Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

It would really boil down to who is giving the orders and why. Its hard to say how the Army would go because every situation that could potentially trigger such a scenario would be unique unto itself. IMO though the default would be to obey the chain of command as long as the chain of command remained loyal to the duly elected leadership. Mainly, the President. So any sort of small scale secessionist movement and so on would get put down pretty fast if the President says "stop them".

What could cause some shit though would be a disputed election, like with the bullshit electoral college interstate compact. Now that is a recipe for some shit. Especially if an electoral college majority gets overturned by a narrow popular vote win courtesy of California like what we had in 2016. You could conceivably see half the States refuse to accept the authority of the "winner". Another thing that could cause some shit is a "palace coup", where a sitting President is deposed for being "mentally incompetent" under the 25th amendment, or a double impeachment of both the President and the Vice President. Basically anything that could cause the authority of the chain of command to come into dispute.
In other words, legitimacy. Which is why the efforts by the butthurt TDS gang to modify the electoral college are not only dumb but self destructive.

I remember that video from early on with the guy testing blood samples and the corona virus one was nearly black. Please medical kiwis, correctme if I'm wrong, but could that be caused by lack of oxygen in the blood? I seem to remember blood (hemoglobin) is red because oxygenation.

Apparently they can pump 100% oxygen into someone but the cells/blood aren't picking it up:

Yes, especially since this Italian guy is in serious conditions, just like the Chinese, as opposed to most of other cases affecting Europeans, where either the symptoms were very mild (I am thinking in particular at the first German infected who experienced bronchitis-like symptoms for a couple of day, went back to work as he was fine and was reported positive to the virus only because they tested everyone who got in contact with the Chinese brat who upon her return in China could no longer hide her own symptoms) or anyway never so severe to require ICU, mechanical ventilation and so on... so he can work as a proper, although limited, reference case.
Are we sure this guy is ethnically Italian or European? Here in Canada during SARS, all but one of the 40 deaths were Asian Canadians. We called them Canadians, because they were. The Canadian media tends not to report race in regards to any news. I would like to know this Italian's ethnicity and whether he had any pre-existing lung or blood pressure issues

Canada's problem is not that it is a stoner little brother. Lots of people who get stoned are wicked smart. Canada is more of an OTT SJW. It is so fucking smug that it can't admit that race or gender exists even when it is obvious and threatening to tear the country apart

WHO confirms that the reduction in confirmed cases is because China went back to only reporting lab confirmed ones. ( archive )
They're so hard up China's ass that their only suggestion for why this is happening is China magically being able to test all suspected cases again. I call bullshit.

if it's happening in Milan it's gonna spread like wildfire simply because of how rural nothern italy is. As beautiful it is in order to get to a good hospital your looking at least 3 hours drive through the country side. Unlike Venice or Rome it's not really touristy in the sense you get all modern conviences. on the bright side it may be self contained.
if you live in Europe best bet is either Romania because of how isolated it is or Sardinia because it's freaking island. I think I may after this take the rest of my pto and explore eastern Europe.
Basically if you want to flee find a very isolated spot and go there and don't tell anyone in person where you going.
oh and pro tip: don't fucking go to any desserts if you have no fucking clue on how to survive in it. Same for Canada in fact if this gets major pandemic level every idiot and their mother will try to flee for the great wilderness of Canada. you'll only last a few months come winter if your not a cannibal you'll be food for others. Basically Canada is the absolute russia when it comes to survival unless you know what your doing have the actual resources to sustain yourself until your established go for far easier means.

It's winter in Canada right now if it suddenly started growing it'd be bleeding into spring/summer. Canada's weather is also persistantly drunk. Newfoundland has been hammered by snow but in Vancover you barely get any. The bulk populations are almost all near the American border tho so if it goes south here America is also fucked.

The bigger issue is not really weather- a lot of people in cities where the bulk population is just don't have outdoors experience at all, let alone in winter. Lots of rural places, like the atlantic provinces, would likely be better at running for the hills as it's pretty common for most people to already have cabins in the woods and spend a lot of time outdoors.

Yep, which incidentally is also the most recurring issue to cause civil insurrections no matter what the governing system is or the cultural environment that it is present in. All human societies are held together by commonly accepted customs and rules. Nothing actually holds them together by force when you get right down to it. The great quote from Chernobyl is "Our power is derived from the perception of our power". "legitimacy" is a good way to think about this. If people feel the rules are being broken, or no longer apply to them, then the system breaks down. It could be a monarchy, a dictatorship or a democracy. Does not matter.

