Isn't that because their core idea is having elected priests and decentralization in general, schismatic by design?

That's the congregationalists.

Presbyterians are more like getting trapped in legal hell forever because it's centralized but also not. When PCUSA started pissing congregants off with the gay marriage thing then this (PDF link) was the response. You can't vote to leave, the denomination owns your church, you can separate gracefully into the EPC or something if you want.

But remember that we own your church and the land underneath it before you make any hasty decisions.

Anyway this has nothing to do with coronaviruses, but whatever someone will find it interesting.

so quick question if China goes to civil war? how would it affect the US?
Our military could be forced to go and fight for one side or the other (probably Xi if it's in the corporate interest, since America is an oligarchy), we'll have an interruption in our flow of cheap consoomer bullshit, the US elections could revolve around who wants to do what about China...

A Civil War in China would look something like this:

- Breakdown of social order, fights in the streets, lots of traffic on WeChat about how those guys in the other city are responsible for X social ills, but coming from everywhere

- The moment it impacts the economy, huge worldwide PR campaign condemning whoever they decide to scapegoat

- A government crackdown we never hear about, followed by some grand gestures for human rights from dissident groups, lots of stories about disappearances

- A disaster, described as an accident, where public infrastructure is damaged. Most likely a high-speed train goes off the rails killing a lot of people

- A government crackdown that we do see, CCP projections of power start to break down as people openly criticize the government

- Western economists warn of global recession as Chinese exports take longer to deliver despite infrastructure improvements

- CCP hires ex-soldiers to bolster ranks of secret police force, people with divided loyalties who have been arguing over pensions, some chaos ensues

- Assassinations, CCP officials targeted in public, kidnappings of their children, denouncements of public figures on social media, lots of people with masks doing ISIS-level shit on video

- One or more provinces declares autonomy, CCP negotiates to settle things down while assassinating leaders and beating people in the streets similar to Hong Kong

- Infrastructure gets really fucked up. Ships sinking in deep water ports, airplanes going down, talk of Western corporations pulling people out. Rebels focus on supply chains and anything visible to the West

- Chinese economic collapse, unable to secure transportation lines, one or more ports occupied, food and environmental insecurity

- Western economic collapse, UK and USA hardest hit, China dumps t-bills on the market to make USD toxic, worldwide groan as people move to digital currency

- CCP unrest, party leadership changes, warhawk takes over and starts killing people, declares the rest of the world is racist, starts public hangings, Cult of Mao is on the streets again

- Rebels mysteriously come across weapons caches and fight CCP, one or more cities falls, hard power on the march, stories about 100k+ dying in a day (mostly civilians)

- Korea / India / Russia secure borders, African nations send peacekeeping forces

- UNHRC takes strong pro-CCP stance, calls for intervention, vetoed by US. Non-profits go off the rails, Amnesty International goes after US and EU leaders for inaction, massive state-wide protests shut down Western Economies.

- Within 2 years, collapse of digital currencies due to massive fraud, turns out Chinese rebels were manipulating currency to convert into hard assets

- One or more disasters in China where reactors / refineries / energy plants detonate due to fighting

- 75% population reduction in China due to death and resettlement in Western Nations, entrenched forces refuse to back down, 10 year cycle to rebuild domestic economies in US and Europe, African Economic Union becomes world leader, Japan-based Pacific Economic Union becomes world leader, Russia projects power into the Middle East to form new coalition block, NATO is constantly entangled in small-scale skirmishes with ethnic-separatist groups funded by other blocks

- About a 50% of a nuclear exchange during this period not involving China, but involving one or more blocks. Not WWIII, does not involve the West but may involve weapons sold by the West

- At the end of the cycle, Mao-like figure emerges, China goes into rebuilding mode. About half the country is sparsely populated, de-industrialized, and occupied by other countries. Western governments put forth the idea of reforming China into 10 or so autonomous states, fierce resistance from everyone else but it happens eventually.

Carnival will be celebrated in many parts of the world this weekend, I wonder how it will affect to the spread of the virus. The Carnival from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil receives almost two million tourists from all over the world.

Venice will also receive a large number of visitors these days.
So, will Corona come to Brazil?

Are we looking at a Three Kingdoms scenario or a post-Qing/Pre-Japanese Invasion warlord scenario?

Are we looking at a Three Kingdoms scenario or a post-Qing/Pre-Japanese Invasion warlord scenario?
No clue. I don't believe the overall structure would resemble anything we've ever seen before.

This is the Fall of the CCP Scenario. All we really know is a change from Xi would result in a warhawk-type leader. The CCP is not tied to economic expansion, the current regime is a bold experiment that lacks broad buy-in from senior leadership. While they've tried to cull the most prominent voices calling for a return to Mao-era communism, they still outnumber capitalists by a large margin. There are also a lot of nationalists who are less-defined by economic principles so much as a vision of Chinese supremacy in all things.

There's a lot of talk about the 2035 plan with relation to China, which is when they expect to put a New World Order in place where international flows of capital all go through Beijing. That plan relies on political stability and drastic breaks from traditional cultural behavior throughout the region. The scenario I outlined assumes people stick to how the Han have always behaved in response to political and economic instability.

All we can really do is wait and see. China is not the CCP, despite the rhetoric. The moment the average Chinese person can see something else, all bets are off.

