Copper is well known as a bactericidal surface. Large copper vessels for keeping water in are common (in India i think, ironically) and after a few days of storage kill large amounts of bacteria. Obviously it’s not something you want to keep anything below neutral pH in but copper vessels have been used for a very long time. I’m sure I’ve read trials of copper surfaces in hospitals too...

So similar to Silver then.

Edit: I'm blaming black Russians for my inability to see what I'm quoting.

I've tried it a few times. First character lasted a grand total of 30 seconds before a zombie hulk smashed him to a pulp. My goal is to one day have a character that can survive a single ingame day.

Just like with the plague, stay away from population centers if not equipped and there's never a shame in running away. Besides that, I don't think I've ever seen a game that lets you start in so many different ways. Wanna start as alcoholic, schizophrenic hobo? No problem. Wanna start as a school kid having to flee out of a zombified school? No problem. Wanna start as military with full gear? No problem. Wanna start as crazy prepper in your compound away from civilization one year into the crisis? No problem. Wanna start as a cybernetic mercenary, complete with implants, right out of a William Gibson novel? No problem. You see where I'm going here. I've not given the game enough credit in how detailed it is I think. Also the most autistic modeling of carrying stuff and variety of guns since jagged alliance. (or so I think) Also from base building to vehicle building, fixing and modding it really has everything. I can just recommend everyone to check it out. I haven't played it in a while, I heard it even has NPC factions now and you can start your own NPC base.

What has stricken me since the beginning with this crisis is that if the numbers are not accurate, and I can imagine they're not, especially the people sick - not even out of malice, I imagine that shit could be hard to track to begin with - it is more likely to turn out less deadly than more deadly. I feel death numbers, even if under-reported, are a lot more hard to fudge in general and easier tracked accurately. If a lot more people are really infected and not a whole lot more people are really dead, then that would actually mean the virus is less deadly than statistics indicate. I could imagine tons of people in china went through the whole thing complete with recovery without ever even having seen a doctor, as it's even not very deadly if the numbers would be 100% accurate, which they aren't at least in the "people infected" way.

Public transit is also such a huge factor in europe and other parts of the world, which is sometimes hard to picture for americans, which is why I mention it. Millions of people use overfilled busses and trains to get to work and from work each day everywhere in europe. If that thing was as deadly or as virulent as some doomers believe, it'd be everywhere by now. There'd be literally no point closing borders at this point. It just simply isn't.

- Deadly coronavirus outbreak ravaging significant areas of land
- Over half the country under some type of quarantine
- Doctors and nurses completely overwhelmed, undermanned, and have next to nothing in terms of medication or protective gear
- Swine flu obliterating pig populations
- Bird flu doing the same to chicken and duck populations
- Locust swarms arriving from Africa
- Makeshift hospitals made hastily revealed to be terribly constructed
- Medical supplies being hijacked by governments or held by Chinese Red Cross
- Increasing unrest and panic amongst citizens, people locked inside homes and arrested by police for not wearing masks
- Chinese economy merely alive due to hundreds of billions of Yuan in funding by the Chinese government
- CCP still getting blown under the office desk by the WHO, all is well in maintaining face

Yep, China's fucked.

Not just China.

Based on the numbers reported, about 14% of the infected who show identifiable symptoms need hospital care. The newest estimates of infection rates being higher than smallpox, I'd expect uncontained COVID to eventually infect 90% of the population. If we take an optimistic assumption that 1/3 infected is asymptomatic, then that leaves ~8.4% of the population who will need hospital care, or about 31,000,000 people in the USA for roughly 970,000 licensed hospital beds. That's just beds. That 's not O2 or respirators or anything else. I don't expect everyone to need hospital care at once, but supplies are already a problem, and that's not getting better soon.

This is not the flu, or a flu. It's not influenza of any sort. This is a bioweapon loose in a population of tens of millions and some of you reading this message will be dead from it by summer. Not me though. God loves my ass.

Guys, I really, really advise you to not listen to Jim, lol. He's fun and all that, but he's become quite a doomer about this. I think I already said this, but I'll say it again.

Yes, it's not THE FLU™,....

I hate jokesplaining but here goes.
Jim got into a spat on Twitter with a cow named "Dr." Eugene Gu who claimed for the first 2 weeks or so that the normal seasonal influenza was a better waifu than Corona Chan with a higher death toll, and that this wouldn't be a big deal.

Returning to the "it's just a flu" is a running gag that gets funnier as the WuFlu racks up the numbers.
It may end up being less than the seasonal flu purely on the number of dead but the economic damage on this will be felt for years.

I really hope that tons of offshoring and dropshipping assholes go bust and after the initial pain local manufacturing picks up again.

Wonder how long the Chinese govt can keep the economy from tanking before they run out of cash? Or is now the time for them to collect on the loans to the US?

China owns about $1.11 trillion in U.S treasury securities (5 percent of the total U.S National Debt) as of 2019. It's probable they could easily find buyers for those securities but doing so would probably lower the dollar's value and cut their ability to undercut U.S production cost which is the foundation of their economy.

Eh, might be a net gain. China's economic practices are a local minimum for the world economy. Inescapable in the short term, but bad in the long term.

I know that, but he also seems to have taken a very catastrophic approach to it. I know he likes trolling and autistic people, but he definitely needs to calm down a bit.

Berkley News article
Coronavirus: Fear of Asians rooted in long American history of prejudicial policies
was written 2.12 but the page wasn't archived so maybe it's not posted here yet.

If the title and the source didn't give it away, some of the main topics of the article are activism, diversity, race and ethnicity.

The horror
"From denigrating social media memes and GIFs to incidents of outright prejudice around the world, many Chinese people, and people of Asian descent perceived to be Chinese, are being avoided and blamed for spreading the pneumonia-causing virus, which originated in Wuhan, China."

According to John A. Powell
"...thinking about the infected and how we can help as a global society is important. He said changing the way we describe people from other cultures and countries is a step in the right direction."
“Sometimes they’re Muslim, sometimes they’re black, sometimes they’re Mexican, sometimes they’re Asian,” powell said. “But there is no them. There’s only us, and we have to figure out how to go forward where everybody belongs and nobody dominates. Not blacks, not whites, not Christians, not Muslims. No group dominates.”

Kumbaya bigots.
