Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

This makes no sense at all. Recently there was a news item about just how securely quarantined personnel were housed at March AFB. It's here, earlier in this thread. Sounds like Travis needs a new base commander. Stay safe.
I just found out that the security posted in the quarantine are just that; in the quarantine. It still seems like there's no SF on the perimeter but can't confirm 100%. At the very least, there's not enough security for it to be casually noticeable. So far as I've found, just a few unis with masks made to be uncomfortably close to the sickies.

Edit to keep from double-posting
It’s the cruise ship passengers the US brought back.
Yes, and the cruise refugees got here a long time ago. Same group of people, more confirmed infections among them.

if I get sick with wu flu I'm not coming back until I don't have it or I die. if I die kiwis tell my ex nigga please. Not that I'm likely to get it if I stay in my hotel room and avoid social contact from the local populace. shit I even packed instant food stuffs and water and drinks so I don't have to go out to eat. I'm literally looking at 2 weeks of social isolation even looked like a jack ass on my flight. it was uncomfortable to sleep with my mask gloves sunglasses and coat on. I'm even showering and changing out my clothes every time I come back. I only have 2 meetings but my boss told me stay 2 weeks because of the risk I may catch it. my hospital is paying for it.

A thought just occurred to me. The Wu Flu presents a golden opportunity for the left to reinforce the "Diversity is our strength" message. China is basically an ethnostate, so once a new virus adapts to infect one chink the entire population is vulnerable to it so it spreads like wildfire. It's like those banana breeds that get wiped out every few decades by disease because they're clones. They could conveniently ignore the god-awful sanitation in China, all the garbage that comes with communism, their quasi-medieval markets and the fact that more than half of their men smoke and say that the REAL reason it's not catching on in the West like that is because we're so genetically diverse that we get partial herd immunity to any pandemic that comes along.

But nope, they're too busy saying it's just a flu bro and worrying about it is wayciss.

According to this and other news pieces, they were all cleared with no cases, hence their release almost a week ago. I don't know if I'm allowed to take or post photos of the QZ here, but I'll try to find out this evening. I do need to avoid doing anything to get myself or anyone involved IRL into trouble.

Edit
Supposedly the quarantined people here at Travis were already released according to an article I just saw, but it doesn't make any sense. There were confirmed cases and there's no way there wasn't any mingling before 14 days of quarantine were completed. The article is 4 hours old.

The depths of hell required for your average Russian to declare a fuck it are frightening.

I'm phone-posting and can't figure out how to format strikethrough.

Here's what I believe happened in Russia. The Russian Intelligence Service has, of course, been paying very close attention to the situation in China. They have access to information and data the average person does not. Would expect they have numerous informants within China passing along info.

Today's Russian Intelligence is no longer imbued with Communist philosophy. They're just doing a job for their boss, Putin. Putin knows he needs the straight stuff to make decisions, especially big ones like closing the borders to Chinese. So believe he gets a good finished intelligence product. He'll also be getting with the appropriate ministers, especially those in charge of the national health system, the foreign ministry, and the border guards.

Same thing is happening here in the USA, England, Canada, Japan, France, Spain, Italy and any other major power that has a stake in what's happening in China. Very likely some level of information-sharing is going on among these countries. Would be stupid if this didn't happen.

Having said that, don't be too surprised when President Trump stays noncommittal or mouths some bromides re the Chinese situation. What is said in public and what is said in private are often two different things. And the leaders of the major powers are all going to speak in the same way. They have to work with Emperor Xi, and that won't happen if they are publicly bashing him. But behind closed doors there has to be a bit of schadenfreude. Am sure this is the case in Hanoi. China has done its' best over the years to intimidate Vietnam, to little avail. "Well, well. The Chinese let a biological weapon out of a lab. They can't manage their labs. They can't take care of their sick people. Things in China are going from bad to worse. And we're supposed to be afraid of them? Fuck that!"

On a side note, if you would, consider what's been posted in this thread, including all the comments about Xi. If we were in China we'd be posting in peril for our lives. Many of us would be in jail or dead. China has no rule of law. It has no First Amendment or equivalent. I know nothing will happen to me, no matter what I post in this thread. Yet Chinese are daily risking it all to get the word out. Saw a Chinese lady last night deliver an impassioned, savage criticism of how the Xi regime has handled the virus pandemic. She expects to be caught, possibly killed, but she does her best to put the lie to CCP propaganda. The CCP has long since lost on this and they know it. They are likely concerned that people in Hong Kong watch these videos and will become even more emboldened in their pro-democracy activities. Freedom of speech - we should appreciate it, not take it for granted.

How much worse would it be if Putin decides to borrow Eisenhower's playbook and do a Russian version of Operation Wetback on the Chinese fleeing into Russia?

