Didio has left the building. Can't wait to see who they bring in to replace him

DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan DiDio Exits Company
By JK SCHMIDT - February 21, 2020 05:21 pm EST

It's the end of an era at DC Comics as longtime co-publisher Dan DiDio is no longer with the superhero publishing company. DiDio was best known for overseeing multiple initiatives that pushed massive awareness of the brand, with storylines and titles including Infinite Crisis, 52, the New 52 relaunch, and DC Rebirth, as well as other stories like Before Watchmen and Doomsday Clock. DiDio has served as co-publisher alongside superstar artist Jim Lee for the last decade, being anointed as one of the figureheads of DC Comics by then-president Diane Nelson.

ComicBook.com has learned that DiDio is no longer with the company, with DC Comics confirming the news. They have not yet issued a statement publicly, though it's likely coming soon.

The publisher has had multiple false starts and fan-derided initiatives in recent years including the shuttering of the Vertigo publishing imprint, instead bringing the branding in line with the new DC Black Label. He recently stressed that there had been problems with the rollout for those comics, though he vowed to improve the publishing schedule.

"Extraordinarily successful for us," DiDio revealed in a Q&A with retailers [via Newsarama]. "The response and reaction has been better than we could imagine. Our plan is to make sure we're consistent in the material we're putting out, and that it's strong, and that it comes out on time. We will not be soliciting anything until we are clear that this material will come out as scheduled."

He added, "We like the maturity, the sensibility, the quality. The talent is going to be driving this line. We will not overproduce here, because we want to make sure this is a long-term plan."

While we wait to hear about DC's plans for a succession, whether Jim Lee will be joined by someone or if he'll take over the publishing duties solo, it's important to recognize that just one year ago, Warner Bros. brass. made the decision to lay off 240 employees in the comics division.

"Today has been a challenging day. We have made organizational changes across DC that we believe will help to strengthen and evolve the division for future success. With these changes come difficult decisions which we take very seriously," said Pam Lifford, president of Warner Bros. Global Brands and Experiences, at the time of the layoffs. "We recognize and appreciate that all of our employees have made considerable contributions to our business and that it is difficult to lose colleagues, many of whom have been here for a long time and have made an important impact on DC. We thank them for their hard work and dedication to DC. As always, we are committed to taking care of our employees and will be as thoughtful as possible with those who are impacted by these changes.

Good riddance.

You can skip over Frog trying to act like this wasn't deserved. This is why everyone loves Richard. "He put her back on Batgirl, because she called him a sexist." Damn straight.

Given the number of times she included the word "anime" in that totally-not-an-angry-tantrum I suspect there may be more bitterness than we think at play here in this post birds of prey flop episode she is having.
She was dipping her flippers into weeb wars a while back and 'you go girl'-ing Jamie Marchi, so might be related to that. Anyway what a big revelation; guys don't want to date unkempt, ugly heffers that reek of cheap booze and cat piss, who think that dying their hair is an interesting personality, and don't show any interest in their hobbies. I'm sure she's also at the weekly wine aunt sizzler clucking about how her prince charming must be rich, tall, dark, and handsome.
You know what's funny, Cecil actually mentioned the slapfights between Edwin, Mike, and Doug being a problem for new viewers when they were speculating about what the Quarterpounder meant about stagnating channels. If he had actually gone on stream and talked about that instead of sperging about nothing DM's for like an hour, people probably would have agreed with him.
I made a post in the containment thread the other day about EVS's stagnating channel and potential buyers, and was going to add a line about how at least he had other larger channels that were friendly/sympathetic and could help push his work. Who knows how many copies QP helped sell in the past... lets say 500 - that's $15k walking out the door.

...Has he talked about any CG books? He might have made a video when Waid fucked with Meyer, but aside from that, I don't remember him pushing any books. Well that and EWJ for a bit

¼#R is just some "anti-SJW" outrage farmer who hopped on the CG bandwagon when it was trending and hopped off when the algorithm peaked. Only his large sub counting when talking shit and DMing EVS a few times makes him relevant (to EVS) in any way.

In this article, the Didio citations are in perfect alignment with the true values of comicsgate when he states things like "we were often late with schedules and releases, lel, we will try to do better, somehow, in the future"

"We will try to do better quality books now, that takes more time, huh" - but has delivered jackshit actually. And vertigo has gone downhill since he was there, hahaha !

Yeah, they can have him. He's clearly CG material. :story:

Newfag here, I used to lurk and just made an account so I could ask some questions. I quit following CG over a year ago, around the time of the JDA, Capn Cumming, Vox Day drama saga. I recently saw that QP and EVS were no longer internet friends which led me down a rabbit hole realising that Ethan is no longer friends with Edwin Boyette, Mike Miller and Doug TenNapel? I was wondering if anyone could explain why without me having to trawl through over 300 pages, as I haven't kept up with this thread in some time.

If anyone could help summarize what happened over the past year I'd appreciate it.

It all stems from 3 things:
1) Doug TenNapel going to a comic con and had people that EVS said tried to destroy his career on with stage with with Doug (plus, I heard that Doug didn't list Ethan among those that helped with Bigfoot Bill but I can't substantiate it). Ethan got butthurt.
2) Gay Pride Month:
- Miller tweeted something to the effect of "pride is a sin" and EVS admonished him. Doug got butthurt. Then Ethan got butthurt. Feud ensues.
3) The Indiecron debacle between Edwin Boyette and War Campaign.

