I don't like Trump as a person. I think he takes the wrong moments to lash out a lot of the times. As a president? Different story. I don't think hating a person and liking their presidency is contradictory.

Back on point. Right now I have a panicky boomer relative that is sending mass Facebook messages featuring people thinking Lysol knew about this brand new coronavirus in advance! Couldn't tell them that we've known about the virus class for decades.

Indeed, I've had to explain to quite a number of people that corona virus is a sub-type or more like a class of virus, and the current virus which is causing such havoc is actually a new strain of this virus. It being new, we have no 'built-in' immunity for it and we're more likely to get infected with it than other viruses of other types or even the same sub-type.

It leads me to wonder, did anyone else actually pay any fucking attention in science class/health class/biology or were those entire classes merely for my benefit? It seems to me that if a majority of the populace doesn't understand jack-shit about basic concepts like this, our education system needs fixed.

Have you ever been to any of the transgender threads? Trust me, even if they're educated they believe if they wish hard enough they can undo fact based science with feels. People think vaccines are harmful. Traditional Chinese medicine. Etc. Etc.

There's no cure for being stupid, gullible, or lacking the ability to think critically and research and it's arguably a more contagious disease than wuflu could ever be.

I live in a mid-south state in the largest populated area, and it was business as usual today at our local big box store, with the exception of the hand sanitizer being out along with one brand of liquid soap, although there were two other brands available. Also have reliable info that at least one hospital is confident in their preparedness for the Wu Flu. Source wasn't downplaying the virus or overplaying their procedures; source is 100% trustworthy.

Me too. Fortunately, it hasn't hit people here yet how dangerous it is. So, they only thing I had to paid out the ass for was a mask. I've got my plan now. I have $150k ready to go just in case I have to take a leave from my job. If they fire me, so be it. I'll make my money work from me.

Any hope of containing it to Southeast Asia ended in Italy. Any chance of stopping it ended 2 months ago in China, when Xi and company fucked up in every way possible.

Right now, while extremely virulent, I don’t think it’s lethality will be anywhere close to what people are assuming. This isn’t Ebola. It’s a viral pneumonia. Bill Gates is probably correct that it is a once in a century type outbreak. So on par with Spanish Flu. But we aren’t the world of 1918. The Western World hasn’t just been shattered by the then worst war in human history. We have options besides Iron Lungs. And none of our population has been weakened by things like Polio. Yes people will die. It will be a worse flu season than normal. With higher fatalities than normal. But I suspect once everything is tallied actual deaths will be barely a fraction of 1% of infected. Not even China can hide that may bodies. Places that will be the worst hit will obviously be third world hell holes.
