The coronavirus poses a global health risk that’s more important than appeasing a major donor to the agency.

If by "being polite" they mean "having china's hand so far up their ass it's coming out their mouth and controling them like the muppets they are" I'd agree but really I'd be ok if instead of stopping that they'd just loose their funding already.
Seriously the WHO is actually damaging to science. Funny thing about the scientific method, while it is true that global communications have certainly aided a lot and man inter-country organizations have done great advances that wouldn't be possible to finance with a single state's funding, orgs like WHO who DON'T actually do anything impossible at the state level and instead seek to control and arbitrate the discourse only fucking hurt. Because the reason why global commms have aided science so much is that it both added that element of cooperation between a much larger pool AND an element of competition that keeps state orgs and smaller unis fighting against each other and having to double check their results or risk getting surpassed and bankrolled.
One of the reasons food ingredients are controlled much better is the fact that orgs like the FDA keep popping up on developped countried and DOUBLE CHECKING EACH OTHER. So if the canadian org, the german org and the american org say different shit scientists start making papers trying to find the source of the discrepancy because they're worried if their country is the one that's wrong they'll suffer from it. This can NEVER happen with the WHO. Even without china. Because its global, it seeks to make its standard the ONLY standard and make sure everyone agrees with it, and therefore doesn't have the same level of required veracity as the local level.
Even flr the good orgs like the ISO who I aint got nothijg but praise for so far. The reason they're that good is that in the end most is actually handled at the local level by state authorities who have their own standards using the ISO as a template and they've been PROMOTING that instead of fighting against it. The WHO on the other hand sure is quick to threaten sanctions if you close airports to china. That's a huge ass difference.
Same thing for everything folks. You always need cooperation, but you also always need competition. Loose the first one you're going much slower loose the second you're not going thoroughly enough. This is why while SOME good comes of globalism the actual ideology fucking sucks and needs to die already. I will be the first to admit I have to be somewhat happy european courts have been cleaning the PP's and PSOE's corruption and censorship. (And seriously as much shit as I give europe's executive and legislative, their judicial has been doing an awesome job of persecuting these bastards. I have some anecdotes if you want but suffice to say, certain orgs like the SAS and ISCIII are REALLY happy about the work done by europe's courts, like holy shit you have no idea how good it feels after taking shit from the ministry for years suddenly having europe just check your status and give them a visit like "no, that's illegal, if you do it we WILL undo it and sanction you for it.) But that doesn't mean the bullshit the rest of them put us through gets a pass. Even hitler did some good things. That won't make me praise the bastard taking into account how he handled freedom of speech. Or the fact that he didn't realize just how smarmy, stupid, egotistical and backstabbing franco was until AFTER he'd put him in power. God damnit at least you could've left us with a better dictator.