Thanks for the answer, just some hoping for some follow up.
1) I have Bigfoot Bill, I'm pretty sure Doug thanked Ethan on one of the first pages. If Doug was on a panel with people who tried to destroy Ethan, who were these people? And was Doug responsible for them being there, or was the convention responsible?
2) Pride is a sin. I mean thats not really a controversial statement and is pretty well known even among people who aren't religious. Surely Ethan doesn't have to police other peoples thoughts, opinions and speech? Although I suppose he did do that with Nerkishs discord server, seems kinda stupid that he feels others opinions would impact him instead of just impacting the person expressing them.
3) I don't know anything about this, if you (or anyone else) could extrapolate again I'd be grateful.

I kinda forget CG existed until i had a bunch of books turn up. The only person I still follow is Ya Boy Zack, since he avoided all the autism like a true pro. I'm glad he got the Expendables license, he seems like he genuinely enjoys what his doing and I'm glad his moving up in the world.

Going to be honest and say i didn't check, it looks like he's only done a few drama videos when big events occurred. I'll still assert it's a potential loss of eyes on EVS's next project for little reason. Hamburger helper will still likely cover any big CG topic as long as it brings the shekels.

4) Doug left CG. Doug clarified that in order to get the rights to publish EWJ comic books he couldn't associate with [buzzword] groups (i think it was "hate", but you'd have to check his words). Doug's been chasing those IP rights for ~20y and the CG group can (and often was by shitty news media) classified as a [buzzword] group. Of course this (and points 1-3) lead to constant bitching, gay ops, and drama streams from fat boomers, leading into constant purity spirals.

People found IBS interesting for a while since you'd have two polar opposites come together and "debate" or have gay-op exposure and ridicule. It quickly ran out of interesting subjects and devolved into creating lame drama for views, much like current CG.

WC are a bunch of speds that will piss, moan and attack anybody who goes against their gay roleplaying leader ceaser (EVS) and their current talking point. I'd suggest using the search function to check what was recorded at the time, although a lot was ignored simply because it's all so tiresome.jpg

Thanks for clarifying, I can understand why Doug would do that in all honesty. I remember watching streams with him talking about how EWJ was taken away from him and it seemed heartbreaking. Creating a successful IP which you don't own creative control over anymore and watch it be bastardized (see Star Wars) or discarded entirely must feel terrible on a level most couldn't understand. Some of the happiest moments of my youth were talking about the EWJ cartoon at school and playing the game with my best friend in my youth. Whatever has happened, I can't deny that Doug has delivered two quality products from IGG. EWJ and BFB are easily two of the best projects I've received so far, especially considering the buyers remorse I have for most of the other projects.

I definitely agree with your assessment on Warcampaign. I knew those tardlets were trouble ever since Ro went on Ethans stream and lied about being in cahoots with Renfamous trying to fuck with JDA. The cult like behavior of WC is off-putting to anyone over the age of 12, its just downright embarrassingly cringy tbh.

I'm honestly surprised the whole crowdfunding model is still going. I would have though that EVS, Doug, Mike Miller and Malin would have consolidated forces and tried to make a label by now. Paying $25 USD and international shipping for a single comic book might work for a time but its not a long term business strategy that will breed success. Their first priority should have been combining forces so they could use their numbers together to bully printers into better deals, which in turn would have passed off savings to the backers. Mitch Breitweiser seems to understand this with his Walmart deal, but then again I'm still waiting for my copy of Red Rooster.

While it seems to be a slow downturn, the crowdfunding model is definitely unsustainable. So many “CG” books are still floating out there unfulfilled with very few updates. I don’t see many of these people getting repeat customers. There’s just no way to justify spending another 25$ on something you’re not going to see for a year or more. Especially when a lot of these books are like 48 pages at most.

Zack and Malin are the only ones really sticking to deadline, especially Zack who’s now putting out a book every few months. Mike obviously learned nothing from Lonestar 1 with how long it’s been taking him to fulfill his current campaign, and only time will tell if EVS has learned anything from the delays he faced with Cyberfrog.

I'd like independent verification of Ethan's claim that DC sold off most of its stake in The Joker.

I'm not going to throw Didio under the bus because I don't know the power dynamics of the company, but there were definitely a lot of executive decisions made over the last couple of years that makes one pause and wonder if the person in charge is an idiot (ex. hiring Bendis, hiring G. Willa Wilson and Kelly Sue DeConnick, letting an idiot destroy Vertigo, etc.). The only really smart thing DC does (besides retaining high quality artists) is pumping out its core books biweekly instead of flooding the shelves with garbage mini-series like Marvel.

Looks like we're getting that video sooner than you thought. Quarterpounder isn't done going in yet. Can't wait for EVS to livestream his rebuttal, lets keep that cycle going. Kinda funny he didn't feel a need to make this until he felt attacked.

Just in case, be sure to watch it just before you go to sleep especially if you're someone like me that sometimes have trouble falling asleep.

1) It was SDCC:

2) Ethan admonished Miller because, according to him, he is aware of Miller's poor financial state and he thought that making statements like this would ultimately limit his potential customer base. Doug, who says he has a history of radical alphabet soup people trying to ruin his career, tried to support Miller. Ethan responds with a "thunk-provoking" tweet about "Is Earthworm Jim gay?" This incident escalated to where we are today.

3) Edwin Boyette became the person running Indiecron and started featuring non-CG books. WarCampaign, forever the zealots, felt that the website should ONLY feature CG content (they later planned to do this themselves). Boyette did not placate them. So, War Campaign did what they always do to those they find as enemies. Boyette got mad. REALLY mad. He went full tilt. As a result, CG creators began demanding their projects be removed from Indiecron.

If he's talking about the movie, it's known that WB split the budget between co-financiers and have to split the profits too.

Looking like EVS will launch #2 soon, so we'll know if his buyers increase and if the constant infighting "marketing" has worked.

Ethan just sucks at keeping allies and his autistic fag campaign keeps chasing people out. He just wants a bunch of yes men🤷🏻‍♂️
