Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Oh really? I think they've said repeatedly that surgical masks won't prevent infection, N95 won't prevent infection, and although both are better than nothing N100 is the ideal option

Who are "they?" Dale Gribble? 4chan?

N95 prevents 95% of particles over 0.3 microns in size. N100 prevents 99.7%. Wow! Too bad viruses are smaller than that. Except when they're bound up in droplets. Which a surgical mask can catch.

Also it doesn't matter because it's going to be on your clothes anyway.

Germany again. The 6th infected here is now confirmed.
(no translation this time since there's no other relevant or new info in the whole article)

Remember the kid of the infected guy I talked about earlier? Here.
Exactly that one is now confirmed to have the virus. So does his wife and two other of his kids, according to the article.

Well, how much do you guys want to bet that this kid infected the whole kindergarten and it will just spread like crazy from there?

This is the thing that really makes me angry in this thread, I mean the whole thread makes me angry but this REALLY makes me angry. It's anti-vaxer levels of stupid. There's absolutely no reason that child should have been sent back to school, wtf, little children are germ magnets to begin with. Now you've got an entire school whose been put at risk, with who knows how many immuno-compromised children in that building. The second they had an idea that there was even an iota of a possibility it was being passed when the person was showing little to no symptoms that whole family should have been placed in a long term quarantine.

Any children or adults who may die as a result of this is on the head of whoever ok'd the family to be allowed to continue on as if nothing is happening and especially allowing a child that had a high possibility of developing the sickness to return to an environment that is notorious for everyone getting whatever bug comes into the building.

Yeah, yeah, mainstream news, I tried picking sources not particularly well-known for wokeyness. Because of my OCD I pretty much never deliberately touch my own face, so apparently I'm golden barring accidents.

2 cases in the UK confirmed - http://archive.li/r561f

2 cases appear to be confirmed by the Russia's vice-PM.

And yesterday, our national flag carrier has evacuated Ukrainians from the affected area.

It was nice knowing you, Kiwifriends.

Two cases in Russia are chinese citizens. They are both in stable condition.
The two cases were discovered in different parts of the country, one in Tyumen region in west Siberia, the other in Russia's Far East, Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova said.

Airlines to and from China are heavily restricted from midnight on Friday.

So it has been revealed the two UK cases are in York which for those who don't know, is a lovely old historical walled 'city' (really a town) in Yorkshire basically famous for vikings. It has a huge tourist industry. It also has its annual huge Jorvik Viking Festival in a couple more weeks which will bring thousands into the city for reenactments and the viking markets etc. They won't say but they are obviously Chinese tourists. York gets overrun with tour groups from all over, including Asia.

A mate who lives there told me she saw a mass of hazmats around the hotel this morning and the place all sealed off. Apparently they've dragged the afflicted off to the hospital other side of the country and the hotel is being disinfected. Properly, I hope. Fuck knows how many people these idiots have been in contact with - York is fucking CROWDED at the best of times - the centre has some famously cramped medieval streets that get packed ... as do many of the attractions.

I am supposed to be going there in a few weeks, ffs. Fucking Chinks.

Scoreboard so far outside China:

This is why we don't let goats on the computer.

There was one case report I saw where someone started coughing up blood. This was also seen in H1N1. It's rare but not really unusual or unmanageable. Maybe sucks if it happens to you though.

The thing about coughing up or vomiting blood is it is almost always misreported, because normal people don’t know what they are looking at, or what these events actually look like. If someone is coughing up what looks to clearly be blood to a casual observer it typically means they burst a blood vessel in their sinuses. Just a nosebleed but deeper in. Actual coughing up of blood from the lungs or pulmonary passages is a kind of frothy pink foam. It doesn’t look like blood. Similarly when vomiting blood it looks like lumpy black coffee grounds because the blood conceals on contact with stomach acids. Anything coming out of the mouth or nose that looks like normal red blood is coming from somewhere in the head.

Just want to give a big thanks to everyone who's posted in this thread. Between all our contributions, believe we have a very good source of news, information, advice and opinions. Have found this very beneficial. Let's hope this doesn't turn into another 1918 flu, or worse. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. And maybe a prayer for those in China, because am certain things there are a quantum leap worse than reported. 👍

Uncle Joe

Added...speaking of China, in ancient times societies facing a thing of this nature would sacrifice an animal to the gods to make it stop. Now we have Emperor Xi sacrificing a number of his people to save face. The emperor has no clothes, indeed.

I woke up with a cough yesterday. Woke up with a hacking cough that hurts like a bitch today.
Semper Fi you crazy fucks. Don't blame Null for taking our hazmat suits, they all had holes in them anyway.
Not sure if old, but:

Thank you for your kind words, Stalin I shall light a candle for you.

Just make sure your lungs aren't filling with fluid or whatever, Also The whole throwing animals out windows thing 'almost' made me very pissed but then I just chilled out a bit instead of daring to make some autistic spreging post.

And if you are bleeding inside that blood will look like coffee grounds in your shit. Again, stomach acids. If you see blood on the toilet paper when wiping your ass it's going to be a hemorrhoid, but not internal bleeding.

Sorry for the double post - the two posts don't mix at all.