So Coronavirus will kill you if you are an Chinaman or a Boomer? Don't see anything wrong here.

Jokes aside all the doomer/fear mongering I've seen is hilarious. Thinking about and preparing for the worst is fine. But damn some people take their paranoia to the max.

Rule 16 always applies. No known exceptions, sorry love.

Rule 16 was true until cell phones sadly,
No that's wrong there are no females on the internet that's what Rule 16 says didn't you read it?

This is probably a dumb question that’s been answered, but I had a question for other med/bio kiwis because my knowledge of virology is limited compared to general micro and histology. Did they ever figure out during the old SARS tests if reinfection after recovery in animal trials being more fatal than the initial exposure was definitive or if it was a flaw in their methodology? Was that a cytokine storm or were there other things in play? Regardless, we’ll be seeing more bodies for a while no matter what.

Tried to search but found nothing solid. Seems not only did china stop funding all research on SARS as soon as it was over but they really did just stop most major trials so not that much is known for sure.

Either way I'd put my money on reinfection lethality being higher because SARS could leave a lot of nasty long term symptoms like pulmonary fibrosis and well anyone who has that getting any respiratory infection, repeat or not, is real bad news. Cytokine storms were confirmed by some papers so it might be a factor. But they seem to happen on non-reinfected too so I have no fucking clue.

Dunno if this is real, but if it is, this is literally a 4chan gayop:

how do you unfurl urls

And today on questions that'll drive you to insanity: "Is this a 4chan Gayop or a 4chan Gay Op?" Thank you internet. You always find new ways to break me.

Wuhan to get 19 new makeshift hospitals
Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak, plans to build another 19 makeshift hospitals to receive more infected patients, local authorities said Friday.

Upon their completion, all the makeshift hospitals in Wuhan are expected to offer 30,000 beds on Feb. 25, said Hu Yabo, deputy mayor of Wuhan at a press briefing on epidemic prevention and control.

To date, Wuhan has converted 13 existing venues into temporary hospitals, with a total of 13,348 beds, and about 9,313 beds have been put into use to treat patients with mild symptoms, said Hu.

To improve their medical treatment capability, every makeshift hospital will be supplied with CT scanners and other medical equipment including ECG monitors, Hu added.

About 72 medical teams from other regions of China have been dispatched to these temporary hospitals to aid local colleagues to treat patients and contain the virus spread.

The total number of confirmed cases in hard-hit Wuhan has reached 45,346 as of Thursday.

But I thought the number of new patients was going down every day? Don't tell me they weren't on the up and up.

More
Rome (AFP) - Authorities in northern Italy on Friday ordered the closure of schools, bars and other public spaces in 10 towns following a flurry of new coronavirus cases.
Five doctors and 10 other people tested positive for the virus in Lombardy, after apparently frequenting the same bar and group of friends, with two other cases in Veneto, authorities said at a press conference.
Over 50,000 people have been asked to stay at home in the areas concerned, while all public activities such as carnival celebrations, church masses and sporting events have been banned for up to a week.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said "everything is under control", and stressed the government was maintaining "an extremely high level of precaution".
Streets in the towns were deserted, with only a few people seen abroad, and signs showing public spaces closed.
In Casalpusterlengo, a large electronic message board outside the town hall read "Coronavirus: the population is invited to remain indoors as a precaution".
The first town to be shuttered was Codogno, with a population of 15,000, where three people tested positive for the virus, including a 38-year old man and his wife, who is eight months pregnant.
Three others there have tested positive to a first novel coronavirus test and are awaiting their definitive results.
Codogno mayor Francesco Passerini said the news of the cases "has sparked alarm" throughout the town south of Milan.
The 38-year old, who works for Unilever in Lodi, was in a serious condition in intensive care.
- 'Extremely worried' -
He had dined earlier this month with a man who had visited China in January, and had later shown flu-like symptoms, but has since tested negative for the virus, Italian media said.
A football friend of his, the son of a bar owner in Codogno, has also tested positive, along with three regulars at the bar.
The three, all of whom are retired, live in the small town of Castiglione d'Adda. The mayor there said the locals were "extremely worried" about the spread of the deadly disease.
Some 250 people were being placed in isolation after coming into contact with the new cases, according to the Lombardy region, and 60 worker at Unilever have been tested for the virus.
Trenord regional railway said its trains would no longer be stopping in three stations in the affected area.
The head of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, said a 78 and 67-year old, from the village of Vo' Euganeo, at the foot of the Euganean Hills near Padua, had tested positive.
He said "a sanitary ring" would be created around the village, where public spaces would be closed.
Three other cases of the virus in Italy are being treated in isolation at the Spallanzani Institute in Rome.
The outbreak of the so-called COVID-19 illness which began in December has killed more than 2,200 people and infected more than 75,500 in China.
Over 1,150 people have been infected and eight have died across 26 other countries, according to the World Health Organization.

Canada's weather is also persistantly drunk. Newfoundland has been hammered by snow but in Vancover you barely get any.

That's not Canada's Weather being Drunk. That's just the fact that there are thousands of miles between Vancover and Newfoundland. Nobody makes a big deal if Moscow has different weather from London.
What would make it "drunk" is if one area had radical shifts in climate over a period of a few weeks, but even then that would be one area, not Canada as a whole.
