It's worth noting that a lot of homeopathic medicine uses it, which I know gets a bad rap because it seems a lot of folks pushing it have a disdain for modern medicine, but it's used to combat colds. I've taken some of the aconite before any time I'd get the sniffles and such, and within a few days it clears up. Coincidence or not, I just thought that'd be worth bringing up to see if it means anything. Been taking it again since this weekend, and while my cough hasn't gone away, it hasn't gotten worse, at least, and I don't cough as much throughout the day.

(Two-hour walk was normal today, there were no issues, so still in the green. Sure it doesn't mean much, but it's assuring to me.)

Aconite homeopathic pills or solutions contain no actual aconite, not even a molecule.

The idea with homeopathy is the more diluted, the more powerful a preparation, as they believe water has a 'memory' if anything it ever comes into contact with (if it did, your tap water would be the most powerful shit and urine solution ever). So they dilute a solution down thousands of times to the point there's nothing there, then drop a bit of that on sugar pills or in alcohol. So you're taking a placebo.

Homepathy is 18th century nonsense that appeared in a time where actually doing nothing was better than the other non-scientific medical treatments available such as bleeding people, or taking something like mercury pills, which tended to kill the patient. It's not even 'herbal medicine' as some people think - there is literally nothing of the substance claimed on the label in there. You get better because you were 'treating' a self-limiting illness - the common cold - that clears up in the same time frame without any treatment at all. There is no treatment for the 'sniffles' other than making yourself more confortable by limiting the expression of symptoms with decongestants and paracetamols etc tolower fever.

The first human-to-human transmission of the deadly Wuhan coronavirus has occurred in the U.S., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday.

The respiratory virus was spread from a woman from Chicago who had recently traveled to China and gave it to her husband after she returned, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said.

It's the sixth confirmed case of the new coronavirus, or 2019-nCoV, in the U.S.

In addition to Illinois, other cases have been confirmed in California, Arizona, and Washington state. Worldwide, the Wuhan coronavirus has spread to at least 20 countries since it was identified last month, the CDC says.

Illinois health officials are currently investigating 21 other possible cases in the state. The CDC says the relatively few people who have been identified as close contacts of people with confirmed coronavirus infections should follow the guidance of their doctors and health departments.

The CDC says members of the public do not need to wear masks out of concern for the coronavirus.


To reduce the chance of spreading any respiratory illness, the CDC recommends that people take simple steps such as washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and avoiding close contact with anyone who is sick.

People returning from Wuhan and other areas of high-risk in China should be vigilant for signs of illness, including fever and cough, according to the CDC. Those people should call their health care provider if symptoms do develop.

True. But what info caused the panic? I'd ask you to consider that on Sunday night, it was reported that this virus spreads during incubation. That is the most alarming statement made in the history of viruses in the last 40 years. there has never been a coronavirus that does this.

So alarm based on an officials statement is highly acceptable. Now, is that statement true? If it isn't then the panic is entirely unwarranted. If it is, then the alarm and panic we are seeing is far below what it needs to be.

So yeah, compare apples to apples when you've got apples, but we got apples and bananas here according to some. To be verified. If we want to blame alarming reports, then we should go to the major news sources in every country - including the reputable ones that ran with the Chinese Health statement about the infectious nature during incubation. The greatest source of alarm isn't from FB, Social Media, Blogs or forums like this - it is this time the media, mainstream and otherwise running with dubious statements for effect. Shame on them for not asking more about it. Shame on WHO, China and the CDC for not providing any answers and when pressured, giving more dubious answers that assist in spreading alarm.

I know one of the things that caused panic with swine flu was that it was killing the young and healthy. And not just that it could kill the young but that that was the majority of who was dying. People were scared it was going to be another Spanish flu.

We don't really have the information yet to know if Wu flu is mostly killing the elderly and infirm, but if it turns out to be killing a lot of young people, I think we're going to see people start to panic.

Well, India already reported about 600+ cases in the state of Kerala alone, so no, containment possibilities at least for them are long gone. There is no conceivable way to stop the spread in the conditions of India. Too much people, too bad hygiene, too little common knowledge about diseases etc.

If you read this thread fully a lot of Kiwifarms members reveling in a worse case scenario, and just want to see the world burn. But personally I doubt no more than 2% of the population will die from this disease. Still a lot of deaths, 90% of them will be in china, but not to hard to recover from, at least in developed nations.

It is looking at the ratio of ACE II genotype over the ACE II + ID +DD. I = insertion, D = deletion at the 16th intron. ACE II =/= ACE2. Those are different genes, they are not even located on the same chromosome!
