Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

It's late on my end to do more than just skim through for any key words to pop out at me, but this picture--bruh.

What are those fucking holes. That is not normal for a flu to do, is it? Is it?

Oh, since this has been on my mind, figured I'd bring it up. My mom's brought it up a couple times before, she just can't recall where she read it and I can't seem to find anything, but apparently there's a record of the American Indians during 1918 who didn't have as many casualties like in the cities and countryside (but smallpox blankets sure did the trick). The reason they managed to make it was because they'd crush and consume bits of aconite (known commonly as wolfs-bane), and the poison would make their immune systems go on high alert.

It's worth noting that a lot of homeopathic medicine uses it, which I know gets a bad rap because it seems a lot of folks pushing it have a disdain for modern medicine, but it's used to combat colds. I've taken some of the aconite before any time I'd get the sniffles and such, and within a few days it clears up. Coincidence or not, I just thought that'd be worth bringing up to see if it means anything. Been taking it again since this weekend, and while my cough hasn't gone away, it hasn't gotten worse, at least, and I don't cough as much throughout the day.

(Two-hour walk was normal today, there were no issues, so still in the green. Sure it doesn't mean much, but it's assuring to me.)
That’s how long a cold takes to get over. You wanna know how to get rid of a cough with OTC meds? Mucinex, combined with pseudo, and a nasal saline. Shit will be reduced in a day, and gone in like 2-3 depending on how bad it is. Doctor told me that combo and I always do that and clear the fuck up.

take real medicine ffs you remind me of chicks that put tea bags on their eyes for some infection and it goes away at the rate it would with no treatment. Then they claim how amazing it is!

I don't think this has been posted, so here's Japan confirming asymptomatic infection:

Japan confirms infections without symptoms

Japan's health ministry officials have confirmed the first two cases of coronavirus infection without any symptoms in the country. They say the cases without signs of infection are the first to be made public outside of China.
The ministry confirmed that three evacuees from the Chinese city of Wuhan have the new type of coronavirus.
The three individuals were among 206 passengers who returned to Japan on Wednesday on a government-chartered flight.

A man in his 40s and a woman in her 50s do not have any signs of infection, but they have tested positive.
Another man in his 50s reported pain in his throat and later developed a fever before testing positive.

The number of people in Japan who've been infected now stands at 11.
The virus was not detected in 201 other passengers from the same flight. Two passengers refused to take the test. And health officials say they will continue to persuade them to get tested.

The ministry says the confirmation of infections of two people who had not traveled to Wuhan proves person-to-person transmission in Japan.

But the ministry is urging the public not to be overly anxious, as the coronavirus has not spread over a wide area.

I'm in a rush, might come back and edit this later with archives if no one has archived yet.

More stuff from Germany:

TL;DR:

-The 80 'contact persons' of the people who got infected by the Chinese lady are now advised to stay at home to minimize the infection risk of other people

-They're bringing home 90 Germans from the infected area on Saturday - they're still debating where to locate them. They're not putting them in a proper quarantine, just keep them all in one location for two weeks.

-WHO has a crisis meeting
-Some companies abroad are closing up for some time
-170 confirmed deaths and 7k infected in China
-81k people under surveillance in China

---

Unconfirmed addition since I couldn't find a written source but heard it on the radio earlier: Apparently the passengers of a flight that landed from China yesterday in Germany didn't get screened for anyone from the Wuhan region and nobody was taking temperatures or anything.

I know, the latter is not reliable, but come on. At least take a look if anyone from Wuhan is on that flight and try to not make the mass hysteria here worse...

We're doomed

India recommends homeopathy to treat this virus

Well, in India, Ayurvedic Medicine(Indian traditional medicine) is recognized as full-blown science and has its own departments at the universities. I've visited one of these in the past, so I know this to be true.

On the other hand, it's interesting that India hasn't reported more about this disease. It's even worse hygiene standards than China, almost as great population density and even less educated people and worse medical facilities. If this virus is a real killer, Indians should be dropping like flies right now. Then again, it might just be that they don't even notice it, with how much people are dying all over India every day from this or that little disease.