"In the episode titled 'The Next Pandemic' the documentary producers go to a wet market in Lianghua, China, where animals are killed and the resulting meat sold in the same place.

This, the documentary explained, makes the wet markets a 'disease X factory' as the different animal corpses are stacked on top of each other, blood and meat mixing, before being passed from human to human."

To be fair, EVERYONE could tell that. Just check kitchen nightmares. If china had followed even ONE of the plentiful regulations the west implements to stop the spread of infections this shit wouldn't be going THIS wrong.

Well you answered yourself. Just to be clear: even on totally unbiased matters, mainstream journos NEVER double check their sources, falsify their data or conduct ANY peer review, which means that from a scientific standpoint they ALWAYS lie, even when it just so happens that their lies coincide with the truth, because they can't ever tell when that happens.

In this case, there's so many things much more important than the masks' 2.5% better result. Most infections come from not replacing masks enough, issues handling it when replacing it, people touching their face, clothes, etc. Sure the others are better but its enough.

CNN is being widely-mocked for a report knocking the Trump administration for its "lack of diversity" in the task force combatting the coronavirus -- with a former CNN pundit even pointing out the network’s own lack of diversity.

In an "analysis" piece, CNN national political writer Brandon Tensley sounded the alarm after President Trump tweeted out photos from a briefing he had on the deadly virus that is spreading across the world, saying "we have the best experts" who are monitoring the situation.

"Who are these experts? They're largely the same sort of white men (and a couple [of] women on the sidelines) who've dominated the Trump administration from the very beginning," Tensley complained.

The CNN writer then compared Trump's male, pale, team to a photo taken of former President Obama's during the 2014 Ebola outbreak.

"By contrast, former President Barack Obama's circle of advisers in the face of the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa was hardly so monochromatic," Tensley wrote. "Neither was it so abysmal in terms of gender diversity (Of course, to contextualize, Obama's administration, on the whole, was far more diverse than Trump's.). And yet, as unsurprising as the diversity conversation in the Trump era has become, it's still worth pointing out from time to time, especially as the country approaches the 2020 presidential election in earnest."

Tensley assessed that the images "telegraph the sorts of people the administration is deemed worthy of holding power- and even being in close proximity to it," later adding, "the visuals that have come to define the Trump administration say something else, too. They signal the kind of people in a multi-racial country Trump values the opinions of: mostly white men who are mirror images of the President himself."

The report was slammed on social media.

"So just to get this straight, CNN is objecting to a task force designed to stop an epidemic by focusing on...ethnic diversity?" Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro asked.

"Your Trump hatred at CNN is a real cancer to our body politic. This means absolutely nothing in terms of being able to stop a deadly virus. I'm pretty sure the #coronavirus doesn't care that this room isn't 'diverse,'" NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck reacted.

"If Trump used an executive order to deploy resources for research that cured coronavirus, CNN would publish editorials on his 'authoritarian tendencies in addressing public health,'" radio show host Buck Sexton tweeted.

Some even compared the article to satire.

"Literally thought this was a Babylon Bee headline when I first saw it," Daily Caller editor Peter Hasson said about the popular conservative satirical website.

"CNN is trying to put @TheBabylonBee out of business by making the network impossible to parody," Federalist co-founder Sean Davis similarly tweeted.

"You guys are the reason people can’t distinguish between satire and reality anymore," conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey told the anti-Trump network.

Perhaps the biggest criticism came from former CNN commentator Steve Cortes, who pointed out the network's lack of diversity on-air.

"And what exactly does race have to do with fighting a deadly virus? Also, as long as @CNN wants to play quota games: why does the network have a grand total of 1 minority anchor across all the weekday shows? And, not one Hispanic? Colorless News Network?" Cortes reacted.

Last year, CNN took heat from the NAACP over a lack of minorities in executive positions.

“It is vital that news organizations reflect the diversity of our country, which includes people of color in key decision-making roles which are responsible for shaping news coverage and providing nuanced perspectives, especially around issues directly impacting Black America,” the NAACP said in a statement. “CNN’s lack of black representation in leadership roles is troubling and another example of the media industry’s reluctance to address an issue that continues to plague newsrooms across the country.”

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) also expressed concerns. A 2018 study by TheWrap indicated that CNN had “significantly fewer women serving in visible on-air roles than either Fox News or MSNBC.”

Welp, if Corona-chan is that hard to stop then I can count myself lucky nobody's -- aw shit tourism is on the upswing again. I'm a quasi-NEET who only goes outside for college, so I think my chances are good ;)

But on a more serious tone, doctors are taking surgical bed canvas and goddamn document folders to serve as masks.

Finally, a video from this Tweet as food for thought. The dead fella was lying there for two hours with around 15 ambulances passing by and nobody even gave a fuck.*sigh*

Two thoughts.

First, am sure the PLA has plenty of medical supplies, such as masks, gowns, and gloves in their war reserve supplies. All units/bases would have a stock. Would also guess there are depots with much more. You have to, if you have a large force. Are those stocks being distributed downtown? If not, why not? Nobody's coming to invade.

Second, the bottom video reminds me of similar scenes in Leningrad during the war, in the Ukraine during the Holodomor, and places like the Warsaw Ghetto. You're seeing man's inhumanity to man. They just don't care now.
