about the case. About the timeline of events

-The 32-year-old Chinese woman has been in Finland for a week. He arrived in Finland on a holiday on Thursday, January 23rd. She did not belong to a tourist group.

-The woman's journey began on January 22 in her hometown of Wuhan, China,

-From there, the woman initially flew to Beijing, China, where she stayed overnight. The next day he continued his journey to Finland. For the second time she changed her flight in Finland at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport

-According to Markku Broas, chief of infection at Lapland Central Hospital, there is only a "very small, small" risk that she would have infected people at the airport.

-Eventually, the woman's journey continued with a connection to Ivalo. The woman was staying at a resort in Saariselkä. She also visited the tourist destinations of Saariselkä, but no details of her movements on the spot have been made public.

-Eventually, the woman still residing in Saariselkä began to decline. The risk of infection is believed to have begun on Friday, January 24, shortly after her arrival.

-The first symptoms of the affected woman began on Sunday. They were very reminiscent of the common flu: she suffered from cough, rhinitis, congestion and fever.

-On Tuesday, the woman's condition turned worse when she had a high fever. The woman then contacted Ivalo's emergency department. On Wednesday, it was announced to the public that the first coronavirus infection has been detected in Finland.

-15 people have been exposed to the virus during the days spent by the woman around Saariselkä. According to Broas, there may be Finns among those exposed. However, most of them are foreign, but not all are Chinese. Not all those exposed have yet been reached. Broas says they will be contacted and instructed during Thursday.

-The woman is currently in relatively good shape and is able to report to the authorities about the passing days. She is warming up, but authorities say the woman's health does not require intensive care.

-According to THL, isolation is only released after the infected patient has given two clean test results.

It also spreads panic and disinformation (intentional and otherwise) at breakneck speeds.

It's great that Bad Things(tm) can be quickly documented, exposed and disseminated, but that old expression about how fast lies can travel compared to the truth comes to mind.

i wasn't worried about the swine or bird flu and never freaked out about ebola even though everyone i knew did but this time as soon as i heard about it my stomach instantly twisted. my gut is telling me this is far worse than any situation before this.

If you're still worried, smoke more. Don't let the chinese fear get to you. Isn't smoke useful as disinfectant against bad spirit?

I think we rounded up everyone of a single ethnic persuasion before, a good few decades back.
Are you talking about the internment of many ethnic Japaneses on the American mainland, which avoided the problem arising of collaboration of these Japanese with the nation of their people as occurred in the Pacific following the Pearl Harbor attack (c.f. Yoshio Harada)?

I mean it's no different from corporate media really, although arguably social media has made that situation even worse. c.f. the retards at CNN who posted that video from Knob Creek someone tweeted at them as 'Kurd on Turk' conflict.

Making the network of human civilization denser is great. Increases economic efficiency, prevents tyrannical governments from hiding things, gives the individual more information. Sure some people ruin themselves on it but they'd probably be fucked up anyway without it, just in a different way. The positives certainly outweigh the negatives.

For instance, without social media, we wouldn't easily be able to tell how much bullshit China was shovelling.

I'm probably being autistic but...
...What if this corona virus thing turns out to be a nothingburger? Wouldn't that
make 80% of this thread look like a bunch of pussy faggots?

I know some people are feeling bad for, maybe, overreacting. I am too.

But, to be fair, a pandemic Spanish flu level virus that is being covered by the Chinese government vs a nothing burger flu that, although still something to be careful, won't be a big ideal, in the long run, outside of China were, and still are, virtually indistinguishable when we first heard the news.

And everyone was, and some still are, talking based on suppositions more than hard evidence.

The France, Canada, and Germany cases is why someone mentioned before that its not okay to pretend everything is 100% fine, that this will be 100% nothing. Yes, we survived the swine flu and so on. Yes, our immune systems are better than the Chinese. Yes, this has a chance to be a nothingburger but shit like this relies on human stupidity to fuck shit up for the worse.
AND this is a new strain with zero herd immunity. Even if this happens to be nothing, this will stay with us for possibly years, not helped by the antivaxers around.
Yet when I mention about that last detail to friends and such, I get handwaved with "reports are fearmongering", "we survived the swine flu, this can't be worse", "this is all a smokescreen by the government" and etc.
It is okay to be a bit worried and be prepared, but damn it, muffling it all wouldn't do any good. Calm down others from panicking too much, keep an watchful eye, have some ready materials; and if this happens to be nothing, laugh with each other at being 'too overreactional', but know that your materials and watchful demeanor is always ready for the next big thing.

We're still mostly not talking about hard evidence because there's barely any outside of the highly suspect source that is the Chinese government.

That’s true, though my point is that most people on social media liked either the glamour of this being a huge crisis ( like that Harvard professor) and others just wanted to be smug and brag how much everyone was freaking out, except them.

I agree, We are still a bit in the dark, but I’m saying I just don’t think being scared was irrational because a lot of the early signs did sound worrisome.

I personally can’t wait until we can get actual facts from trustworthy sources.
