Furry Fandom and Drama General

Andrew certainly is exceptional, he's currently a bit drunk on popularity by spoiting vitriol against "Popufurs", when ironically, he is one himself by definition.

The first two tweets are reasonable. The last one is just lame posturing.

The people that the fandom props up are garbage more often than not. They just have the time and money to craft and curate public personas.

its almost as if the fandom is full of mentally ill/low self esteem autistic who don't know any better besides COOMing *surprised pikachu face*.

A bit of a broad brush.

It just feels like the most visible people (I refuse to use the word clout) have very curated public personas meant specifically to appeal to others, rather than being about self expression. They also tend to have a lot of money to spread around, and with that, probably a lot less real problems.

There are some that speak up on social issues from real experience, but there's a fucking lot of posturing too.

I'm not saying shit about autism because it's not my place to. Abuse of fetishism seems more relevant.

Its worth repeating that more balanced furries don't seem to need to broadcast it, it's just a hobby even if they're into kink. They have balance. Lifestylers are almost universally suspect and untrustworthy.

I just wish people would address the content issues. Skirting the line of zoophilia and pedophilia for people who won't ever cross the line is like a big flashing "welcome" sign to people who *will* cross the line. Furs don't want to address that. It's too threatening to what they service so much validation from.

It's consistently disappointing.

Personally I'm wondering right now if there's a way for myself to still enjoy furry content without having to engage the fandom at large. I used to enjoy cons and some events, but really REALLY bad experiences and abusive people have just tainted it for me and it's hard to see any of the actual good.

Cliff notes version: hobbies are good, fandoms are bad.

most furries who don't have "clout" (god I hate this fucking word so much) don't want to dress this issues or else they will shouted down for "dissidence" and not be "valid" anymore. the twitter furries are specifically known for this hive mentality mindset which is plaguing a large portion of the community. also the art and other aspects are so heavily tied to the the fandom its impossible to avoid. plus neoliberalism mindsets about "your perfect" puts complacency to change within many

This might just be the best post about the furrry fandom I've ever seen, anywhere on the internet.

Aw, thank you.

I've been around -awhile- and I've seen and experienced my fair share. There have been really great groups that I've been a part of, and there has been...abuse.

It's just so disappointing.

I want to give examples but I also don't want to tip my hand.

Furries can be alright, but the fandom at large, itself is horridly toxic.

And when they do reply it adds fuel the fire cycle that surrounds the fandom that I keep seeing from certain groups and individuals.

A person speaks up about something > people argue over it > person loses rep(and gets talked about on here) > others do the "ugh drama" > a few of those others then get into drama themselves > aaanddd repeat...

Not everyone will see the same as me of course.

The way I see it, anyone who unironically proclaim themselves "Furry" with a big F for fandom is either very naive, or very much wrong in the head. Anyone who spent even a smidgen amount of time in the fandom will quickly pick up that there are a lot of things wrong, and it's all usually swept under the carpet. Not even very cleanly, in most cases. You'd notice that the functional furries are those that keep their heads down low, and minimise their involvement with the fandom. Usually by the virtue of the fact that they also work and actually have to attend to adult life like every other normal, functioning human being does.

It's not difficult to do, it's about being smart regarding it. If you're a successful person with a good paying job and a life you already know the way to behave and function. It's about playing the game correctly, choosing your friends and not sperging on social media. You can call yourself a furry, have a fursuit, go to conventions, you can even have your weird fetishes or make money from it. It's all about taking responsibility for your words and actions and knowing what to avoid and who to trust.

This is why I've seen many furry artists who can play the game right eventually schism from the fandom somehow. I've seen them try to reach out to the more mainstream indie comic scene demographic to get noticed on their artistic merits instead of staying with a fandom that tears down anyone who gets successful artistic wise. They'll just say "yeah I like drawing talking animals but I hate furries" when pressed on the topic. Hell the person who started Burned Furs now runs a comic publisher that also has a Wiki page for it which I think speaks loudly about attempts to reform the fandom. Why try to fight a losing battle when you can leave the fandom and get bigger than you ever could chained to it?

Then there's all the drama in the fandom, scandals like the zoosadism scandal, and the fact furries are just harder to work with than it appears from the outside. Talk to any furry artist, they'll have as many stories as a car salesman will have regarding crazy customers.

It says something about the sheer degeneracy of furries that someone like this (and Blumrich for that matter) gets driven out of it because they'd rather do that than clean up their fucking act.

I've met furries online who dissociate themselves heavily with the fandom either due to their experience or quickly picking up the horrid toxicity of the fandom. also I would like to mention how many of these furries create these "therapy groups" or try to be as inclusive as possible. like instead of going to a actual doctor instead they hang around these "groups" in order to get help which leads to abuse and unhappiness in the end. the main reason I mention this is that this trend has become quite popular within the furry fandom and remember some 16 year old furry try to justify this

Their mission

Normal Cool Furries Who Are Not Weird
(NCFWANW)

Introduction

Normal Cool Furries Who Are Not Weird (NCFWANW) is a social club and cultural think tank. This group was originally founded under the purpose of establishing a furry convention for normal, good, and cool furries; excluding all furries who were freaks or evil.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Be a furry
  2. Do NOT be horny
  3. Do NOT have an evil mind
  4. Be nice
Screening Process:
  1. Interview with senior members to determine mental vibes
  2. Social media review
  3. Independent verification by non-furry third party
In-Depth Explanation of Qualifications

BE A FURRY - You have to be a furry and have at least 1 fursona
Do NOT be horny - This means you cannot be cum brained. If you are cum brained you are banned, no Gross minds allowed.
Do NOT have an evil mind - You must not have an evil mind. What exactly evil means is determined by our senior council.
Be nice - You have to be nice to us that’s it. If you’re ever evil or mean to us you’re out.

Screening Process Explained

NCFWANW will do intense screenings of every applicant. This screening process is made up of multiple steps and will be the ultimate test of your dedication to the cause of making furries cool and not weird.

The first step in screening will be a personal interview with one or more of our senior members, these members are experts at sensing the mental vibrations given off by people and will be able to determine your true intentions.

The second screening process is an investigation into your social media. We will go through all of your social media to see what you are posting and liking to make sure you are not horny or weird.

The final step of the screening will be an interview with a non-furry third party. This is to insure that the verification process is free from any clouded judgement.

If you fail any step of the screening you will be banned from applying to the organization for 6 months. We will give you a detailed report as to why you failed.

NOTE: There is an “M Clause” for members which allows them to be TASTEFULLY horny. You can be horny but in a non-gross and respectful way.

It's even more exceptional than Stixil is.

"Let's make our own furcon where staff are paid, not treated like shit, pedos are banned, POC and LGBT+ people are respected, badges are sent by mail ahead of time, and poodling is encouraged"

Meanwhile the dude is a spastic who was thrown out of a furcon for being too degenerate and exposing the public and, presumably, children to his disgusting fetishes.

I must have missed this. I knew he was one of those kneesox wearing girlybois that seem to think "submissive bottom" is a whole personality, and I have my suspicious he was fired from his teaching job, but what's the background on acting a fool at cons?

I feel bad for the neighbors dog when Stixil gets a hold of him.

That also leads to underage furries getting groomed. Most furries are pedophiles.

>Be a furry
>Don't be a freak

So... don't be a furry? That sounds like the only way they're gonna get members.