I'm quite worried about Behringer's ability to deliver on all of the cheap reissues of vintage synths they've promised.

Taiwan has come out as one of the bigger winners in all of this.

Bold is mine:

Apple moving production from China to Taiwan due to Wuhan coronavirus
Apple shifting manufacture of AirPods, iPad, Apple Watch from China to Taiwan due to ongoing outbreak

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — As the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread in China, Apple is moving the manufacture of some of its top devices to Taiwan.

Apple has begun to move the production of a number of its top gadgets set to launch in the first half of 2020, according to a report by am730, which cited DigiTimes. The products listed in the report to be shifted to Taiwan include AirPods Pro Lite, iPads, and Apple Watches.

Apple is trying to diversify its supply chain geographically due to the spread of the virus, which has seriously affected the production of Apple products in the communist country. Apple intends to gradually increase the proportion of production in Taiwan while still trying to maintain its cooperation with suppliers on the other side of the strait.

It is estimated that at least one-third of China's production lines will lay idle in the first quarter of this year, and it would be almost impossible to return to the normal level of production before the end of February. It is also doubtful whether normal production could be resumed within the first ten days of March.

However, the report did not mention additional details about Airpods Pro Lite. Apple launched the Airpods Pro, which have an active noise cancelation function, in October last year.

In March of 2019, Apple introduced a slightly improved second generation of AirPods. It is speculated that Apple will be releasing its third-generation AirPods early this year.

He means like, those things that Moroder uses to make music.

You gotta admit, my version of an Army of Cheap Chinese made Android killing machines servants is much much cooler.

Gee, you think maybe Apple and Foxcon are really wishing they had finished that US manufacturing plant they promised Trump they would build, by now?

I will tell your ex, Niggaplease.

So I noticed that the US cases went from 15 to 29 yesterday evening. I can't find anything about this on google news however. Does anyone know anything?

Thats the guys from the jap cruise ship that the government mistakenly allowed on the plane.

Yep, it doesn't matter how much you're willing to pay fr footwear unless you're in the 1% who can afford custom made Saville Road shoes made by hand. Eeven old-school old reliable brands that were once a mark of quality and product longevity now outsource to the cheapshit economies and have suffered a marked drop in quality.

China, Vietnam, Brazil, India are all part of the supply chain for brands such as Clarks, Doc Martens etc, and the outsourcing away from Britain was always accompanied by a marked drop in quality while prices continued to rise, which is the part that always infuriated me. Don't ask £200+ for boots you made for a tiny fraction of what you used to pay to manufacture them, drop the prices or GTFO. Fly London which made great boots moved a lot of manufacturing from its old factories in the cheap end of the EU (Portugal, with its high unemployment and super-shit wages, but good standards of product) to even shitter wages and fuck-you type manufacturers in China and lo and behold produced boots whose soles fell off, that let in water in mild rain and which didn't last a year. They lost their reputation with the move to China with a lot of former fans swearing off their product for life after purchasing one of their Made in China libes, but I'm sure it was all worth it for the extra profits in the short term.

I hate it when people say you get what you pay for. You don't anymore, that's the issue. You pay for branding and many firms are happy to trade on their old image of quality while being no better than any other fast fashion manufactuer anymore. I am quite happy to shell out three figures for boots that will last years and years and will just need occasional resoling. I'm not happy to pay that for boots which don't last all that much longer than ones that cost 1/5 of the price or whose zips will break and require expensive replacement sooner rather than later.

I saw that Clarks brough a little manufacturing back to the UK in 2018 in response to people twigging onto their whole made in China shit and losing trade. The vast bulk of their shoes and boots are still made in poverty holes though, their quality reflects it while the prices don't and it irks. You can buy better boots secondhand on ebay than available in shops now if you're prepared to wait and buy classic older products with a little wear.

In the US you can still purchase high-quality boots that are made in America. Nicks, White's, and Thorogood just to name a few. I still have a pair of Nicks I purchased over a decade ago for wildland firefighting.

There's still exceptional quality to be had. And honestly, the world of hiking boots and shoes are a far superior market now than they were even half a decade ago.

Making your own is cheaper than you'd likely think and the best possible way to feed your cats and dogs. Don't bother with the organic-label chicken and crap, just stock up on sale raw chicken breasts, chicken hearts and water-canned skipjack (chunk light) tuna without additives. Precooked salad shrimps can also be shockingly cheap at times. Just be sure to check sources and additives. You'll also likely end up eating more lean, healthy meat in the process.
My folks had a dog with a tender tummy so they boiled the shit out of chicken breasts for her, fed them to the cat too. afaik both liked them just fine.