I'm stuck in a hotel room in Singapore and I'm bored. *head desk*
Singapore? Have you been to Orchard Towers yet? If not, what do you have to say in your defence? You know what's worse? Going to Singapore and not visiting the Orchard and definitely not a small chance of getting the Kung Flu sniffles.
Orchard towers - 4 floors of whores, basically a whore mall

Iran tries to catch up:

It arrived in Lebanon:

Carnival will be celebrated in many parts of the world this weekend, I wonder how it will affect to the spread of the virus. The Carnival from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil receives almost two million tourists from all over the world.

Venice will also receive a large number of visitors these days.

Orchard Towers is a den of prostitution, blackmail and sodomy. It's run by 5 pimps who can and will disappear anyone at any time. The moment you step through the doors, you are under surveillance by criminal gangs and foreign powers looking to exploit you for all you are worth. Lots of visitors end up in debt and are forced into a new career as a drug mule.

The last place you want to visit in Singapore is Orchid Towers. It's the honeypot of honeypots.

Idk, I had a contract in Singapore for couple of months and visited it couple of times w/o any problems. I guess the same rules apply as in any foreign country - don't look like a victim and don't stick your credit cards in dirty holes. It was some years ago, though, maybe it has changed for the worse.

It's basically always been a hair away from warring states. The same is true of Russia. Do you know what keep both together? The central government's grip over the military. What keeps their control over the military? They maintain a monopoly over where the paychecks, food, and equipment comes from - i.e. the central government.

And it's a similar story in the USA. Why isn't the average soldier more loyal to their state/general/ideology than to the Federal government? Because states, generals, and ideology doesn't pay their checks, put their kids in school, get them healthcare, or ensure they have tools to fight to begin with. It's "how to avoid civil war" 101. It's only when you start decentralizing logistics that you are actually in danger of breaking up. Note that none of this applies to rebel groups that might want to fuck your ass, like the Muslims in western China.

It's going to take serious food shortages and massive inflation for the Chinese miltiary to decide their loyalty is better placed elsewhere. Xi will probably be couped (which is NOT the same as a civil war) by his former followers in the CCP before that happens.

right now I am thinking this will lead to a change in Chinese Leadership, but not a full blown fall of the CCP. They will quietly retire Xi the way the Soviet’s quietly removed Andropov and Chernenko. Which way it goes is anybodies guess. Pragmatists May force a return to term limits, greater restrictions and checks on the Premier and stopgaps against personality cults that prevent transparency. But yeah that’s way optimistic. It could just as easily result in the Military in charge. Assuming they remain functional. Has the Chinese Navy been heard from? How many plague ships do they have at sea? Xi’s greatest failing was not sounding the alarm until after Chinese New Year. Until after everyone traveled and gathered.

This is a taboo topic among servicemen that has become more common over the past four years or so. I've had that talk with a few airmen while breaking down how and why civil war could start more easily in the US, more easily than people seem to want to think. The general consensus among decent servicemen as far as I know is that most enlistees would give their CoC acute lead poisoning before they'd commit actual treason against our people, even at the risk of being put on trial for 'legal treason'. We also know that a lot of officers and enlisted wouldn't hesitate to take the coward's way out so that no matter what happens in the end, if they're still standing, they can put their palms out and say "I was just following orders". The cowards would also not be so willing to side against who they perceive to hold all of the weapons and supplies, or just pick whichever team has the most players at the time. A modern American Civil War started over governmental tyranny would be a special kind of mess the likes of which no person has ever seen.

It’s a pointless topic, because ultimately it depends on the nature of the circumstances. Would the troops obey authoritarian illegal orders from a President acting against the constitution? That’s the TDS dream. But what happens if Gavin Newsome declares #CalExit? The troops know what the historical precedent is there. There might not be much pushback when ordered to secure Los Angeles and San Fran and wipe Berkely off the map. Sherman’s March to the Sea is still taught as a “How to do it” lesson, not a war crime.

Well, knowing all the nice videos coming out of China on how they are "containing" this shit, how they are treating their own citizens, this statement isn't scary at all :

"Coronavirus latest: China vows to ‘liquidate’ virus by end of March"

"Chinese ambassador to Russia says Covid-19, which has claimed more than 2,200 lives, will be eradicated in a month’s time as his country claims it will ‘win a complete victory’"

Final Solution vibes, anyone ?

They just sent 40 portable incinerators into WuHan. I think we all know what is coming. And it will be as usual for China, pointless ineffective theater as the disease is well outside containment.

Do Chinese audiences get panicky whenever they hear their government proclaiming such absurd absolutes as “we will liquidate this disease by March!”? I mean even unsophisticated audiences are generally not stupid. The only thing that messaging will do is spur tons of Chinese people to run as far and as fast as they can. Before the Liquidation begins.