Russia closes its frontier with China.

There's scam going around South Korea to get people to dox themselves to stop the spread of the WuFlu. Also, local resdents egg official over plan quarantine site. Finally, there are two more cases within the country.

Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia made a statement on the Corona virus situation, which except for the bit about the man currently in the hospital, isn't exactly reassuring.

Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen gestures during a speech on the current state of a new virus from China in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020. Cambodia's leader has urged citizens to remain calm ... more

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Cambodia's leader urged people Thursday to remain calm about the new virus from China while threatening to kick out reporters or officials seen wearing a face mask.

Prime Minister Hun Sen said in a live televised address that people should not be scared because the real illness they faced was fear, based on inaccurate information on social media.

"The prime minister does not wear a mask, so why should you be wearing a mask here," he said.

Hun Sen, who very actively posts on Facebook, was critical about misinformation about the virus on the social media site.

He said the scarier illness was the irresponsible sharing of stories online that caused people without understanding of the virus to panic.

Hun Sen appeared to be referring to unverified social media reports about sicknesses and deaths from the virus in Cambodia. The Southeast Asian country has reported one confirmed case, a Chinese man who traveled from the city hardest-hit by the outbreak.

Hun Sen also announced he would not ban direct flights between Cambodia and China, saying that would disturb relations between them and hurt the economy of the country, which hosts many Chinese investors and tourists. People should not discriminate against the Chinese, he said.

China's own efforts to curb travel were an effective measure against the disease, Hun Sen said. Several foreign airlines have cut or stopped flights to China on their own initiative.

Beijing is the main foreign supporter of Hun Sen's authoritarian government, supplying major amounts of aid and investment. Cambodia in turn supports China's position on issues such as the South China Sea, where Beijing's territorial claims overlap with other governments.

Hun Sen turned to a traditional saying to make the point that none of his countrymen have been reported to have caught the illness.

“Why would we need to be afraid of tiger's dung since we are not scared of the tiger?" he said. "There is no one who died, and not a single Cambodian contracting the virus, it happened only to a Chinese man."

The man, who had traveled to Cambodia from Wuhan, was now almost recovered, Hun Sen said.

God I rather panic than let my guard down and get infected.
People who try to downplay the virus needs to be injected full of it

I gave an example of Fukishima earlier in the thread of how panic did more harm than good. They raised the nuclear alert level above where it was supposed to be because of the media saying they weren't taking it seriously enough. People died because of the disruption resulting from the evacuations and separation of families. Nobody died from radiation. Yours is the logic of Extinction Rebellion - panic now because over-reaction is safer, disregarding the costs of that over-reaction.

I know it's hard for Internet commentators to sit back but I honestly believe that the experts in this field have the best idea of how to handle it.

Responsible panic isn't unwarranted.

No one's going to die because they had an extra week's worth of food and some water saved up in the pantry. Worst case scenario, that N95 mask becomes useful later on when you redo your favorite coffee table or something. Knowing the symptoms and what to do in case of illness during a possible epidemic spread (read: stay out of the hospitals unless you have to) isn't bad.

Beyond that, until the WuFlu hits your town, I'm not sure you the average person can do much at this point.

Besides, haven't the Chinese resellers stripped the stores of any supplies worth getting?

Looking at all the border crossings and air travel being shut down along with the quarantine in China it's hard for a reasonable person not to take precautions and stock up on essentials. Some of us have been through earthquakes, extended blackouts, hurricanes and even a couple of massive skyscrapers being toppled by terrorists to know being prepared is common sense.

Yeah, misinformation, panic... This thread has been going very fast, people panicking, even some people GASP encouraging racism and violence and against certain groups!

Null should shut the thread down. Not everything being discussed and believed in the thread is 100% accurate. Lies never spread quickly before the internet. Word of mouth is far more truthful than people typing and sharing video, and certainly cable television never spread lies to vast amounts of people all over the world causing wars and mass panic. Did you know Syria has weapons of mass destruction and that Russia hacked our election? Fucking Ruskies and their meddling.
I'm genuinely impressed at just how much effort you put into completely missing the point. Bravo!
