Yeah. If we had the bomb ready in January 1945 Germany would have gotten a couple.
Dropping the atomic bomb saved maybe millions of lives, both Allied and Japanese. We were preparing for invasions of the Japanese home islands. Very heavy casualties expected. So many Purple Heart medals were prepared in advance that we are still using them today.
Would say this about Imperial Japan. Earlier in the 20th Century they treated POWs quite well. They captured Russians during the 1905 Russo-Japanese War. Japan was on our side in WWI. Captured Germans when they overran German possessions in Asia. Those men were taken to Japan and treated almost as honored guests.
