Biden projected as winner in South Carolina, halting momentum of front-runner Sanders

GREENVILLE, S.C (Reuters) - Joe Biden was projected to win South Carolina’s Democratic primary on Saturday, reviving his faltering White House campaign and halting the surge of national front-runner Bernie Sanders, who appeared headed to a distant second-place finish.

Television networks and Edison Research, which conducted exit polls in South Carolina, projected Biden as the winner as soon as voting closed in the Southern state. Exit polls showed the former vice president beating Sanders among a wide range of demographic and ideological groups.

Biden needed a decisive win in South Carolina, where his popularity among black voters proved decisive in a state where more than half of the Democratic electorate is black, after poor showings in the first two nominating contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.

The win gives him new momentum as the Democratic race to find a challenger to Republican President Donald Trump now broadens quickly, with Super Tuesday primaries in 14 states that will award one-third of the available national delegates in a single day.

Sanders, a progressive U.S. senator from Vermont who had become the national front-runner, appeared likely to finish second in the state. Tom Steyer, a billionaire-turned-activist who spent heavily in South Carolina, appeared likely to finish third.

Nearly eight of 10 voters in South Carolina said they have a favorable view of Biden, compared with five of 10 who see rival Sanders favorably, exit polls showed. The polls also found about six of 10 of South Carolina voters said influential black congressman James Clyburn’s endorsement of Biden on Wednesday was a factor in their decision.

About half want a candidate who will return to Democratic President Barack Obama’s policies, a key argument of Biden, who was Obama’s vice president.

I predicted Biden would win, not a stretch by any means because a Southern Man don't need Bernie Sanders around anyhow..

His glory will be short lived, Sanders is running away with the prize. I predict Warren will be gone soon. She's waffling on taking PAC cash, not that there's much out there at this point. Corporate America basically wants her dead, and the Commie Cash is going to Papa Sanders..

Bloomberg is still hanging around like a canker sore..I just hope he burns through so much money and that it will be all for not that future Plutocrats will think twice, maybe even three times before running for president..I still think he's gonna try to buy the nomination at the convention. I'm thinking he'll have the DNC cook up some last minute bombshell to sink the USSR Sanders..

Her hardcore base is very small. Most of her female supporters are for her because Warren in fact has a vagina and not a sock puppet. Some of her dye in the wool fembots will probably protest loudly (cue the Wailing Vaginas chants), but in the end, they'll lightly hold their noses and vote for Dear Leader regardless due to the fact that they absolutely loathe Dr. Orange, cause he grabs pussies..

Also, there's a great chance that she'll get the VP nod over the rest of the herd..She's Socialist-Lite compared to Sanders, but they are cut from the same wicked, foul-smelling cloth...

The Democrats need to get the rest of the losers out now to stop him.
I was under the impression that the flooded field was a key ingredient to ratfucking Bernie without having to change the rules. Everybody gets some, nobody gets the majority, then fuck him at the convention.

I think this highlights one of Sanders big issues. He may win 50%+ of the registered Democrats but will struggle with those outside of the left/right spectrum and single-issue voters. Namely, the moderates.

There is a reason the Democrats have super-delegates. It's because they have a fringe that will sometimes get a candidate nominated who is unelectable in the general. Sanders, I think, is one of those guys. I just don't see the middle voting for him. His platform doesn't appeal to anyone that isn't on board with left-wing ideology. Half of 30% of the general electorate and fuck all else won't work.

That said, I hope he gets the nomination. A nice McGovern-style asskicking might convince some of the kooks that their revolution isn't happening anytime soon and they chill the fuck out.

She burned that bridge during the debates..Bernie has no time for moderates..It's his Revolution after all, and Ms. Salad Comb ain't on board The Bernie Bus to Hell..That's probably her (Fat Amy) only saving grace, she's not talking and acting like a Bernie Bot..

If Bernie doesn't choose Warren, then I think he could choose Captain Planet Billionaire Tom due to his cult-like love for Climate Change and his very deep pockets of dirty money, 25-1 odds though..

I’m amazed the Democrats have gone so far to the left that Klobuchar and Pelosi are considered moderates. Amy is pretty far to the left.

Losing South Carolina doesn’t mean shit for Sanders. He has the commie vote, the youth vote, and for whatever reason the latinx vote. These three factions are going to serve him well on Super Tuesday. Biden will go back to a distant place as Bloomberg and Biden are seemingly competing for the same voters.

Bernie only benefits from the latino vote in caucuses. When they can't get pressured, I think that they will split up more.
